Not as good as it used to be

I stayed at the TRYP Tenerife for the 3rd time recently and was surprised at the difference from the previous times. There was not a fridge in my room, or an hair dryer although they were in the room on 2 previous visits. They have been removed from the rooms, and now you have to pay to have them The TV only has 2 x English channels, BBC 1 and 2, which is ridiculous in this day and age. I traveled alone and didn't always want to go out in the evening, and the in house entertainment wasn't all that good. If you didn't go and put a towel on a bed by 8 a.m. you would not get one, especially on the roof terrace. The food was OK for what I wanted.I was all inclusive the 2 previous years, but had half board this year as the drinks are not to my liking, the only good thing about the all inclusive is being able to eat when you want to where I am concerned. I think that considering that the room prices at the hotel have increased considerably this year, they should at least include a fridge, safe, and hair dryer, with all the additional charges, it makes it a very expensive 3 star hotel, especially if you are single like me and pay more or less the price for 2 people to begin with..

The best thing about my stay was...

The position of the hotel and the friendly people staying there.

Tryp Hotel

reasonable room, clean, firm mattress (not hard) bed was on the small side though. Staff friendly and helpful. Entertainment was varied and good for this class of hotel. only stayed b@b but the variety of food availably was very good. disliked the credit system they use as no cash accepted in the hotel. given a sheet of paper to produce when purchasing food or drink when credit ran out refused service until I went back to reception to pre pay for further credit. No tea making facilities in rooms! I expect this to be available even in basic B@B accommodation. Having to use room card to gain access to toilets in public areas inconvenient and having only one public Ladies and one Gents inside the restaurant, bar and entertainment is inadequate. Hot food for breakfast was never hot at best barely warm. Except Porridge one day this was excellent, the next morning it can only be described as disgusting apparently having been topped up with water I witnessed a number of guests who went to get porridge all took one look and walked away, I did complain to a staff member he immediately brought the Chef out to take a look he returned within 5 mins. to thicken it up. I would have thought it would have been far better practice to throw away the original and brought out freshly made? Finally on another positive note we were being picked up at 0300 for an early flight and the night receptionist arranged for the restaurant lights to be switched on so we could obtain a hot or cold drink. That's what I call great customer service well done and thanks. ed

The best thing about my stay was...

Lots of really good reasonable priced restaurants in the vicinity. Very clean and pleasent walks along the promanade.
