Lovely hotel and staff
Very impressed with the hotel , lovely clean rooms comfy beds and all the staff were very pleasant our room was a double with sea view. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room . We enjoyed our stay on a bed and breakfast basis , the breakfast had plenty of choice of hot and cold food. Around the pool area there were plenty of very comfortable loungers with thick padded mats and there were different areas available to sunbathe, we never had to search for a sundowner. However , I understand from speaking to regular tourists to this area that from the middle of June until the middle of September, the resort is incredibly busy , to the extent that it takes 30 minutes to walk what took us 5 minutes , as this hotel is the only one in the area I imagine it could get very crowded and busy. There are a lot of steps down to the pool and beach so this might be a problem if you had a pram or had trouble walking
The best thing about my stay was...Being so near to beach and restaurants

A great place to stay for a rest.

We were pleased with this hotel, had a large twin room with large bathroom, and everything worked. It was a bonus to have tea-making facilities too. We had dinner and breakfast, and the choice of food was very good.
The best thing about my stay was...Being near the beach, the warm swimming pool, and excellent service.

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn usually twice a year for many years since it was The Garbe. Service and staff are first class .
The best thing about my stay was...Position of hotel with sea views and their standard

Really nice hotel and the food was good. We were half board. The drinks in the bar are a little expensive so we went out so cannot comment on entertainment. The resort is quiet and relaxed just what we wanted. Room was lovely and beds comfortable but we had no balcony instead we had a door which opened up on to a shared patio area which overlooked the beach and sea which was lovely. The rooms have fridges which are good to keep cold water, etc. Air conditioning is great.
The best thing about my stay was...Everything.

Hotel - great location

Hotel staff - excellent service by all. Very disappointed that the beach lounge area was all reserved for the month by the Portugese. Hotel sun loungers were ok, but clearly not enough, as having to get up early to put your towels out to claim your bed. Food ok. Loved the evening walks in town but not the number of Mosquitos
The best thing about my stay was...The location

Our fourth trip to the hotel, so I suppose that says it all.We really enjoy the atmosphere here. We find that at Christmas it does have a lot of older guests. It is undergoing some renovation at present but that was not at all noticeable to us. Claudia on reception was very helpful and efficient. Will definately stay there again.
The best thing about my stay was...The comfortable bed and the lovely breakfast

Nice relaxing place to stay and best location in town
Robert Walls, Coleraine
Just returned from a week at the Holiday Inn. Have to see we both had an excellent stay. Hotel was clean, staff were very friendly and everything was run efficiently and to a high standard. I don't think we could really fault anything. The location is amazing- best in the town, and it's quiet also for those looking to relax and not be bothered by a street full of clubs pumping out music all night. Only one thing I could say is I've stayed in more modern and fancier 4* hotels but I don't think this is a real criticism. Would go back tomorrow!
The best thing about my stay was...Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the beach and ocean

We have just returned from a 4 day break at the hotel (between Christmas and New Year) Our previous visit was in November. This hotel is beautifully positioned on the beach and within easy walking distance of practically everthing in the resort. The staff are friendly but not intrusive. Our room had everything we needed plus the added bonus of a sea view. Breakfast was brilliant to suit all tastes and plenty of it and an added highlight is the afternoon tea and cakes. My only negative observation (hence 4 stars) is the unpleasant odour in the basement en route to the pool area. Hope they can sort that out!!!

This is definately not a 4 star hotel
Gary Smith, Plymouth
The best thing going for this hotel is the location right on the beach. On arrival we were allocated a room that stank of smoke, even though we had requested a non smoking room. The plug hole in the bath was filled with hair and the pole to hang your clothes on was broken meaning we could not hang our clothes in the wardrobe. I then took a shower and whilst I had shampoo on my head the water stopped flowing. I had to get water from the sink to rinse off. I complained and was allocated another room in which the air conditioning did not work with temperatures in the 30's I complained again and was allocated another room. This room was ok but the decor and furniture was from the 1970's.
The best thing about my stay was...The location of the hotel.

I have been to this hotel a number of times when it was the Hotel Garbe. It has been refurbished to suite the colour scheme of Holiday Inns. There was new furniture in the bedrooms, the beds(2 single alongside each other) were so comfortable and large. The room was a very good size. The facilities in the room include tea making, toiletries, hairdryer, free wifi in reception and bar, could have done with access to iron and ironing board, also in need of a few more coat hangers in wardrobe. We had a beautiful sea view room well work the extra money. The hotel is overlooking the beach and is very clean. The rooms are cleaned every day towels changed daily too. The staff which are mainly the former Hotel Garbe staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good loads of choice, we did not have dinner but visited the Raj Indian Restaurant owned by the hotel had an excellent meal there. I love Armacao de Pera and visit it every year this hotel is the best in my opinion in Armacao. A special mention for the staff in the Boa Vista Bar who were so friendly and efficient.I visited the Hairdresser who was excellent and the Beauty Salon Jane was great terrific massage and facial. All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday.

