Better than it looks
Dave, Ellesmere Port
Just got back from isla bonita, had a great time. 1st impressions weren't great because arrived on cloudy day and hotel looked more like tower block rather than hotel and room was tired and neglected in basement looking at concrete retaining wall and busy road. Asked to move rooms and reception brilliant. In fact, we had a few issues with certain things, minor really like swapping a bed etc and reception were on them straight away. Nothing was too much trouble and they solved every problem we gave them really quickly. Our new room was great, and all the rest I saw when being cleaned looked similar, so just unlucky with 1st one. Wifi was best we have ever had, food was great for us, mix of continental, English and themed, although some people still complained. Evening entertainment generally very good and varied and animation team, like reception team excellent with a varied programme of activities. Hotel was a short stroll to beach. Whilst the pool area sometimes a bit lively if you want a bit of peace and a lovely cooling breeze, check out the roof terrace with a shower and plunge pool. Great for us while the teenagers stayed down with the action. Overall, I would say that this was a very enjoyable stay, but I think that the fabric of the building could do with a real overhaul to bring it up to the standard of the surrounding hotels. A lick of paint in a colour more easier on the eye or maybe render over the pebbledash. Also, make sure they tart up those few rooms that fall below the general standard.
The best thing about my stay was...Roof terrace with plunge pool and the staff, all very customer focused and very helpful

Isla Bonita - great holiday stay
Liz &Grant, Aberdeen
We read some of the reviews which were not favourable, however, we had stayed here before and knew they were either untrue or greatly exaggerated. This is a large complex which admittedly could do with a coat of paint on the exterior and some upgrading but on the whole we had a great time. Great location, friendly staff, spotlessly clean accommodation which has living area, bedroom and bathroom. Food was good, entertainment had good and not so good but mostly enjoyable. Pool B has lots of activities during the day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return
The best thing about my stay was...Professionally run, friendly staff, rooms cleaned daily and relaxed atmosphere

On arrival we didn't receive any help with luggage or a tour of the place to show us where everything was, rather disappointing. It was like a maze !!!
The best thing about my stay was...The rooms were spotless. Very impressed. Clean towels, beds made etc.

Pleasant stay at Isla Bonita,Pleasant staff, variable entertainment. Clean rooms, clean hotel, good food selection. As been said, maybe not 4* now, refurb needed, but, that has started with 2 Pilot rooms. Watch this hotel become Adele's 4/5* Flagship.
The best thing about my stay was...Friendliness of staff and other guests

Had a great holiday

3rd time to return to the Isla Bonita, and again we had a great time. The friendliness of the staff, excellent menus and variety, very clean rooms and pool areas. We also had great fun with the animation staff who work so hard. The hotel is old, but the cleanliness made up for the rest.
The best thing about my stay was...Would have to say the hardworking animation staff

Not bad but would not return
Family of 5, North West England
This was a last minute half term break. The food was better than I expected, but what you expect from a hotel in the price band and what I booked it (2 rooms, 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 1 child = £1500 6 nights October half term). The rooms are tired and the building facade is somewhat depressing. The hotel pools were not designed around maximising on the sunshine. Alebit winter sun, the pool was in darkness until 12pm in October, kids were freezing in the pool until after lunchtime, or would not get in. The main bar area was the central area of the hotel where the entertainment took place. This was shaded most of the day and when you looked up at the balconies surrounding you, felt somewhat prison like... The staff in the restaurant (which was in the basement and again somewhat dull and depressing) were very nice and worked hard, they did often take a while clearing empty plates but I didnt see anyone other than us leaving a tip in the jar at the entrance to the restaurant. Self service drinks in the restaurant were a bonus to save waiting to be served. The all inclusive ambience was as expected and meal times were to serve one purpose only, to eat, it wasnt very enjoyable. There was a good selection of food and it was very clean. The all inclusive drinks finish at 11pm when the place seems to close? The entertainment wasnt bad, and again, was as expected. The location is quite good, ten minutes to beach and shops. Had a 17, 18 year old who were both very bored and an 8 year old who didnt like the kids club (which is open mornings and afternoons). The rooms were clean, but old and tired. Our balcony overlooked an unkept garden and main road and did not benefit from any sunlight. The rooms have a breakfast bar in the living room and the lighting is poor. Behind the breakfast bars (we had two rooms) are two locked off louvred doors which house an old kitchen? There is a derelict bar to the rear entrance of the hotel which you pass through to access the shops and taxi rank. Hyperdino is just next door. Some areas of the hotel seem neglected/deserted. The pictures on the website show a refurbished basement bar, this is the only modern area within the hotel. To be fair to the hotel, given the layout and current structure, I doubt they could do anything to bring this hotel in line with others in the area? The reception staff were mainly quite helpful. Overall it was far from a cheap week away but given the options when I booked this late, much nicer hotels were 50% more expensive again, but with hindsight, maybe we should have paid the difference and enjoyed the week?
The best thing about my stay was...The staff were all quite nice - that was about it
