Luxor

Luxor

The captivating city of Luxor lies towards the south of Egypt and is situated on the east bank of the River Nile. Luxor enjoys an incredible all year round climate with temperatures reaching over 35°C in summer months and rarely falling below 30°C during the evening.

Described as the ‘world’s greatest open air museum’ the city lies opposite the incredible Valley of Kings, home to some of the world’s most fascinating sights. You can see the Temple of Karnak and the impressive Pharaoh’s tombs. The city has more to offer than its historic past. Visitors can spend an afternoon haggling for bargains in the magical bazaars, take a cruise along the River Nile or wander down the narrow alleyways and spend a lazy afternoon in a traditional Egyptian coffee house.

Luxor is ideal for those seeking an enchanting break in Egypt.

Very disappointing - nothing for children despite the hotel description.

The hotel was clean and that was the only positive. We chose the Pyramisa Isis solely on the fact that they would provide children entertainment via animation, play ground, childrens pool, kids disco etc, etc as per the Hotel description. This was not the case! There was absolutely nothing for the children apart from the main pool with the shallow end sectioned off with a floating rope. The childrens play ground was simply a climbing frame which was far from safe (my children are 2 and 3 years old) and could have quite easily have fallen down holes or cut them selves on the poorly maintained apparatus. I would rate this hotel as 3* at a push. The food was not good for 5* all inclusive nor was the service however those guests paying as they went along were treated and fed very well with a totally different standard of food which we would have been very satisfied with. It may be the biggest Hotel in the area but it is certainly not one of the best. Many of the other 4* & 5* hotels are very busy but the Isis has hole wings of rooms closed down due to lack of bookings, currently there are more staff than guests and they are all pretty much all looking for tips. Tourism in Luxor is on its knees which makes journeying outside the Hotel worse than ever with hoards of locals begging for business so much it even put me off and I am not a stranger Luxor for Holidays. Honestly, my advice is pick another hotel!

The best thing about my stay was...

The weather and the flight home!

Not 5 Star but food is great

Rooms facing the city are very noisy as they face the main road where traffic is constantly beeping even throughout the night. The first set of rooms we were given were smelly due to them being smoking rooms and the second lot of rooms we were given smelled musty and damp. The third lot of rooms smelled better but were very noisy. We did ask to change rooms, to move to a quieter ide, but unfortunately there was no availability. The lift broke down every day.

The best thing about my stay was...

the food, lots of choice

Very satisfied for the price we paid

We only stayed 2 nights at Pyramisa. In comparison to other parts of the world 5 stars is pushing it but in Egyptian terms it is what I came to expect. The hotel would have been luxurious in its day. We stayed on a B&B basis and were very pleased with what we recieved. The breakfast was plentiful and varied with something for most tastes. The room was large and clean albeit a little tired. The pool area was great and backs right up against the Nile. Some areas needed a little TLC but in general was clean and well kept. We never ate dinner at the hotel but found a nice restuarant near by which we enjoyed so much we went both nights. Its called Bombay and serves Indian, Chinese and Egyptian food. When you come out of the hotel turn right and it is a 5 minute walk away on the same side of the street as Pyramisa. Would happily stay here again

Hotel needs TLC

Stayed at Pyramisa for 7 days on All Inclusive basis, our party was 3 adluts and 2 children 12 & 14. We found the staff were not interested in the All Inclusive guests. Paying guests were constantly asked if they required drinks snacks etc but All Inclusive guests had to find hotel staff and ask. The food was very basic with little variety, the kids did struggle. The hotel has 2 pools one heated, tiles on the base of the pool had been repaired but sharp edges had been left, one of the kids cut their foot quite badly. The larger pool was excellent. The pool and terrace areas are dirty, they needed a good clean and there were not enough sunbeds for the guests. Tables around the pool used for drinks and food were never cleaned.

A star too far

I like this hotel - I'd happily stay there again. It claims to be a 5 star though so I have to base my review on that. Staff are friendly and helpful , the hotel facilities are fine , the gardens/pool area lovely. Cleanliness was spot on. The room ?.... I've read reviews of many Luxor hotels describing the rooms as 'tired'. Ours could have certainly done with 40 winks. There was a lot of noise from the main road outside too - not easy to sleep. The whole place does have an air of luxury about it - though not 5 star luxury I'm afraid. The real let down... the food. The buffet breakfast was adequate at best but the evening service - again a buffet - was nothing short of poor. Bland , luke warm, touristy and over expensive for what it was. The Italian restaurant in the gardens was ' pizza hut' standard at best. Eat in the local restaurants - tasty and inexpensive. King Tut's was nice , as was the Gaddis Hotel over the road. The Hotel's location - it's OK but there are better (and cheaper) hotels closer to the main centre of Luxor. We needed the obligatory haggle with a kalesh driver to make the frequent trip. To sum up - the Isis is slightly on the wrong side of 4 stars in my experience but - other than the food - there's nothing much that will disappoint esp. if you get a room on the Nile/pool side of the building. I'm rating it as 3 'suns' because I don't know how to rate it as 3 and a half!!

quite satisfied

Although at middle scale five star my wife and myself enjoyed our stay- everything clean and food o.k. Good choice at all mealtimes. Pools were fine especially the heated one. Towel attendants at pools couldn't do enough to help you. Would return anytime.
