best time to visit

If you can visit calpe outside of the high summer season, then it becomes a a great place to promenade, with the obvious penon as a challenge. The salt lake with the flamingoes is a pleasant place to spend a relaxing half hour.

The best thing about my stay was ...

the long promenade.

Attractive resort for all ages

I had heard a lot about Calpe over the years but had ever stayed there. It is made by the views of and from the 'Penon' rock which you can climb by a well maintained path through a national park with breathtaking views up and down the coast, over the town and inland. Most as we did give up the climb at the 'tunnel', beyond which the path is marked as and looks dangerous! Otherwise Calpe is a typical Spanish summer resort with lots of bars and restaurants, gets quieter in the winter. Calpe is in the Marina Alta region with a free touring guide available from the helpful tourist office. One enchanting discovery for us was a little bay called El Portlet with white villas and restaurants with a wonderful view down the coast, just beyond the also attractive town of Moraira.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Views of and from the 'Penon' rock

Calpe is special

I stay in the Esmeralda the farthest away hotel from the town centre, but Calpe town is still only a 45 minute walk, if you are up for it. I feel safe here as a solo traveller. Buses are frequent and there are about 3 buses a day from outside the hotel direct to the airport without changing. I dont come across noisy boisterous holidaymakers, everybody seems to appreciate the peace in the area, though i only travel there October to February and never in the summer months.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The scenery and air of peace and calm.

Calpe resort review

We're just back from 10 days in Calpe in mid-July. It was our first time there and we really enjoyed it. Weather was great - low 30s during the day with a cooling breeze, and warm evenings - and beaches were sandy and safe, if crowded (though by mid-afternoon the pressure eases). We stayed on Arenal beach, nearest the old town, with a good selection of bars and restaurants (cafeteria Arenal does a 3 course menu that is excellent value and quality) that were busy in early evening but quieter after 11pm. Playa Fossa, about a mile away, was busier at night and has a wider selection of restaurants (we particularly liked Minarete and Regata). Jardin 2016 nearer the rock of Ifach is a lovely little bar with excellent staff. The Rock of Ifach is worth a climb for the views. You can get as far as the tunnel (about half way up) with just sensible shoes or sandals (not flip flops) ; beyond that point it's a lot tougher and quite risky. Do it in the morning before the het gets up, and bring water.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The beach at Arenal and the evening buzz of Fossa

Calpe resort August 2017

Lovely little town with some beautiful views over the Med. lots of bars and restaurants to choose from and a visit to the cobbled streets of the old town for a bite to eat is a must. Trained service to Benidomr if you fancy a visit. Quite a family and couple orientated resort. Very enjoyable resort.

Lovely Beach

From what I saw there doesn't seem to be much to Calpe itself, however you central to many other places to visit such as Benedorm, Javea etc. The sandy beach is lovely and gently slopes into the sea which is great for children. It is rather built up with high rise apartments and hotels but it is very clean.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Good beach, good location stay at if you wish to visit other areas as well.