Good for a quiet break
Liked best: -Location (on the beach but also on the central promenade) - Were offered a room to have a shower before leaving. We had already checked out in the morning but didn't have our flight until the evening, so we could enjoy the sunsine on that last day and then shower an travel all fresh. Liked least: -Prices in the hotel bar. More than double of what you'd pay just accross the road. An expresso coffe, for example, was 1.7€ at the hotel, while it costs only 0.70 € accross de road (try Busiris bar for good coffee and icecream) and in any other bar in town. Same for beer and food. -Room cleaning: they just seemed to tidy up the bed and change towels. You would hardly notice that the cleaning lady was there. - Breakfast: buffet breakfast somet mornings ran out of basics that didn't seem to be replaced. (some pastries, etc) Overall a good stay, we were just looking for a quiet spot for a week of relaxation.
The best thing about my stay was...Right on the beach.

Winter sunshine break
Andy and Sue Alabaster, St Leonards On Sea, East Sussex
This was our first stay since the hotel has changed to a Holiday Inn and our 6th stay over all. We were very pleased to find any changes were for the better. The hotel has not lost its personal feel, still has it's great staff and is a perfect place for a relaxing break. Rooms are comfortable and the food is good. The sea views from the rooms and from the bar are one of the best things with this hotel and are of course unchanged too.
The best thing about my stay was...Friendly, helpful staff, comfortable room, sea views and sunshine

EXCELLENT STAFF AND FACILITIES
Caroline Reynolds, Blandford, Dorset
EVERYTHING FROM THE SMOOTH CHECK-IN UNTIL THE DAY WE DEPARTED WAS 1ST CLASS ABOUT THIS HOTEL. EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF STAFF WE DEALT WITH WAS POLITE, HELPFUL, KNOWLEDGEABLE, CHEERFUL AND NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE FOR THEM - THE HOTEL CHAIN AND THE MANAGEMENT TEAM SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF THEIR STAFF AS MY PARTNER AND I FOUND THEM TO BE OUTSTANDING IN THEIR ATTITUDE AND WILLINGNESS TO HELP AND ENSURE YOUR TOTAL COMFORT AND HAPPINESS THROUGHOUT THE STAY. ALSO THE BREAKFAST BUFFET CANNOT GO WITHOUT A MENTION - SIMPLY DIVINE AND ANYTHING YOU MAY WISH FOR IS AVAILABLE. WE TOTALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY AT THIS HOTEL AND VERY MUCH HOPE TO VISIT AGAIN. THE LOCATION IS ABSOLUTELY FACULOUS TOO.
The best thing about my stay was...STAFF, LOCATION, SEAVIEW ROOM AND THE SCRUMPTIOUS PASTRIES SERVED AT BREAKFAST.

Great Location - Great Hotel !!
We have just returned from our regular yearly visit to the Holiday Inn Algarve which was formerly the Garbe Hotel and has just been taken over by Holiday Inn this year. They have already made some changes and are refurbishing all the room to the 'Holiday Inn style'. This is a great improvement. All the staff have remained the same which is good as they are always friendly and helpful and remember returning guests. They always try to accommodate your needs and will help if they can. Seaview rooms are the best as you have wonderful views of this fabulous beach. The rooms are very comfortable and have a mini bar, TV, tea making facilities, comfortable beds and new pillow menu. This hotel is in a beautiful location right on the lovely beach in Armacao De Pera which is a very Portuguese resort. During the summer months it is full of Portuguese familes who flock to the beach during the day and into the town in the eveings. The resort has quite a few restaurants serving delicious food and wine and has a lovely atmosphere during the summer. In the winter time it is really quiet but still enough restaurants open for evening meals. Our favourite restaurants are the Clipper (bit pricey but worth a visit), A Tasca ( again maybe a bit pricey but definately worth a visit), A Grelha (oldest in the resort but lovely family run restaurant with many regular diners - good choice and reasonable prices), Davi (on the main street and very popular inexpensive food but delicious). There are limited bars but in the old town Kippi's is good, Havana Bar. Opposite the hotel is a pub called The Waterdog but this is very English and only handy if you want a late drink otherwise give it a miss. We would highly recommend this hotel and the resort. It will suit couples and families but maybe too quiet for younger people.

A really enjoyable visit..
C Scarlett, London
My daughter (aged 12) and I have just returned from a week in Armacao de Pera, staying at the Garbe Hotel - now Holiday Inn. I must say my heart sank when I first received notification from Alpha Rooms that the Garbe had been taken over, but was happily reassured! The hotel was REALLY busy (August) - but more than able to deal with the throng. The room was modern and very comfortable, the bathroom and particularly the shower really good and the breakfast buffet (we were B&B only) excellent - good selection and plenty of it. The pool facility was a bit overloaded and could quite honestly do with a lick of paint, but the beach location is really spectacular and the view phenomenal. I would always pay that little bit extra for it. All staff helpful and friendly. A very very enjoyable holiday!
The best thing about my stay was...The location and the comfort of the bedroom

Alright Hotel but wouldn't go back
Michele, Dublin Ireland
Rooms/balconies quite small and quite dated but clean. Reception area/Bar (bit expensive though) & Restaurant very nice, breakfast very good variety and food excellent. Staff very pleasant. Would definitely recommend Sea View. Not very good sound proofing between rooms & sound echoes with Doors Closing. Parts of the hotel a little grubby, stairs and corridors and around pool areas not cleaned very well. Only one lift which can be a pain especially when you are on the fourth floor trying to get up or down with your luggage, can be waiting some time. Its a very quiet place and not really suitable for 20-30's looking for good nightlife. Suitable more for couples and Families. Enjoyed 5 days there but don't think i would return.
