Excellent stay

It was my 60th birthday and my wife, one of my sons and my daughter and their partners stayed at the Roxburghe. We'd stayed before and it was due to our recommendation that we all stayed there. The reception staff and concierge are very friendly and chatty in a nice not overbearing way. The rooms are lovely and clean and a good size. We especially liked the internal atrium outside space which is a lovely area to have a quiet drink in. The hotel is in a great position and a really short walk to all the great bars, restaurants and shops on George Street. In short, this hotel is in an ideal situation and with it's friendly staff, swimming pool, sauna etc. is a great place to stay.

The best thing about my stay was...

The breakfast was lovely

Perfect Location for NYE

Absolutely spot on! Perfect location as close to all shops, restaurants, bars, Princes Street & Edinburgh Castle. Only slight flaw is you could hear traffic noise, but I figure that's always going to happen with city centre hotels. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Superb

This was my third stay here and it gets better each time. I stay here because of its superb central location for a shopping trip /nights out, which means you're not wasting time and energy walking miles. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the breakfast fantastic. It was my friend's first stay at the hotel and she love it. I'll be back and next time I'll make sure I leave enough time to use the spa!

The best thing about my stay was...

Location and standard of hotel

Good Hotel spoilt...

Excellent position for sightseeing, nice modern decor, helpful staff, however shower was unusable, and room service did not deliver order. Limited tea, coffee and bathroom toiletries in rooms as expected for this standard of hotel.

The best thing about my stay was...

Good breakfasts, spa facilities an added bonus, brilliant position

Excellent, good location, clean but small room, nice breakfast

Stayed one night on business trip. Welcomed over the threshold by very nice unfortunately had to wait more than 5mins for receptionist to finish phone call with what appeared to be her boss before we coudl check in? Only down point though. Nicley furnished, lovely clean room and bathroom although a little small (did book single though). Good location, just off Princes St / George St. Great breakfast and generally good service. Would book again.

Nearly Great

I booked this hotel in July pre paid for October. arrived late to find it overbooked and no room available. Its always a clue when you ask to check in and they ask you to take a seat and would you like a tea or coffee. The manager arranged to transfer us to a sister hotel in another part of town and provided a taxi to the Hotel and back into town for the evening. The follwing morning another taxi was provoded to take us back to the original Hotel where we droped our cases and went off for the morning. A free bottle of wine arrived in our room and the facilities were good.

The best thing about my stay was...

Great location for city centre

Lovely Hotel

We enjoyed our 3 night stay from 3/10/2010. Lovely hotel, old yet comfortable and full of character, friendly staff, really good breakfast but car park a joke! Although we pre booked car park at a cost of £19/night we where not given our own space and had to double park (not what we where expecting), we refused to leave our car key with the concierge. Would recommend the hotel as close to Princes Street.

tired and run-down hotel.dreadful food.

This hotel is now really tired looking and run down.Seriously needs some attention. The food in the restauarant is awful, and the worst i have ever had in a 4 star hotel. Our beef, that we both had,was like dog food. The only reason my Husband ate his,was that we had to wait nearly 90 minutes for the main course,by which point we were starving. The breakfast was not much better, and as the small dining room was full,we had to sit and have ours at a tiny table in the foyer/bar,and then had to walk back and forth to the other room, for the buffet table. This should only ever be a 3 star hotel. The pool area is dirty, with loads of chipped/missing floor and wall tiles, and looks very shabby!Lunch was a joke,so we had to eat out, thankfully nearby. Not much choice, all they offer is sandwiches,a few lite bites or soup(@£6) in the bar area/foyer/.

The best thing about my stay was...

hotel location, right in the heart of the city, thankfully with some good restaurants nearby!

Almost Flawless

This was my second time staying at the Roxburghe, having enjoyed my last stay so much. I found the service very warm and welcoming, the room service food excellent, and the room delightful and comfortable. However, I was disappointed in the restaurant service. I waited at least 15 minutes for service, and the staff seemed disorganised and confused- I was asked after my starter if I would like to look at the dessert menu, and asked the same thing after I had finished my dessert! I also waited 15 minutes for my bill. That said, the food was excellent. Also, my room was serviced even though I had left the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on my door - I was out, but I may well have been napping or using the bathroom and my request for privacy was ignored. Overall, it is an extremely nice hotel and I would stay there again quite happily.

The best thing about my stay was...

The lovely room and comfortable bed!

MS

Very good breakfast and as much as you wanted. All Staff extremly pleasant and polite. They were very helpful and chatty with everyone. Executive room booked, the room did not seem any better than a Standard double room, no difference. Only grip, 1 bottle of water for 2 people staying was a bit mean. Area very central to all attractions. Worth a visit.

Great Hotel

We stayed at the Roxburge for 1 night we had 2 rooms and both were on the second floor and both were excellent. Checkin was a breeze and the staff were most helpful. The selection for breakfast in the morning was outstanding the black pudding was the best and Jimmy who took you to your table was so nice and polite. The location of the hotel is just at the far end of George street and is within easy wlaking distance of all the main attractions, pubs, restaurants and Waverly statation is a 10/15min walk away or a £5 taxi ride. I can safely say my partner and parents will definately stay here again the next time we travel to Edinbugh

Very good location. The rooms were clean and the staff very helpfull. This was our first time in Edinburgh, we could not find the hotel and rang for directions, instead the consierge came to find us on foot, jumped into the car to show us the way!

2 days

This hotel is situated in a very handy position. The rooms are clean and to a very good standard, we stopped in a twin and the beds were proper comfy. I wouldn't say the breakfast was full Scottish, more full English, no slice, no fried eggs and no white pudding but extremely tasty anyway. The famous Rose street is ten yards away with enough bars and restaurants to keep you going all night long. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

2 nights in August

p Pleasent stay in room 382 (new part) rooms opposite looked much big. Rather warm in the night and windows didn't open very far. Very clean and comfortable with complimentary tea and coffee with biscuits and bottled water in fridge. All staff pleasent and helpful. Only noticed 1 lift which was rather small and slow. Lovely breakfast. Busy time of the year with the fringe festival and tattoo but our room was ready when we arrived early and we didn't have to wait for anything. Lovely pool (12 mtr x 6 mtr) which we used once and had it to ourselves for most of the time. Would stay here again.
