Lacking Local Style

Having spent the previous nights in really delightfully restored Cuban hotels, we were surprised by how modern and ugly this vast hotel was. The room was comfortable and did look out over the sea - apart from the concrete slabs of the building due to how it was constructed. Check in was slow, but the glass of sparkling wine was a nice gesture. Check out was very fast and easy. Nice pool and great access to the beach. The fact that almost everything was included is a nice touch, and made for a very sociable evening. If you are looking for a great beach location and plenty of activities then this would be an ideal place. If you are looking to appreciate Cuba - then it is definately not!!

The best thing about my stay was...

Fantastic hotel, we were upgraded to a suite which was so spacious. Food in the restaurant was excellent and the staff were so friendly. Also the japanese restaurant is a must to try out. I would recommend this hotel over other resorts in Varadero as it is on the beach. We visited others and it was a short walk to the beach.

Not a luxury hotel. Freezing when weather 16 degrees (day time)as it was for four days with Northerly wind drafting through. No heating. Needs painting/all a bit tired. New Years excellent food, wine and entertainment but fish on other days often not on menus is some restaurants. Staff nice and friendly (mosty) Animation timetable not always adhered to. Paid for Sea View. Bit of a con, they all have sea view as hotel on a sand spit with sea either side but eventually got a room overlooking beach and not car park, bins etc with sea beyond. Very limited number of hobie cats, kayaks etc. Bikes are a bit lethal. One pool (billiards) table for 450 rooms. Room was good, clean with good ensuite. Inside bars overcrowded at times due to weather and chilly. Overall good hotel (3/4 star) with friendly staff, clean with nice pool and setting but not comfortable without the expected temperature.
