Calis
The resort of Calis lies on a flat costal location framed by green mountains in the distance. The resort is ideal for those looking for a beach location in a small resort; the main street in the town is mainly walkers only with limited traffic access in peak seasons. Calis is ideal for beach loving families and couples looking for a quiet break in a great location. On a whole the resort is a peaceful retreat away from the stressed of daily life.

By the Beach...
Visiting the beach in Calis is a pleasant experience. Calis beach is a long narrow arc of dark sand and shingle and the bay offered shallow waters which are ideal for swimming. There is also a small range of water-sport on offer which will keep the kid’s entertained. If you visit Calis at the right time of the year you can be lucky enough to see the resident sea turtles come to shore and lay their eggs which is a truly magical experience.

A Break from the Beach
If you (or the kids) are fancy a break from the beach why not visit Sultan’s Aqua City Water Park, the park charges reasonable prices and makes an interesting change from the beach! For the bravest of visitors a trip of the Kamikaze is a must! This free fall slide will have adrenalin junkies satisfied! Remember there’s no need to get up early when visiting Sultan’s Aqua Park as its open until midnight every night in the summer! A trip to Turkey also isn’t complete without a famous Turkish bath and massage, which is a relaxing experience that guests won’t forget. There is also a small selection of shops in the resorts where souvenirs can be picked up but if you fancy a bit of bargain hunting why not visit the neighboring resort of Fethiye on a Tuesday when the large indoor market in held.

Eating and Drinking Out
Nightlife in Calis is low key and ideal for couples wanting a relaxed evening or families looking for a friendly and safe atmosphere for children. There’s a good selection of cocktail bars on the beachfront boulevard many of which have bay views. There is also an ample choice of restaurants some of the best choices include the popular Bambu restaurant which serves up delicious Turkish cuisine or the Serkul which is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Dalaman.

Low key resort

Calis has grown somewhat since I last visited 10 years ago, yet it is still a low key resort of mainly bar/restaurants and a few gift shops and mini supermarkets. However, you can easily go somewhere different everyday and try a new restaurant every night, without worrying about cost. A typical G&T costs 20-30 TLira and a good sized, filling main course from 30-50 TLira therefore £7-10 for both. The narrow beach stretches for miles and is mainly pebble/shingle with gently sloping sea edge. I would advice beach/plastic shoes for swimming paddling. On the municipal part of the beach, there is a small charge for sunbeds (about £2.50) but if you walk to one of the beach clubs, sunbeds are free if you buy something to eat or drink. (a large bottle of water will typically cost you 5 TLira) Most hotels also allow you to visit their pools if you purchase something. There is a small aqua park in the resort and a beautiful, newly completed play park, on the edge of Calis (Fethiye Bey Park) which has a fantastic array of play equipment and well worth a family visit. Water fountains also come on in the evening so take dry clothes if you have kids who will want to splash in them! Fethiye is in walking distance along the sea front from the park or can be accessed by water taxi from Calis at 10 TLira each way (approx £1.50). In Fethiye a Macdonalds and Starbucks can be found along side the pavement cafes, restaurants, market style shops and a harbour.(no beach) There are no high rise buildings in the area or huge hotels and it is a much better option to eat out- all inclusive seems pointless to me in this area. The promenades are paved and flat and some bars have entertainment free of charge however at midnight everything closes other than perhaps your hotel bar. This is a pretty resort with beautiful views across to Fethiye and the Taurus Mountains.

THE BAR STAFF SHOULD LEARN HOW TO MAKE COCKTAILS

We had a nice stay at the Remer. It is ideally situated, close to the beach and local transport. The breakfast was typically Turkish and nice. The evening meal was, repetitive and the main course was static - no choice. The rooms are dated but very clean. Bathrooms very small. pool very nice but difficult to get into as there are no handrails or ladders. NOT suitable for older people or children. The waiting staff were lovely. The barman cannot make cocktails to save himself. Six of us had Margerita's and ALL of us complained - they were terrible. Silly man forgot to put in the Cointreau OR DID HE?????? Music and karaoke went on until very late despite there being a law about no loud music after midnight. The barman would have sung until the next morning and he was duff! Get a room at the back of the hotel if you want a sleep at a decent time or book somewhere else. Location excellent.

The best thing about my stay was ...
