Great city for a weekend of tapas and wine and culture

I've visited for 2 weekends and there's plenty to do - good museums (Belles Artes is my favourite), fantastic aquarium in the University campus and lots of tapas bars and restaurants. The Cathedral is stunning and there was a religious parade when we visited last - reminded me how Catholic a European city can be! Los Zigales was great tapas - don't order too much too soon - you can always order more! Also the Vinoteca had great salads, cheeses and cured meats.

The best thing about my stay was ...

small and compact - lots to see and great choice of tapas

Regional city with attractive old town

We were visiting Murcia City mostly on business, if it was solely for a holiday, we would have chosen a different location on the coast. However, that said, Murcia is quite pleasant with an attractive old town which includes an impressive baroque cathedral and several interesting museums (some displays in English.) There are several nice squares for al fresco dining. Murcia is nice to wander around for a day but you quickly see all the sights so a longer stay might not hold your interest for too long. There are a wide range of bus connections from the main bus station and we did day trips to Torrevieja and Alicante from there.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The Old Town
