Patong is the most popular and developed resort with tourists in Phuket. The resort is famous for its wild nightlife and “backpacker” atmosphere is does have a look more to offer than clubs and pubs. However Patong is best suited to younger guests looking for a lively and diverse night scene with the option to laze away days on the beach in the glorious Thai sun.
A bit of culture...
For a bit of culture is Patong visitors should try and make time for a visit to the Wat Suwan Khiri Wong (Patong Temple) which is the local centre for Buddhism and is a beautifully maintained and stunning example of local culture and architecture. Close-by to Patong and worth a visit is the Kathu Mining Museum but be warned most of the informative signs are in Thai so booking an excursion with a guide makes your visit a lot more interesting!
Patong is famous for its nightlife and it is not difficult to work out why with a great variety of activities to suit all tastes. Much of the nightlife is Patong is located around the bustling Bangla Road but remember a night out in Patong isn’t for the feint-hearted and the nightlife is quite raunchy with go-go girls dancing around poles and trying to entice male customers into bars. Patong also has quite a liberal attitude to homosexual travellers and much of the nightlife is catered to the gay market. The My Way Cabaret is a lavish transvestite cabaret show and there are a good number of bars which offer gay-friendly nights out.
The Rodeo Drive of Patong
Thailand is famous for its dressmaking and tailoring service and if you want to get a handmaid suit or dress or whatever else takes your fancy there really is nowhere better to visit than Instyle Fashion Bespoke Tailors. Though prices aren’t dirt cheap for the price you are paying the tailors at the shop will recreate designer suits and styles for a fraction of the price you would pay at home while still maintaining the quality. For those who like to shop till they drop a trip to the Jungceylon Shopping Centre comes highly recommended, this recently opened fully air-conditioned centre boasts over 200 hundred shops and is the ideal place to pick up souvenirs.
Everybody was Kung-Fu Fighting...
For those who enjoy sports why not plan a visit to the Thai boxing known locally as Muay Thai. Matches can be viewed nightly in a number of purpose built stadiums on the Soi Sai Namyen. The sport is violent so squeamish guests or people who don’t like violence should stay well clear. The sport is nothing like traditional boxing as kicking and elbowing are both permitted. The sport is extremely popular throughout Thailand and is a good insight to local culture.

Not cheap but good fun for everyone. Sellers of cheap rubbish goods are a bit of a pain but just say no.
The best thing about my stay was ...
It's a very friendly place
