Old Town (Royal Mile and Castle Area) Reviews

Edinburgh - wonderful in the sunshine - history, culture and great places to visit, eat and drink
Janette Rawlinson, Birmingham
Started in Grassmarket with a leisurely lunch at Gennaro's Italian and wandered the cobbled streets (Candlemaker Row) to Greyfriars (of Greyfriars' Bobby repute). Fascinating history, churchyard and views of the city. Small independent artisan shops selling a variety of products, crafts etc. Was there for university in George Square so this was an excellent introduction to the old town. Plenty of coffee bars, pubs, restaurants to stop and savour the view as the hills and cobbles can be a bit tiring if you're pulling a case or not so fit!
The best thing about my stay was ...
Great atmosphere and on a sunny day, excellent views, great heritage

best places to go
ursula scully, tipperary
royal oak for small pub with live session. the jam house appartently owned by jouls holland was a brilliant night out, Eight pound in but worth every penny great music and strictly over 25. Music is a live band with a lot of 80s 90s music. Gordons on the royal mile and the tower restaurant both excellent.
The best thing about my stay was ...
the jam house

What a Lovely city!
Lilybud25, Dublin, Ireland
This area of Edinburgh is so beautiful. Lots of side streets and laneways with fantastic pubs, shops, restaurants and quaint museums. The views of the castle and the Hub are to die for. The only issue that someone could have with it is that the area is quite hilly so flat comfortable shoes are a must.
The best thing about my stay was ...
The landscape of the area is definitely the best thing. The beautiful buildings/churches etc with the castle as a back drop is beautiful night and day

An elegant historic city in a modern setting
Gerry O'Byrne, Dublin
We toured around at speed as our w/end was short, but what we saw was from the red bus and was most impressive. The variety of architecture and the hidden alleys and closes just invite to be explored on foot but slowly when you are on in years like ourselves.
The best thing about my stay was ...
The impressive statue of John Knox with his back to all those pleasurable whisky bars and restaurants.
