Alicante Holidays & Hotels
Hotels in Alicante
Alicante is a vibrant beach city and historic Mediterranean port in Spain. It is the gateway to the Costa Blanca as well as the capital of the province of Alicante. So, if you want a mix of historic sights, beautiful beaches and spectacular shopping then Alicante is a perfect choice for your next holiday.
Alicante has many wonderful places to stay during your holiday and you can choose from hotels in the historic Old Town or purpose-built resorts close to the miles of beautiful, sandy beaches. Alternatively, you can stay near the airport, which is just 11 kilometres from the city centre and provides a good base for exploring the wider area.
Where to stay
Historic Old Town
As well as many historic sights and great medieval architecture, the Old Town offers plenty of boutiques and markets, plus hundreds of restaurants and a vibrant nightlife for those holidaymakers looking to keep busy. It is also well connected for adventures out of the city and, best of all, it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the beach.
The old town offers a range of places to stay from boutique accommodation to international chains and cheap hotels and hostels.
Alicante beaches and marina
As the sun nearly always shines in Alicante you can’t go wrong with a resort near the beach. Places to stay near the beach and marina include small family run hotels and larger chains with extra facilities such as pools, spas and gyms allowing you to get some R&R whilst on holiday. The beaches also have plenty of family-friendly restaurants nearby.
There are plenty of places to stay around Alicante airport and these offer a good base for exploring the region, with good connections to destinations including Torrevieja and Benidorm as well as Alicante’s major resorts. The accommodation here are budget friendly with plenty of international chains and cheap resorts that still offer great accommodation and plenty of facilities.
What to see
Alicante province is famed for its miles of golden, sandy beaches. It has 244 kilometres of coastline and the sun shines for 320 days of the year so you will get plenty of opportunity to soak up the rays.
San Juan is the central beach in the city and has beautiful golden sand and sparkling seas. The beach is also great for watersports including surfing, scuba diving and kayaking. A charming boulevard runs the length of the beach and offers plenty of places to eat.
If it’s history or culture you’re looking for, the castle of Santa Barbara is a towering structure at the heart of the city. Here you can find artefacts dating back to the Bronze age as well as from the Roman Empire. It's worth the climb for the spectacular views but there is a lift if you are feeling laid back. The Cathedral San Nicolás is in the heart of Alicante Old Town dates from the 1600s. Visit it for the striking Baroque interior and the altarpiece by Nicolás Borrás.
There is plenty to do late into the night in Alicante. You could have a drink at one of the many beach bars, visit a theatre or a casino or dine out in the chic marina. There are lots of cultural events, such as fiesta's and carnivals to enjoy too. so look out for these.
What to eat
The old town is the ideal place to head out to eat if you are looking for traditional Spanish tapas in beautiful medieval surroundings. The marina is another popular place for dining out; it has a range of traditional and modern restaurants so consider tasting the local paella here.
There are also plenty of beachside restaurants that are family friendly and offer a range of seafood, grilled meats and pizza. There are more upmarket restaurants here too if you fancy splashing out on some exquisite local seafood dishes.
The region is famous for its leather goods, so Alicante makes a great place to shop for shoes, belts and handbags. Alicante is also famous for its great food, including chocolate, nougat, olive oil and wine. On Sundays, you can head to the weekly antique market to pick up a more unique holiday souvenir of your stay.

The Hotel is in a fabulous location to the city, beach & restaurants. Lovely modern rooms with great facilities. Fabulous staff ! A little disappointed in the bar area it is ok for during the day but not somewhere for the evening just too casual, I think in the height of summer there may be another bar but not in February. At breakfast the food was warm not hot but there was a good selection. There is a spa pool and other facilities which you have to pay for with your room that you can only use once a day - the pool is really in need of an update unfortunately.
The best thing about my stay was...Location & fabulous staff! Also the excellent bars & restaurants in the town,

Overall our two night stay was good. Bed was comfy. Only negative would be having to pay for the milk which was in the mini bar (?!l) for the coffee and tea that was provided in room. Also we didnt use the spa and pool facilities as we felt extra charge for this was quite expensive. Breakfast pastries, fresh juice and toast were nice. Didnt like the meats and hot selection.
The best thing about my stay was...Comfy bed and central location. Handy for airport bus as bus stop short walk from hotel.

