Good and bad

The Neptuno apartments are difficult to review because there are very good but bad several bad elements to the accommodation. So, I'll start with the good. I arrived as a single parent with a ten year old son and was pleasantly surprised at the service and accommodation after reading some very dubious reviews! The staff on reception were pleasant and helpful and the apartment itself was huge - a good sized living area with kitchenette, separate bathroom and a decent sized bedroom with lots of cupboard space. I got a seaview, as requested, though it did overlook many other hotels and apartments, so was a glimpse rather than a view. Regardless, For the budget price I paid, it was a nice surprise. The apartment had beds made and towels changed twice over the week though I didn't see evidence of any other cleaning. There is a good little supermarket left of the apartments which stocks most things at a reasonable price for emergencies but go down to the Gran Sur and visit the Mercadona (or Spanish Tesco as my son called it!) for your groceries. There are also some lovely shops and cafes in there, as well as a cinema. Yes, it's a walk down the hill and it's steep getting back up but it takes 5 minutes, honestly. Now the downside. I had to clean the coffee maker and all other pots/pans/cutlery as they were very dirty. There was also an ant problem in the room - just the little teenie ones, which you expect to some extent in a hot country, but they were relentless so keep all your food in the fridge! I missed not having an oven in the kitchen as I would have liked to bake some pizza/frozen chips etc so that was a problem for me. You also have to pay for the TV, which is ridiculous, so just take your tablet or laptop and DVDs, as I did. There was nothing going on for entertainment in the hotel so my son and I had DVD nights with treats on an evening. The pool was freezing and everything about the place is tatty and in need of update but if you're after a cheap bargain break in a roomy apartment, just remember that you only have to sleep there! Being a budget style accommodation, some of the clientele we encountered were 'interesting', Including a very, very large extended family of gypsy travellers and a loud hen party that woke us up at 3am two nights in a row but you have to accept that budget hotels attract this and you need to go with the flow. Or do what we did, which was spend our time at other pools and hotels in the area during the day and use Neptuno as a base. Overall, would I go to these apartments again? Yes - if I needed a bargain break on a budget but certainly not for a quality holiday.
