Ok if your on a budget
Good location for everything. Very close to the beach. Roof and terrace views are stunning. Food- good quality but could do with more choice of meat dishes for dinner. Also more kid friendly dishes. Another food station would be good as there is only one small one for the whole dining room. Drinks were good here too. Rooms- well , we had 3 rooms. Studio and 2 double rooms on floors 8 and 9. They need refurbished, rusty parts in kitchens and bathrooms, sewage smells, holes in doors etc. Walls were very thin. Beds were quite comfortable. The studio did not have proper beds, just sofa beds. The studios are only cleaned and fresh towels given twice a week which is ridiculous. Double rooms on floor 8 seemed to get towels daily. Beds were not made for you either daily. Bed linen changed once in our 5 day stay. They kindly leave a brush, mop and bucket for you in the studios. Good job we only stayed 4 nights. Not what expect when you have an all inclusive holiday. I think you could encounter a lot of street noise and bar noise on lower floors of the main building. The lift was very slow and there is only one serving the main building of the hotel. Balcony views for some rooms are terrible. Facing into lots of other rooms, facing brick walls etc but this didn't bother me as I don't sit out on my balcony anyway. Cleaning was average in rooms but good in other parts of the hotel Entertainment- No entertainment in the hotel at all and the resort has not got much to do either really apart from eat and drink. There is a rather expensive mini golf park and Aqualand waterpark. You have to pay for sun loungers and lockers inside the park and food prices are ridiculous! €36 for 2 people . The waterpark rides etc were average, nothing special. Pools- we only visited the roof top pool which was quite small and cold but adequate for a quick dip. They have a bar up there too which serves some snacks. Food was nice enough here if you didn't fancy going down to the dining room for lunch. Staff we found to be friendly enough. Beach- nice clean beach which is swept every night . Water is calm and shallow ,so great for families with small children. We stayed 4 nights from 28th September. Temperature was around 27degrees. Weather was sunny with some clouds. Rained one afternoon for 90 mins. To sum it up we had a good enough holiday but wouldn't stay here again unless it was room only and I was on a tight budget. Not a huge amount of English people in this resort either. Mostly German with some other nationalities.
The best thing about my stay was...Location and roof top views

Great little Hotel
We have just been to Whala!beach for 4 nights. We were all inclusive. I think it could be quite noisy in the high season. It was good value for money. Staff were friendly. Not a very big pool. Close to the beach and all the shops, bars, restaurant

Great location, nice staff and good hotel
Traveller, United Kingdom
We stayed in the hotel for 5 nights and really enjoyed it. The staff that met us was very friendly and helpful. We had a really nice sea view room, good size and a lot of space on the balcony to relax. Swimming pool could be bigger, but what you need it for if you have sea by the side. Be prepared to wait for a lift, because it is small and there are a lot of people. If you are active and like walking on the stair, it will not be a problem for you. Sometimes it feels like the walls in the rooms are very thin and you can hear every noise in the other room, but if you are lucky with nice neighbours who came for holidays, not for running inside the rooms, then you won't have any problem. And if you ask someone from the staff to speak to the occupants in the other room, they will help you to resolve noise issue. The only downside that we encountered at the beginning is paid WiFi in the hotel!!! 10 euro per day is too much!!! But again, you are going on holiday, it is good to be without internet for a while. There are plenty cafe outside that offers WiFi. There is no need to sit in the room in such a nice place.
The best thing about my stay was...Close to the sea and great beach

