Loh Dalam Overview

Loh Dalum
Loh Dalum is set on the opposite side of Tonsai Bay, yet only 150 metres from it and an easy stroll through the village with its shops and resorts. A large Banyan tree marks the spot between Loh Dalum Bay and Tonsai Bay, and Tonsai Village sits between the two, just a short walk from Loh Dalum Beach. The atmosphere is completely different from its busy neighbour and is almost totally secluded. Breathtakingly beautiful, a chorus of birdsong can be heard all year round and the soft white sands are lapped by shallow, calm, turquoise water heated by the sun to almost bath temperature, where you can wade out hundreds of metres and still only be waist deep in water.
The long golden sands of the bay end with the eastern cliffs of Phi Phi Don, so the sunset is at the Phi Phi Viewpoint end, as the cliffs block the low rays in the early evening.
The beach is lined with deckchairs to rent and in the middle of the beach is Phi Phi Princess Hotel with its infinity edge pool, raised up from the beach giving spectacular views of the bay and its surroundings. Toilets can be found on the beach, although 5-10 baht is the expected 'donation' to use them. There is precisely one shop on the beach itself, close to Ciao Bella restaurant, selling sun cream, drinks, ice cream, postcards and beach stuff; so get your shopping done in Tonsai.

Dining out on Loh Dalum is definitely linked with the nightlife, as the several restaurants are sprinkled between the bars, and fire dancers entice you in, providing a show whether you want it or not! Be prepared for a leisurely experience though, as beach dining is unhurried and relaxed. Be sure to pack mosquito spray as well, as from early evening onwards the mosquitoes are vicious along this beach.
Ciao Bella, with its Italian chef, has a cool hut bar just metres from the sea and you can sit and watch the volley ball. Tables are nicely spaced, lending privacy and the food is nicely done, although it’s far from being the cheapest on the island.

Loh Dalum is where everybody goes to hang out if they are not on a diving, snorkelling or kayak trip and there are some easy going, simple day bars. With a more laid back approach to nightlife, many people continue lazy days on the beach into the night. It is also more of a late night venue so venturing out too early is a no go. The Stones Bar has a chilled vibe, with candles in the sand and Thai cushions to enjoy a chilled beer, as well as a neon lit pool table and laser beams shooting out over the bay.
Apache Beach Bar has a simple setup with sports on the TV and an outside stage for fire dancers, while Beach Bar can be found under a big banyan tree and serves pretty good food, as well as ornate lamps hanging from overhead branches, adding a romantic touch. Sunflower is also great for romantic moments, as its set right at the end of the beach, offering an exclusive, almost private setting at the Viewpoint end of Loh Dalum Beach, ideal for watching the sunsets. Occasional live music can also be enjoyed, as well as a permanent chilled feel, sometimes until past dawn.
Ibiza Bar is a livelier venue, with fire dancers, ambient music and cushions to sprawl out on. Food is simple so it is best to eat at one of the neighbouring restaurants and come here later on for a dance in the sand. Visitors are unfortunately to be warned though, as despite its popularity the bar has a reputation as being dangerous, so more caution is needed later at night. Slinky Bar is also one of the biggest bars in Loh Dalum, providing elaborate lighting, a guitarist in the early evening, special drinks deals and several seating options with more of a bar like atmosphere.
