Around 3 weeks we had days with heavy storm (Emma, Felix, Gisele) in Funchal, which caused irreparable damage at our natural solarium, that affected the guests safety.
For this reason, we had to take urgent measures and were obliged to replace the metal structure which supported the solarium.
We predict that the works will take place during more or less 2 weeks.

4 star but cosy. Loads of interesting parts to explore. Very handy bus stop directly outside to get cheaply and quickly to town.

friendly, and relaxing

brilliant hotel, great base for exploring the island, friendly, clean and helpfull, quiet, apart from the road outside, but quiet at night, food good, though as we stayed for two weeks on halfboard, the second week of meals mirrored the first, though a good choice of either fish or meat. Local bus right outside to take you into funchael, as well as the curtesy bus. Bedrooms have a fantastic views over the sea and Funchael. We were glad we stayed here rather than in busy Funchael, eating our breakfast and dinner overlooking the amazing views has no comparason. Great pool plenty of sunbeds
The best thing about my stay was...quiet, relaxed and friendly, great gardens great location

Way exceeded our expectations. Extremely good value, meticulously clean, large well equipped room with an epic view of the harbour. Nice pool and gardens with pool towels supplied. Excellent buffet breakfast. Useful complimentary shuttle bus, as hotel not in walking distance to town. Hotel was very quiet, as was the island as a whole (June). Would highly recommend.
The best thing about my stay was...View from our balcony

Excellent value for money. Location is outside Funchal. That was a bonus = the opposite end of town to The Hotel Zone. Beautifully situated. Great views. Extremely helpful staff - with good English. Bus stop outside door. We would have no hesitation in staying there again. Bus drops you off in Funchal at old town and near cable car for Monte.

what a view
we had a very good experience all round with no complaints. As all other's stated the views are fantastic, with whale and dolphins to spot. Towels changed daily, all staff helpful with lots of local information. Pool towel changed daily for 10 euro deposit each. Free bus great, we used local also, after you buy initial ticket for 2.25 you can top it up in Town which reduces the cost to less than a euro per trip. Hotel very good 4 star, position in Funchal for us was perfect, did take over an hour to walk into town tho. 20 min walk from Hotel is a fantastic Resteraunt, where people come for miles as that good, we would catch last bus up, 11.25, around 40 euro for two with wine, beer, coffee. We will return to this hotel

We stayed at the Ocean Gardens for 14 nights in May/June and had a wonderful time. The staff were great, the room was very comfortable and the views superb. Transport into Funchal was very easy and we walked in several times however never summoned the energy to walk back up to the hotel. The garens and pool were absolute gems and made even better by the panoramic views as they are on the roof.

Relaxing Week by the Pool
We have just come back from Ocean Gardens. If you like a hotel away from it all - with a lovely view over funchal Bay, with a great pool and gardens on the top of the hotel, and with good food in the restuarant - then this is for you. We chose the hotel because of the reviews here and on other sites and it is all true! We didn't do much but use the pool and relax so it suited us. Funchal itself didn't have much tho we went up the cable car and down on the tobogans which was fun. If you want to do more you will need a car - we didn't!! All the rooms have a sea view - just the sea! You can't see the bay from the rooms, but that didn't matter.

We stayed here for 10 nights the end of January. The hotel is 10 - 15 minutes drive from the old town and is situated on a cliff on the east side. The views over Funchal from the public rooms are magnificent as are the sunsets. The rooms are nicely furnished and well cared for and all have sea views. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast is continental with cereals, lovely fresh fruits, hams, cheese, yogurts, lovely breads, some cooked items etc. We were on B& B but had several meals in the adjacent restaurant which was very good with very attentive staff. Other nights we went into town to eat in the old part. Zarcos on the way to Funchal is also good and has similar views to the hotel. The terraces. pool area and gardens of the hotel are lovely with those gorgeous views. We weren't there for a lie by the pool holiday so didn't use the pool which I think would have been cold but some did swim. The only downside for some may be that the hotel is on a road lacking a decent footpath, but with the hotel courtesy bus and public buses from the entrance I would say it was easier to get into Funchal centre than from the very busy hotel zone which I felt was very built up. We had a car and it was so easy to turn left out of the hotel and get onto the via rapide or Camacha road. Just watch out for the crazy junction off the rapide. We were extremely lucky with the weather in January. Most days it reached 70 degrees in Funchal but it can be totally different up in the hills. We were very lucky and had sunshine every day even up on the tops of the mountains. It is a very rugged island with lovely scenery. We thoroughly enjoyed our winter break and were delighted with the choice of hotel for its views, room, friendly staff and excellent value.