RestlessNomads, East Anglia
Upon first impression the hotel looked nice and welcoming in the lobby/reception and bar area. We booked an apartment early January for the second week of Easter and requested a sea view. Upon arrival we were allocated an apartment on the third floor which involved having to climb two flights of stairs with our luggage before we could gain access to a lift. As we entered the room, drew back the lounge curtains to be met with a view of rubbish bags strewn over roof tops, back of neighbours courtyard/balconies. The main bedroom immediately faced other guests balconies which meant curtains would have to be drawn for privacy. The apartment was in a poor state of disrepair with live wires exposed from the ceiling fan, skirting boards ripped off the wall (ideal for catching small toes), broken furniture, unlevelled flooring which meant fridge door could not be opened, grubby kitchen area, broken extra fan etc. Upon speaking to reception staffs and asked to be moved, we were eventually allocated a different apartment. The second apartment appeared to be a slight improvement and not too dissimilar to the one pictured on the website, however much to our dismay we had to content with yet another set of issues such as a grubby kitchen area, mould in the wardrobe, leaking shower screen, old rusty fridge, several broken kitchen drawers and the constant lingering aroma emitting from the bathroom/wardrobe, a broken mirror held together with cellotape. Our equipped kitchen consisted of 4 of everything! Crockery, cutlery, 2 ring hotplate…..that’s it! For an apartment you would expect as a minimum a kettle, toaster or grill, maybe microwave, an ironing and ironing board or bottle opener at least! Television was fixed to the wall almost ceiling height and dangerous for the children as there were no remote control in the apartment and we had to hire onThis apartment had a view of a tiled wall reminiscent of the dirty protest by the IRA prisoners held in the H Block prisons! The apartment was positioned as such we had to stand and peer over to the right of the balcony to determine the current weather! At some point in the week we also experienced the total loss of water! The twice a week cleaning of the apartment consisted of bed making and additional loo rolls and towels - no cleaning. The general state of the corridors were disgusting. Due to inadequate lift facility we had to endure the constant stampede of people going up and down the stairs from around 6am till 1am in the morning most nights which meant very little sleep was to be had! The roof terrace albeit a lovely view overlooking the sea consisted of grubby and mouldy deck chairs, the pool half filled and small baby pool murky and dirty. We had one rainy day and prompted by the children we decided to explore the basement pool. I hasten to add we pretty much walked straight out. It was dark and dingy and smelt musty. The disappointing thing about the hotel it would seem, it has so much potential if only they would invest in proper upkeep/maintenance beyond the false representation of the lobby area. Lifts were inadequate for a hotel of this size and we consciously sought out escape routes in case of a fire. As such, was our level of concern. The positive has to be the location and ease of getting into Palma and other areas should you wish to venture out which we did as we wanted to spend as little time in the hotel as possible. There are several little shops nearby however if going self catering there is an Eroski supermarket 5 minutes walk from the hotel with a much wider selection at a reasonable price. *** This hotel does not warrant a 3 star rating! ***

Hostel more than Hotel
S Brooks, United Kingdom
Booked this hotel via alpharooms and looked online at hotel website at pictures, also did look at reviews on here but they were variable so decided to give this hotel the benefit of the doubt. On arrival our room was not ready so we left our luggage in the store and went for something to eat. We came back to the hotel around an hour later and was told our room was 1119 and we needed to go to the back of the hotel along a corridor and up in the lift to level 1. Along the corridors I could see peeling paint and smell of damp. Coming up to the room, I noticed the wood on the door was broken and upon entering the room I thought I had walked into a cave. The room smelt of damp and was dark. When opening the curtains the windows had been left open, I am sure to try to mask the smell of damp!! The sheets on the bed were dirty and had hairs, paint was peeling all around the apartment the maid had apparently cleaned but there was biscuit on the bathroom floor (see pics for more dirt). My children looked like they could cry and my husband said that he thought he was staying in a hostel rather than a hotel. I complained to the receptionist, who tried to say that they were fully booked but after being persistent we were moved to an alternative room. On first glance this room was better than the first, sheets were clean and it was brighter and didnt smell of damp but on closer inspection it didnt live up to anything, I can only describe it as a 1970's pontins room (see pics) The German couple in the next room liked to sit on their balcony until 2.30 drinking and playing music and at 4.00am this morning I was woke up but what I can only describe as a lady enjoying some nocturnal activities on a balcony with a man. Luckily the sounds didn't go on too long and the children weren't woken by this. The pool on the terrace was only half full and was being filled with one hose pipe. My daughter couldn't even swim in it as it was like ice. I will be contacting Alpharooms to complain about the standards of this hotel and definitely will not be returning!!!!

