Better then Disney hotels
Orlagh mc knight, Ireland
Just back from a short stay at Hotel Gold River Portaventura and cannot wait to go again! It was fantastic value, the rooms so comfortable, all hotel bar staff etc where so friendly and helpful. The interaction between the characters and children was far better then anything I'd seen in Disneyland,it was all so personal and not rushed. Direct access to the park, cannot wait to go again
The best thing about my stay was...Everything!!

This is the second time we've been to PortaVentura and we decided to stay on Holtel Gold River again because we were very pleased with the first visit. When we checked in, we were early. So, you get your passes for the park and you are given a text when you room is ready - nice touch. The Hotel has a main building alongside many other buldings. The whole thing is basically a Wild West town theme :) Access from the Hotel to the park was a 3-4 min walk through Wild West type buildings (some of which were actual accomodation). The whole Hotel area/theme was excellent. Some of the evening entertainment was in a wild west themed bar. So, kids loved the whole area around the hotel. We were 2 adults and 2 kids. The room had two double beds, were of a decent size and were comfortable. The bathroom and storage were more than adequate. We were in the park so much that i never checked if there were tea/coffee facilities. Overall, i was very happy with the room. We went for half board. The breakfast and dinner times were busy but what do you expect with an amusement park full of hyper kids : ) For breakfast, you need to pick a "slot" when you will arrive down - no big deal. The area was quite big with a choice to eat outside. The choice of food was very good for both breakfast and dinner. The Hotel has 3 swimming pools which we didn't use this year, as it was in March and not warm enough. We had previously used the pool area briefly - not very busy at all - so, easy access to sun beds etc We didn't get to use it this year - but last year in Aug, the day we checked out, we had use of a room with showers/towels. This was very useful as we spent the majority of the day in the park and was good to shower before getting flight home. If i HAD to list something to improve, it would be the following. When we arrived last time (August), we arrived early and were able to leave the luggage in the luggage area. However this time, we had to leave it in the car. I assume this was due to having a lower staff count off season. One other thing to point out and it’s more related to the park than the Hotel. We had been to the park in August and a lot of the rides are open til 10-11 with a parade going on after that til not far off midnight. When we went in March, the park was open til 8. Not sure how it worked if you were already in the queue but it was approx 8pm. It wasn’t a big deal for us – but just to be aware for people who had been previously in the summer and were planning to have dinner around 8 and go on more rides etc. There was still two evening shows in our hotel (9pm and 10pm – 9pm was geared towards younger kids. But 10pm show was still full of families). Overall, I'd highly recommend Hotel Gold River.
The best thing about my stay was...Wild West theme /proximity to the park

Hotel good , some really helpful staff others not so. Buffet good, not much seating outside. Rooms quite as was the hotel which was nice after the hustle and bustle of the park. Hotel good access to park but not so good for water park. Drinks at the hotel were not overpriced and the room had a fridge which we used for supermarket water etc.
The best thing about my stay was...Access to park

We stayed at the Gold River for one week in early June. This was our fourth time to stay in a Portaventura hotel but first time to Gold River. Its best attribute is the ease of access to the park. We could walk from our room to the entrance to the Stampida roller coaster in two minutes. We have three children so the Gold River suits as they have interconnecting rooms suitable for three or four children. We choose stay only with no food included as from experience you get sick of the buffet quickly but you quickly get sick of the park food also and the only other option is to go to Salou. The Gold River has a free bus to Salou from eight in the evening which is handy but that is where the problem lies. Salou is not a nice place and as the entertainment in the hotel is only suited to kids around four/five max you are stuck for evening entertainment. I would not return for this reason alone.
