Budapest Holidays & Hotels

Hotels in Budapest

From popular cheaper chains to boutique hotels, your stay in Hungary’s capital of Budapest can be as luxurious or budget-friendly as you like. This artistic city has a range of accommodation options for solo travellers, friends, families and couples, making it a holiday destination to suit all.

Split in half by the winding River Danube, Budapest is a vibrant city that’s made up of stunning architecture, geothermal springs and unmissable view spots. Whether you visit for the Christmas markets or at the height of summer, Budapest a destination that will delight visitors of all ages and all tastes.

Where to stay

District V

If you’re looking to be in the middle of all the sights during your holiday, District V is the place to be. As the tourist centre of Budapest, District V is home to several large hotels as well as dozens of delicious restaurants, bars and shops. You’ll have the iconic Hungarian Parliament building on your doorstep, as well as Liberty Square and endless museums. District V also has a buzzing nightlife, and handily leaves you just a short walk away from all the sights across the river and further out of the city.

District VII

District VII is well known for being the city’s lively and artistic hub. As Budapest’s Jewish Quarter, it’s also rich with history - you can’t miss the Dohány Street Synagogue, built in the mid-19th century and now officially Europe’s largest synagogue. Hotels in this district will leave you perfectly situated for exploring the thermal spas, museums and shopping centres - and you’ll also be slap bang in the middle of all the city’s ruin bars.

District I

Located on the left hand side of the River Danube, a holiday in District I offers a quieter stay in Budapest. This is where you’ll find the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Castle District, which contains both the Buda Castle and the Fisherman’s Bastion. It’s also home to a number of lesser-known thermal baths including Rudas Baths and Gellert Thermal Bath just a short walk away from most hotels in the area.

What to see

Budapest is a city that’s rich with history and cultural hotspots, so you’ll never be short of things to see and do during your holiday. After a wander along the River to see the striking Hungarian Parliament building and the moving Shoes on the River Danube Bank memorial, you’ll be in the heart of the city. Take a tour of the Hungarian State Opera, and soak up the free views of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, one of the most famous sights in Budapest.

Whatever the weather, no trip to Budapest is complete a trip to one of the many thermal baths. Széchenyi Thermal Bath to the north of the city centre is the most well-known. It’s home to 21 indoor and outdoor pools ranging in temperatures from 18°C to 40°C, with room to take in a few laps or just to simply enjoy a soak. Fisherman's Bastion, over the other side of the River, is another unmissable spot. The panoramic viewing terrace has fairy tale turrets and archways, and offers the best views across Budapest.

Nightlife

Budapest has a lot to offer in the way of lively nightlife; millions flock to the city every year for a holiday to enjoy the inexpensive, eclectic after-dark entertainment. The ruin bars, so called for their locations in dilapidated buildings, are dotted around the city and are a must visit. Szimpla Kert is one of the most famous ruin bars, featuring a warren of little rooms filled with mismatched furniture, live music and eclectic art. There’s also plenty of other nightlife to keep you busy, too, from casinos to bars, nightclubs and even parties in the thermal spas!

What to eat

From hearty meals to sweet treats, Budapest has its fair share of delicious food for you to sink your teeth into. As the national dish of Hungary, goulash is probably one of the most popular meals around. It’s usually made with beef and vegetables, and is seasoned with a touch of paprika for a warming kick. For dessert, try a dobos torte - a delicious sponge cake layered with chocolate buttercream and topped with caramel. Or, treat yourself to a Kürtoskalács, a hollow cake that resembles a chimney, and which can be personalised with everything from cinnamon to Nutella – you are on holiday after all!

Shopping

The vibrant Váci street is one of the most well-known shopping areas in Budapest, and features everything from souvenir shops to high street stores and local crafts. The stylish WestEnd City Center is another of Budapest’s shopping havens. It’s got floors of international and local shops, as well as plenty of food stalls to keep your energy levels up.

Good value for the price!

Stayed here for 5 nights and yes, I read about the stained carpet in hallways and the odd cigarette burns in the rooms, but apart from that i must recommend this hotel. For the price its absoultley fine,12 minutes walk from the Danube, 20 minutes from the main centre. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice bathroom. The breakfast choice was good, the usual meat, cheeses, cereal, fruit , yoghurt etc and Bacon, sausage and lovely scrammbled egg. The staff were very friendly and could talk english. Also a nice Bar with good prices, a large beer £2, bottle of red wine £11 and a cosy feel to it. If I went back to Budapest, I would definatley stay here again! P.S. If any of the Mamara management are reading this, get the owners to invest in a newer( and darker) carpet!

The best thing about my stay was...

Friendly staff and good hotel.
10/10 Amazing

Blown away.

This was a very last minute booking and I was absolutely taken aback by how amazing this place is. There were four of us travelling and we were given our adjacent rooms as requested. I was a bit concerned when we were given our room numbers as we were situated on the first floor (previous experience of hotels is the higher the floor, the better the room) but there was no need at all. The rooms were extremely clean with enough storage space for clothes and toiletries. The bathroom was spotless and had an amazing shower which was the perfect temperature. Some people may have thought the rooms were a tad on the small side but, we were using them purely to sleep in and weren't at all bothered about the size. The staff were out of this world. Every morning we were greeted by the friendly waiting and reception staff and they couldn't do enough for us. My friend requested an iron and ironing board and it was delivered to the room promptly. The breakfast was delicious and they had something for everyone. Coffee, juice, fruit, hot plates, cereal, toast, jam and croissants. Could not fault it at all. It is situated right in the heart of the city, with the Metro a five minute walk down the street and the Danube 10 minutes in the other direction. The hotel is absolutely fantastic and I believe everyone will enjoy their stay here.

The best thing about my stay was...

The price. It was so, so reasonable and included our breakfast.

Hotel Marmara

Overall very good, Downsides: Hotel carpet light beige and really dirty, this is not a major issue but is off putting. 2,. buffet breakfast not very well organised but something for all, (not great choice). 3. Hotel bar says open until midnight but each night closed early.4. Bed really hard, although we did get used to it. 5.Bedrooms very small, but adequate. Positives: Hotel is in a great position for travel into city center either by walking or tram /metro etc. 2. Lots of bars and restaurants to walk to in the evening for lunch. 3. Hotel staff very polite and friendly. 4. Hotel really pleasant overall, closer to a good 3star than a 4star. However after saying all this is we returned to Budapest we would probably stay here again as for the price it is worth it!

perfect !

The location was perfect for sight seeing. The hotel itself we couldn't fault...everything we needed was there and more ! Breakfast was very good, help yourself to as much or as little as you like. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to see the sights and who likes to be within walking distance of the town centre.

The best thing about my stay was...

location.

Smart hotel close to sights and transport.

Good looking and comfortable room with high standard of decoration and furnishings. Not a huge amount of space but that's partly because of there being plenty of storage. Close to sights eg the Parliament building is ten minutes walk, or there are tram and metro stops within five minutes. The immeadiate area is lively with numerous places for eating and drinking - worth seeking out Potkulks, the nearest 'ruin bar'. Word of warning - rooms facing the street will be noisy - but there are others facing an inner courtyard if this is a worry.

The best thing about my stay was...

Comfortable room, and a good location.
