Basic Hotel with very friendly Staff

The Viking Hotel is beautifully situated for Stratford town centre and the QE Olympic Park. Ideal if you are doing the Prudential Ride 100!

The best thing about my stay was...

Friendly and efficient receptionist

Poor customer service

The hotel was clean and rooms of good size however the customer service was poor. The man on reception on the afternoon of the 23/05/15 and morning of the 24/05/15 was rude. When checking in he was curt telling us to wait in the queue. There was no queue ordering us to sit back down . He reduced one young lady to tears as he refused to allow her to talk. I found this behavior unnecessary and feel he needs to go on some training or find another job as clearly he doesn't like what he is doing.

The best thing about my stay was...

REVIEW

Very poor and dissapointing. We could not check in until 14.00 hrs.Although they did offer to let us leave our bag.Breakfast was over too early 9.00 am is ridiculous to be finished and the choices were v.poor.The heat was on full in our room and we could not turn it off or down,we needed to keep our windows opened therefore this allowed the smell of smoke come into our room again v.poor.We had to be out of our room by 10.30 again very early to have to be gone.Overall a very poor place to stay,I would find it hard to describe it as a hotel

The best thing about my stay was...

The location for bus access

A decent 2 star hotel

For those on a budget this hotel ticks all the boxes. Rooms clean and comfortable, decent breakfast and friendly helpful staff. On the negative side small inexpensive repairs/improvements are needed. eg No non-slip mat on bathroom floor, cord to telephone falls out, telephone in reception needs repair.

The best thing about my stay was...

clean rooms

Cheap

The reception seemed ok and the manager was friendly. The Hotel provides free parking, which is a huge plus you can park at the front or in the back, which is closed from 8pm till 5am so is safe. After checking out i still needed to stay in the area untill later on in the evening and the manager allowed me to leave my car in the free car park at the back. Half of the viking is a hotel and the other half is a motel. I stayed in the motel part and as i walked outside to my room i saw a rat run in to an abondoned room, which i later found was a store room. I actually saw the rat do the same thing again the next day. This didn't deter me from staying in the hotel because the room it went it to was more of a shed than one of the hotel rooms. Anyway the hotel room itself was very clean and presentable and seemed newly built. The on Suite was good, again nice and clean. One major disadvantage was the room was extremely hot, there was a fan in the rtrom but not very powerful so i never really got to sleep just spent most of the time sweating. If it was winter i would be happy to return to this hotel but in summer i would rather pay a little extra and get a room with AC.

Good For 1 Night

We booked for the night as were going to see a show at the O2. The welcome at reception was friendly, the room wasn't finished to a high standard, (light switches had previously been moved and there were holes from where it was moved from) this may have been because the hotel is not quite finished yet. The rooms were compact and clean. they had everything you would need for an overnight stay (tea/coffee facilities, hairdryer, tv, electric fan) the bathroom was clean and adequate. The pricelist in reception was for £60 per night, I wouldn't have been happy to pay that but was happy with the rate I received through Alpha rooms (£47.50) Secure parking is availabe at the rear and was free. Breakfast was basic, Tea/Coffe, juice, cereal, toast and a small choice of cold meats. There are a selection of shops within a 2 min walk if you want drinks or snacks. We walked to Stratford Underground which took us 15 mins. Overall was a good location if you don't want to travel into the centre of london, was easy to find (on the main road). clean with everything you need for an overnight stay. I would say £60 is a bit too pricey as was very basic, I would be happy to stay again at the price I paid.
