New York Overview

New York, New York….
New York City is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the world. The city is the central hub for business, yet still provides a vast array of sights, attractions, shops, restaurants and shows that keeps tourists returning year after year. No matter your style, taste and budget, the city has something for everyone. Why not enjoy the stunning views of the city atop the Empire State Building, take a boat ride across to visit the Iconic Lady on Liberty Island or capture the beauty of Central Park on a horse drawn carriage ride. With so many hidden gems around every corner, a visit to New York City at any time of the year will never disappoint.

Taking a bite in the Big Apple
Eating out in New York can leave you spoilt for choice with a vast array of restaurants covering every cuisine and culinary expertise you could possibly dream of. Boasting to be the only revolving rooftop restaurant within the city, The View Restaurant at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, located on the 48th floor, provides a delicious set menu with stunning panoramic views, perfect as a pre theatre treat. For those wanting a bit of entertainment to accompany their meal, why not try the Session 73 Restaurant in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The restaurant offers a variety of music from salsa and popular modern day tunes throughout the week to live cover bands on Friday and Saturday night in addition to a social atmosphere and reasonably priced food. For those wishing to see as much as possible of this vibrant city, the typical fast food restaurants enable visitors to grab food on the go and can be found on nearly every street corner. A trip to New York cannot be complete without trying the famous New York Pizza. Offered at many local restaurants, this style of pizza originated in the early 1900’s and is renowned for its large, thin and foldable shape.

Not quite Night at the Museum…
The numerous attractions and sights on offer both day and night will never leave a visitor wandering what to do next. Breath taking views of the city can be admired from the observatory deck at the Empire State Building. From the 86th Floor (or for an extra fee the 106th floor) enjoy spectacular views of Manhattan and beyond. A top tip is to visit the observatory just before the evening’s sunset to see the city transform before your eyes from daytime to the dazzling nighttime delights. Alternatively, the ‘Top of the Rock’ (Rockefeller Centre) is often overlooked by tourists, yet the stunning views of Manhattan can be still be enjoyed from the 70th floor. A walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge is a must during the summer months. Completed in 1883, the walk across the bridge offers another perfect setting to take in the breathtaking skyscrapers from the Brooklyn neighbourhood. Central Park offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city with its contrast of natural flora and fauna to the skyscrapers in its backdrop. The 843 Acres offers a range of leisure activities as well as the Central Park carousel, Ice Skating Rink in the winter and romantic horse drawn carriage rides. If magnificent architecture is up your street then a trip to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum will not disappoint. The important landmark was completed in 1959 by Frank Lloyd Wright and houses over 700 pieces of art by 300 artists, with the building itself being the main attraction. Another famous Museum worthy of a visit is the Natural History Museum, located close to Central Park. The museum was founded in 1869 and houses exhibits spanning the world, including the Ocean, Dinosaurs and Space.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s…
Shopping in the Big Apple is truly an exceptional experience, with excellent exchange rates proving a good reason to hit the stores. Fifth Avenue offers the glamorous high end stores such as Versace, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Saks Fifth Avenue and Cartier, with the best of the shops located between 39th and 60th street. A trip into the fabulous Tiffany’s store to admire the beautiful jewellery and diamonds is a popular tourist choice, whatever your budget or why not take the children to the fabulous FAO Schwarz toy store to skate across the giant piano? If Fifth Avenue doesn’t quite satisfy your shopping needs, why not venture onto the luxurious Madison Avenue, between 57th street and 80th street. The historical avenue has maintained its character of providing upscale boutiques, jewelers and hair salons where both tourists and New Yorkers venture for a more extravagant shopping experience. A trip to Time’s Square is worthwhile for sightseeing but also for shopping. Famous stores such as Toys ‘R’ Us and Footlocker can be found along the bustling streets and provide a unique experience of shopping until the early hours of the morning.

The city that never sleeps….
Whilst many cities fall asleep once the sun goes down, New York City is only just warming up! Popular nightclubs, comedy clubs, lively bars and sights such as Times Square are just some of the evening entertainment that New York City can deliver to both tourists and New Yorkers alike. While the local hotspots constantly change in the fickle entertainment world, the Webster Hall Club in the East Village offers an impressive place to dance until the early hours with five dance floors to choose from and famous DJ’s often spinning on the decks. The Pacha Club NY, in the Hell’s Kitchen neighbourhood, offers a night to remember with its 3,500 square foot dance floor, open spaces and bikinied girls dancing in the shower booths. Alternatively, an evening spent in one of the numerous Comedy Clubs, such as the Broadway Comedy Club, will surely have you leaving with a smile on your face.
