Alicante Holidays & Hotels

Hotels in Alicante

Alicante is a vibrant beach city and historic Mediterranean port in Spain. It is the gateway to the Costa Blanca as well as the capital of the province of Alicante. So, if you want a mix of historic sights, beautiful beaches and spectacular shopping then Alicante is a perfect choice for your next holiday.

Alicante has many wonderful places to stay during your holiday and you can choose from hotels in the historic Old Town or purpose-built resorts close to the miles of beautiful, sandy beaches. Alternatively, you can stay near the airport, which is just 11 kilometres from the city centre and provides a good base for exploring the wider area.

Where to stay

Historic Old Town

As well as many historic sights and great medieval architecture, the Old Town offers plenty of boutiques and markets, plus hundreds of restaurants and a vibrant nightlife for those holidaymakers looking to keep busy. It is also well connected for adventures out of the city and, best of all, it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the beach.

The old town offers a range of places to stay from boutique accommodation to international chains and cheap hotels and hostels.

Alicante beaches and marina

As the sun nearly always shines in Alicante you can’t go wrong with a resort near the beach. Places to stay near the beach and marina include small family run hotels and larger chains with extra facilities such as pools, spas and gyms allowing you to get some R&R whilst on holiday.  The beaches also have plenty of family-friendly restaurants nearby.

Alicante Airport

There are plenty of places to stay around Alicante airport and these offer a good base for exploring the region, with good connections to destinations including Torrevieja and Benidorm as well as Alicante’s major resorts. The accommodation here are budget friendly with plenty of international chains and cheap resorts that still offer great accommodation and plenty of facilities.

What to see

Alicante province is famed for its miles of golden, sandy beaches. It has 244 kilometres of coastline and the sun shines for 320 days of the year so you will get plenty of opportunity to soak up the rays.

San Juan is the central beach in the city and has beautiful golden sand and sparkling seas. The beach is also great for watersports including surfing, scuba diving and kayaking. A charming boulevard runs the length of the beach and offers plenty of places to eat.

If it’s history or culture you’re looking for, the castle of Santa Barbara is a towering structure at the heart of the city. Here you can find artefacts dating back to the Bronze age as well as from the Roman Empire. It's worth the climb for the spectacular views but there is a lift if you are feeling laid back. The Cathedral San Nicolás is in the heart of Alicante Old Town dates from the 1600s. Visit it for the striking Baroque interior and the altarpiece by Nicolás Borrás.

Nightlife

There is plenty to do late into the night in Alicante. You could have a drink at one of the many beach bars, visit a theatre or a casino or dine out in the chic marina. There are lots of cultural events, such as fiesta's and carnivals to enjoy too. so look out for these.

What to eat

The old town is the ideal place to head out to eat if you are looking for traditional Spanish tapas in beautiful medieval surroundings. The marina is another popular place for dining out; it has a range of traditional and modern restaurants so consider tasting the local paella here.

There are also plenty of beachside restaurants that are family friendly and offer a range of seafood, grilled meats and pizza. There are more upmarket restaurants here too if you fancy splashing out on some exquisite local seafood dishes.

Shopping

The region is famous for its leather goods, so Alicante makes a great place to shop for shoes, belts and handbags. Alicante is also famous for its great food, including chocolate, nougat, olive oil and wine. On Sundays, you can head to the weekly antique market to pick up a more unique holiday souvenir of your stay.

10/10 Amazing

30 April 2019

Hotel Albahia - Great Hotel in a Great Location.

Pleasantly surprised with the overall quality. Spotlessly clean, staff could not do too much - you just have to ask - and great facilities for a 3 star hotel. Quiet location, 30 mins walk into Alicante Old Town. Great little beach adjacent (100 yards max) with fantastic swimming and water quality. Tram stop only 5 minutes walk (La Isleta). Seasonal bars and restaurants locally. We could not have asked for more & will be returning for our annual trip to Alicante!

The best thing about my stay was...

