Changing times

Sousse, what can one say, its dirty, smelly but we love it!! Shopping in the Medina is fun, especially the bargaining. You have to be tough to survive a visit, all the time you are being approached to visit the traders shops. If you do go in and do not buy something, the comments as you leave are not very nice. However its typical Souk trading. The beach is very nice, sandy and relatively clean, miles of it from the Corniche to Port El Khantoui. You do get pestered by sellers on the beach, Cigarettes (do not buy), Fruit, Baubles etc. There are a number of bars outside of your hotel. Claridge is very good. Palace bar is ok if you sit outside. Big Cafe/Bar at the Boujafaar hotel is very popular. There is a lot more begging this time. particularly in the town centre. Also the girls are covering up more than I have seen on past visits. Whether this is voluntary or not I do not know. The Grand Mosque in the Medina is well worth a visit as is the Museum at the top of the Medina. Taxi's continue to be a problem, although cheap, they are always trying to rip the punter off. Always insist on the meter being put on in the Taxi.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The friendly welcome from the majority of the people one meets.

Building sites everywhere

Sousse is quite a nice old town with a lot off new development happening plenty of eateries if you like Pizzas and fast food few good places to eat at most Hotels but you have to be patient as it quite a while before you receive what you ordered ( to let people think they are busy) plenty of pests trying to lure you into following them to a Festival or some other stall to buy goods best tell them to B----- off tried all the Merci NO! jargon but it hardly worked. Everybody with hardly an exception were very, very friendly and helpful , went on a train to Tunis which was OK but the pollution was appalling Plastic bags everywhere and stuck to most bushes and trees. All in All it was an experience but not for us

Not a relaxin g place go elsewhere

Not safe to go out at night due to groups of thugs hanging round waiting to rob you, would never return to Tunisia, been 4 times before but now has changed too much for the worse.