The smell in our room was disgusting you could not even sit out on balcony as it was so strong, the only mirror was in the toilet which for a family of four was no use .the indoor pool was closed, outdoor pool did not start to get filled with water till after we had been there for 2 days.there was one pool table for the full hotel you would have had to stay a month to get a turn on it.staff were friendly, food was good, but would not take a family back to this hotel.

ok, generally good but not a family hotel
We holiday'd at the Whala!Beach, Playa de palma during the last week of October. Weather was low 20s but generally sunny. It was the last week of the season and most places were closed or closing. Playa de palma is a nice beach resort and the beach is generally clean apart form locals with dogs who ignore the no dogs signs - luckily the beach is swept each night. Away from the beach front feels quite seedy at night but I am not aware of any problems. There are a lot of beach sellers but they are not pushy. Driving a car around playa de palma is a challenge of endless one way streets and parking in playa de palma is very limited with the beach front having no parking at all. If you cant parallel park in tight spaces don't hire a car, I can but the locals beaten up cars are testament to them not giving a toss and our hire car was damaged on the first night. On the 2nd night someone stole the roof aerial! The Whala!Beach is close to the beach but being in a side street our balcony never got any sun. It has two very small pools, one in the basement and one on the roof. Food was generally ok, buffet style, we stayed half board. The Whala!Beach is not ideal for children, the 2 pools are very small, there is no entertainment and can be quite noisy from nighttime revellers both within and outside of the hotel. Staff are friendly though we did have to ask several times to reclaim our missed dinner because of our late arrival.
The best thing about my stay was...close to beach

It's a decent hotel, rather good value for the money. The food is amazing, and the location is also very good - all the pubs, clubs, shops, boutiques, kiosks, tours, bus stops, etc. are at the doorstep - but for that reasons it's somewhat noisy, too. Although I'm a bad sleeper so it bothers me much more than it would an average person. It's somewhat worn down, the corridors and the elevator are dirty because people carry in lot of sand on their shoes and slippers, but the rooms are clean, the beds are medium-firm and long enough for a ~185, maybe even 190 cm tall person. The staff is friendly and helpful. All in all, if I ever go back to Mallorca I'll seriously consider staying here again.

Looks better than it is
Arrived in the early hours to find staff and a drunk guest arguing in the foyer. Hotel is in a very busy and very noisy area, perfect if you want the nightlife but not so if you want a relaxing holiday. Room very small but had a nice balcony looking over the sea but this meant it was above the very noisy road too. Food was edible and occasionally it was good on the themed nights. Bar staff friendly but reception service very poor and tried to avoid returning our €10 deposit for the TV remote. WiFi cost very expensive.
The best thing about my stay was...Luckily the hotel had a very nice roof top pool and terrace area.

Great budget hotel
Lesley P, London
A sea view room is a must. Food is good & the hotel rooms & lobby are very clean. Popular with young Germans who can get noisy at night. Beds are comfortable.
The best thing about my stay was...The location on a beautiful sandy beach with palm trees.

noisy stay at Whala Beach
Paul, Northampton, England
This was the fourth time I'd stayed at whala beach and previously had no problems as my room had been at the front of the hotel. Unfortunately this time my room was at the side which is over the entrance and faces a side road with a 24 hour shop which plays loud music constantly. The hotel caters mostly for Germans and seems happy to allow them to behave how they like which includes very loud drunken singing and shouting until 4am! The management are not interested in dealing with guests complaints and are quite rude and dismissive. If you get a room at the front of the hotel with a lovely view of the bay this is a bargain holiday, if you don't just stay at home!!
The best thing about my stay was...hotel has good location for beach and buses
The whala!beach was previously known as San Diego.