The generosity of the staff

Value you for money

upgrade offered on arrival for €24 took offer room was clean and spacious well presented. Friendly staff. Kept awake due to movement above our room long after 1am and then again woken very early 7am due to noise above us which we discovered was the dining room. Hotel between residential apartments again a lot of animal Josie dogs barking etc. No swimming pool open. 20-30 Mon walk to Alicante quite hilly taxi cost about ,€6-8. Taxi from airport approx €26. Lovely view onto sea. Think it might of been quieter has we not paid to upgrade.

The best thing about my stay was...

Room spacious balcony and dear view

Hotel Albahia Alicante

Our 4th stay at this Hotel (Each stay 8-10 Days).Usually between £26-£32 per room per night and similar room standard/layout to Premier inn Hotels.24 hour reception.Fully functioning restaurant and coffee bar and very reasonable prices (breakfast £7,Dinner from £12).Small Gym for use after 9am.Our room this time(Room 212) below Pool Table location so banging balls up till midnight kept us awake. Were re-allocated quiet room next morning with no fuss.Outside tennis hardcourts and summer use swimming pool.Updating nearby tramstation(La Isleta) so nearest stop either Albufereta (1km walk or Sangueta (also 1km).Hotel in large Domestic Flat complex but no noise, very helpful staff, free WIFI and Computer available for small charge if needed.Hotel 20 min walk (1.5km) from Alicante.Alicante/Benidorm like comparing Torquay with Blackpool.

MYRA

Hotel was clean and pleasant but it was too far from the beach, no shops nearby. Bar in hotel closed at Midnight. This hotel was more suitable for a Business stay than leisure. We left after one day. Our room looked out on a wall.

The best thing about my stay was...

Nothing

Cheeky Weekend Away

Cannot fault this hotel one bit from arriving we were made to feel extremely welcome, we arrived early but our room was ready for us. Room was immaculate with a sea view, breakfast and evening meal was delicious.

The best thing about my stay was...

Peaceful relaxation.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We needed to asked for the tea and coffee facilities at reception and it was delivered very quickly. Housekeeping was done every day and towels replaced daily. It was extremely clean and quite modern. Would recommend that you upgrade to a room with a sea view on the second floor though as the alternative is a view of a concrete wall. The hotel is only a 10 minute stroll to beautiful Albufereta beach (if you walk to the far end of the beach there's a wooden walkway over the excavated roman baths) which is ideal if you want to swim although little sandy coves can be reached from the second floor of the hotel via a bridge past the tennis courts but these are a bit rocky for swimming. We cannot comment on the quality of the food provided in the hotel restaurant as most evenings we traveled into Alicante on the 21/22 bus (fare €1.45 each, a journey of less than ten minutes). The town centre is very atmospheric in the evenings in particular the restaurants in front of the Puerta Santa church when the bells are ringing and walking along the promenade. We also took the tram to Benidorm from "La Isleta" tram stop which is just before the beach. You can buy your tickets on the tram and Benidorm is the last stop. We would also recommend a visit to Castillo De Santa Barbara. Take the lift (€2.70 each). The 360deg views are spectacular, wear comfortable shoes for the walk down. We found this hotel ideal and we stayed for 10 days. We were looking for a peacful, relaxing, fuss-free break and this was the perfect place. If you're looking for a lively, fast paced, night clubbing holiday - then this is not the place for you. If I was to find fault it would be the lack of a fridge in the room but that's a minor thing. The transport links from the Hotel are excellent with a bus and tram stop within walking distance. Hope this review helps.

The best thing about my stay was...

Very clean, friendly staff, lovely view from balcony.

What a disappointment...

- looks nice on the internet but far from nice. Close to the beach...but just see the see... - rooms like you find them in Africa...maybe fresh painted but looks old and tired - cleanness is doubtfull...06 overnights in the same sheets...still the same dust... - remote location (10 min to the tramstation to go to town also 10 min) about the food - breakfast OK no prob - We had halfboard; but absolutely bad food. Choice out of the menu of the day...but bad cooked and really simple (read cheap)...had to complain several times about the cooking of the food. also possible to eat "à la carte" looks much better than halfboard... For a 03 star hotel it was a strange experience...a mixe between good things but mostly bad things. Surely not worth 03 stars.

The best thing about my stay was...

Still thinking about....