We were upgraded to a premium deluxe room that had been recently renovated and it was the best. The bed was so comfortable and the view amazing. Hoping to go back next year.
The best thing about my stay was...The view and the bed and lovely staff.

Choose high floor and rooms with outlook to both sea and marina, that way you get sun for most of day. The spa facilities are poor for this standard oh hotel and lack of pool for suites, but allowable for hotel guests causes consternation. I would come back here but have room that gets the sun on balcony for longer .
The best thing about my stay was...The attentive service provided by staff

We have been to the Spa Porta Maris around 5 times in the last 2 years and its always good. The location is excellent, the rooms whilst a little dated are clean with all the facilities you need. Rooms on the Marina side are good in the evening as they still catch the sun. Reception staff are helpful. Breakfast is really good, with a good varied selection though limited hot options, the location overlooking the beach is very nice if you are up and there early before the breakfast room gets busy
The best thing about my stay was...Breakfast and location on the Marina

Be prepared to pay $19 Euros per day for parking!!!!!! Also, the floors do not have carpet so anyone dragging a chair or furniture across the floor upstairs or next to you can be heard very loudly. Otherwise, it is a clean hotel in a great location.
The best thing about my stay was...The beauty of Alicante

Ideal location - close to Marina, Promenade and Town
Solo Traveller, Worcester
Stayed there in January 2012. The unusually wam weather was a bonus. Very clean and comfortable double room for single occupancy. I asked for a sea view which was perfect. However, because of the position of the hotel and the staggered way it was built I am not sure how many balconies would also get sun. I didn't. As a solo lady traveller, the hotel was ideal. There were quite a few lone business travellers so I didn't look unusual. B&B booking. Used only the cafeteria. Limited choice but I was only there for 2 days. Had room service the second evening. Very efficient delivery but rather small portions for the price. Pleasant staff. I can speak passable Spanish so I am not sure how good the staff were at speaking English. I think they could but were happy for me to practise Spanish. Bus stop to the airport is just over 100 yards from the hotel entrance. Every 20 minutes. Half an hour trip and only 2.70 Euros. I used the Spa for a two treatments. Great facial but the massage was not luxurious.
The best thing about my stay was...Central location and modern hotel - suitable for my trip

food on half board basis poor
Helen Walker, Stretford
Everything was good apart from the evening meal which you had to obtain a ticket for from reception. The food was very limited on choice. I would suggest you only opt for bed and breakfast
The best thing about my stay was...location

Good and not so good...
Abbey Haynes, London
The location is excellent - situated between beach and marina and pleasant stroll to all the nice restaurants/bars, etc. I paid for a suite but on arrival was allocated a twin room. I immediately returned to reception where the receptionist apologized for her error and reassigned a suite. Plenty of space, excellent terrace with wonderful views. Furniture was a bit basic - certainly not luxurious. Only gripe was no walk-in shower - the bath was cramped with shower attachment, but powerful water pressure. Breakfast was excellent - freshly squeezed orange juice, sparkling wine and good selection of local cheeses and ham cuts. Now the Spa. I did not avail myself of any treatments, but used the pool area for sunbathing. The sunbathing area is quite below par. Drinks machine was provided, but no bar service and pool is covered. You do not expect spa area to be designated smoking area, but there were ash trays everywhere. The sun loungers were cheap, nasty and quite uncomfortable. Also, during my stay the temperature rose to mid 30s and there was no provision for parasol. You were supposed to bake in the sun all day with no respite. I was unfortunate to actually witness a guest fall over in a dead faint from the unrelenting sunshine. Apart from that, it was a very good hotel. Alicante is lovely. Beautiful promenades, very friendly people, yummy ice cream and excellent tapas. I rate it 3 because of the poor pool area.
The best thing about my stay was...Views from the hotel terrace and excellent tapas

Great service and location
Had a lovely stay at Spa Porta Maris. Staff were very helpful and friendly. My only complaint would be only being able to access the pool once in the day - but it's ok because the beach is just outside the door! Was lovely to listen to the waves at night. The breakfast isn't cheap (cheaper is you pre-book I think), but selection of food is very good.
The best thing about my stay was...Location
