The beautiful city of Granada lies in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia and is situated at the foot hills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The city enjoys a pleasant climate with dry hot summers and mild winters ideal for those seeking a winter city break. The city of Granada has been inhabited by many from the Phoenicians, Carthagenians and Greeks to the Moors which invaded the city in the 8th Century and gave the city its current name of Granada and as imagined the city is steeped in history and ancient landmarks. Whilst in Granada a visit to the city’s jewel attraction is not too be missed, the impressive La Alhambra which consists of a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th Century, and within the grounds lies the beautiful summer palace named the Generalife, a stroll around the fountains and gardens is a must. Another attraction within Granada which is worth a visit is the old Moorish casbah named Albaicin, with its fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and whitewashed houses which lay on the hillside facing the Alhambra Palace. Visitors to the city will find plenty to do and see, ski in the Sierra Nevada or simply stroll around the city whilst admiring the historic landmarks. Granada is an ancient and mysterious city which is the perfect choice for a magical city break in Spain.

A marvellous destination, steeped in history

Granada, dominated by the world-famous Alhambra perched high on a hill with the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains behind it, is, without a shadow of doubt, one of the most beautiful and atmospheric cities in the world. Its world-class art and architecture are matched by great dining and drinking options, most at very reasonable prices for Europe. One can easily spend a week exploring its many attractions.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Wonderful location, stunning art & architecture, great food and drink

Great City

Lots of sightseeing available however this was our 3rd visit to Granada and we saw a different side to the city great for shopping, bars and restaurants. The people are so friendly. Would advise to move away from the main tourist areas for the best tapas bars.

lively, young and cheap!

Granada is an amzing city, there is tonnes on offer and lots to do. The city is vibrant with people, there is always a good crowd wherever you go and eating in the city is extremely cheap! In addition, the city has a lot of history and cultural places to visit, the Alhambra is not to be missed, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing as it is huge and took us mroe then 4 hrs to see most of it, there were still lots of parts of the Alhambra that we didn't get to see.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The free tapas given with every drink and the Alhambra palaces

A LOVELY MEDIUM SIZED CITY

THE SIERRA NAVADA MOUNTAIN RANGE MAKES A SUPBERB BACKDROP TO THIS LOVELY CITY, EVEN IN THE SUMMER MONTHS. MANY OF THE BUILDINGS ARE OF THE TRADITIONAL ANDALUCIAN STYLE, WITH COLOURS AND CHARACTER OF THE REGION. THERE ARE MANY STREETS TO JUST WONDER AND OF COURSE THE ALHAMBRA PALACE IS A MUST FOR FIRST TIME VISITORS.

The best thing about my stay was ...

IT IS A MEDIUM SIZED CITY, SO EASY TO EXPLORE

A lively city made a must to visit in order to see the Alhambra.

Granada is a lively and vibrant city. The Alhambra is a must. We would also recommend a visit to the Science Park which is a really interesting place and excellent value for money. An excellent place for tapas is La Buena Vida on Almireceros - freindly owner and delicious food!

Manageable sightseeing

A compact city centre making sightseeing very manageable, especially with the frequent minibuses taking visitors up all the steep slopes to the Alhambra and the viewpoints opposite. One tip though, make sure you book your entrance ticket to the Alhambra well in advance at busy holiday times. A good holiday read would be 'The Return' by Victoria Hislop.

Granada is still very Spanish and a delight

Pretty city with good restaurants and shops. Lovely to walk around if you are mobile enough. Cathedral is spectacular. Didn't get in to the Alhambra because we didn't book. Good reason to go back.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Delightful squares and passageways.

Granada

We came primarily to visit the Alhambra and were not disappointed. We walked up to it in the early morning and back down late afternoon, though you can take a bus or taxi. Don't be put off by people who say you have to book months in advance - you don't. Just get there at opening time and pay at the entrance. It was not too crowded in early July as schools not yet on holiday and apparently Spanish people don't go then because of the 34 degree heat. Heat manageable because lots of shade trees, fountains and free drinking-water fountains. Granada otherwise lively and noisy. Good dining al fresco watching the world go by. Tourist guide in uniform very helpful with directions and parking.

Certainly worth a visit if in this area

Granada Palace is certainly worth visiting, would recommend booking tickets before your visit as it can be very busy in the summer season. Nice town to have a look round, found 2 days were adequate to get a feel of the city.

Great city

We visited Granada primarily to see the Alhambra and we were not disappointed. It was amazing. We were also impressed with Granada city, especially the old town. The new area is much the same as any other city with designer shops etc.
