Lara Holidays & Hotels

Hotels in Lara

With a reputation as Turkey’s Las Vegas, it won’t be surprising to hear that Lara has the accommodation options to match. Glitzy themed 5-star hotels sit alongside cheaper family resorts, giving various options for different budgets for every holidaymaker. Whichever you plump for, it’s rare to find any accommodation without a pool - something that tourists will be particularly grateful for in the warm summer heat.

Found south-east of Antalya, one of Turkey’s largest resort cities, Lara goes all-out when it comes to accommodation and entertainment. Everything is larger-than-life, including the beach which stretches round the coast for 12 kilometres.

Where to stay

Lara Beach

The luxury, high-end resorts that line Lara beach are visitors’ attractions in their own right; there’s one modelled around the Titanic, and another with a building that resembles a large temple. Many have private beach access, multiple private pools and spas, plus a number of on-site restaurants, meaning that you don’t even need to leave the resort on your holiday if you don’t want to.

Antalya Sand Sculpture Museum

The area to the east of this museum may be a 15-minute walk away from the beaches, but the accommodation options are more varied and a lot more affordable. Large chains sit alongside locally run, unassuming hotels, while there’s also a range of restaurants offering traditional Turkish meals for you to sink your teeth into.

Antalya

For a wider range of affordable accommodation, many holidaymakers opt to stay within the city. Antalya has many faces, with adjacent roads featuring everything from Roman ruins to museums and vibrant nightlife. Whilst it’s a 30-minute drive from Lara, Konyaalti Beach sits just a 14-minute drive in the opposite direction. The Old Town is also the place to be for bazaars and authentic Turkish charm.

What to see

The beach and its stylish 5* hotels are just one side of Lara; family-friendly spots such as Butterfly Park Antalya and Aksu Dolphinarium give kids the opportunity to get up close and personal with nature. Meanwhile, the open-air Antalya Sand Sculpture Museum offers gigantic professionally designed sculptures. It’s just as impressive at night as during the day, especially with colourful lights dotted around the designs to bring everything to life. Just west of Lara Beach is Düden river and waterfalls, where many people escape to as a break from city life. Head there by land or hop on a boat from Antalya’s harbour to see things from a different perspective.

For an authentic taste of Turkey, spend time exploring the streets of Kaleiçi old town in Antayla. Souvenir markets line the old, cobbled streets, alongside historical sites like Hadrian’s Gate and the old Roman harbour.

Nightlife

Much of the nightlife in Lara on holiday takes place within the resorts, with 24/7 live entertainment and multiple bars, restaurants and clubs to choose from. Before deciding which hotel to stay in, take a look at the on-site facilities available; many are all-inclusive so access to the bars will also be included.

Most hotels also offer transport into Antalya - otherwise, there’s a direct bus route into the city centre. In Antalya there are many more nightlife options, including thriving British pubs, cosy Turkish bars and karaoke.

What to eat

As well as high-end restaurants within the plush luxury hotels, there are also many eateries in the surrounding area. These include fast food restaurants, steak houses, Italian pizzerias and authentic Turkish diners. Be sure not to miss out traditional Turkish cuisine while on holiday, including delicious fresh seafood and grilled meats. Börek is also a tasty snack at all times of the day. They’re a savoury pastry filled with ingredients such as cheese or minced meat, and then popped into the oven.

Shopping

Whether you’re after a mid-afternoon snack or a holiday souvenir to take home to family, there are a range of shops that sit within the luxury Lara Beach resorts. Clear your head by taking a wander along the beachfront, taking a peek at the huge number of shops available. There’s also Myra shopping centre, Akkapark Shopping Mall, Manytana Outlet and the Sultan Bazaar Shopping Centre all within close proximity of each other, where it’s possible to pick up an enviable local bargain.

Lara Beach

Lara beach is a location full of four and five star hotels. It is very convenient for Antalya airport and a 15 minute transfer is not unusual. it is some way from the city of Antalya but busses are fairly frequent and most hotels also run an hotel bus service, a little more expensive but a lot faster.

OLD ROMANS TOWNS, BAZAARS AND MARINA

LARA IS THE BASE TO VISIT ANTALYA REGION. YOU HAVE TO RENT A CAR AND WITHIN ONE HOUR OF DRIVING TIME YOU MAY FIND MANY ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES, FALLS, CANYONS AND SMALL MOUNTAIN VILLAGES. IN THE CITY OF ANTALYA I SUGGEST YOU TO VISIT THE MARINA, THE BAZAARS (OLD AND NEW) AND HADRIAN'S GATE. IF YOU HAVE MORE TIME, DO NOT MISS PHASELIS, AN OLD ROMAN TOWN NEAR KEMER, WITH 3 NATURAL HARBOURS IN A WONDERFUL LOCATION, AND SIDE NEAR MANAVGAT, WITH GREAT RUINS AND A LOT OF SHOPS ALONG THE SMALL STREETS.

Big city but not crowded with tourists

Lara and Antalya is one of the bigger cities in Turkey, it is modern and full of shops and conveniences, yet it has fortunately not grown into the "plastic tourist resort" as for example Marmaris and Alanya have. Lara beach is big and long enough for everyone to stay there. Could do with a couple of restaurants and cafés in the beach area though. When we were there (October 2010) there was only one small coffee/sandwich shop. Adonis Hotel lies close to the sea, in the first row, but if you want to go to the real and sandy beach you have to take the dolmus. There is no bus in the same street as the hotel, but walk to the next parallel street (two minutes) and there will soon come a dolmus that takes you to Lara Beach. It takes 10-15 minutes on the bus. In front of the beach (where the bus stops) theres a public barbecue area (lots of Turkish families go there), playground and free showers.

Lara Beach Antalya

Not very much to do outside the hotel but as we were all inclusive it was not a problem. Everything we needed for a relaxing holiday was at the hotel. We did visit Antalya and we understand that there were places to visit nearby if required. Lara Beach was quiet and relaxing which is what we wanted on this holiday.

Around 30 minutes from Antalya Center and a variety of Shopping Malls

There is a Migros Supermarket located in Lara which is much cheaper than the surrounding hotel shops for inflatables & snacks. There are a variety of shops selling fake clothing & souvenirs within walking distance of most hotels. Buses are available to Antalya City, Terra City Shopping Mall, Deepo Outlet and Mall of Antalya opening soon.

Beach not a lot else

The beach is truly the best part of Antalya. It goes on for miles with a nice prom. There are free (yes free) sun loungers all along the beach provided by the town on a first come basis. But if you get to the beach after 11 you sit on the sand. I found it best to start early at 9 and go back to the hotel for lunch at 12 when it was too hot for me. You buy your own sun shade from a shop about £4 which you keep all week ( you do really need some form of sun protection)

nothing there!

Beach was lovley although part shingle - so a little sore on the feet! There are a few shops nearby - walk a bit further and there are shops in abundance. 1 downfall is there are no other restaurants or bars outside of the hotels -which is great if you are all-inclusive and are happy to stay in the resort all the time.
