Almeria
Almeria City is situated in the south east of Spain and this area is renowned for being the hottest region in Andalucia. The city is about 5 minutes from the airport. Still relatively unknown, this peaceful spot has unspoilt beaches, desert scenery and plenty of history and architecture to absorb in the city itself. The area is well used for the filming of many Hollywood movies due to its arid landscape, and all its main resorts and beaches are purpose built for tourism.
Who should go?
Because this area has only recently been discovered by most tourists, it is one of the quietest regions of Spain, with low-key nightlife. Ideal for older couples looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday away from the main tourist areas.
alpharooms.com suggests
Experience the amazing views from Alcazaba fortress, overlooking Almeria city. You can find Yucca City about 16 miles away in the village of Tabernas, which has been the set for many spaghetti western films. It is open daily to visitors and makes a great day out.

8/10 Great

Lovely city with Arabian influences, tourist sights, good shopping, transport and nightlife.

Visit alcazaba (castle/palace), cathedral (converted palace) and wonder around the tapas bars in the historic area. Best nightlife is around Plaza de San Pedro, cheapest and most authentic tapas bars are further away from city centre, for example near to the bull ring. Buses at no. 10 and 20-26 stops in Bus Station leave every 30 and 15 mins respectively for Marquetas/Las Marinos and Algadulce (cost is less than 2 Euro per trip). Perfect for a city break.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Top tourist sights, lively tapas based nightlife and relatively cheap

A busy city but nice to wonder around

Almeria has a more industrial look than other south Spanish towns but it's very lively, there's plenty of places to shop or eat out, there are fountains on every third corner, and they have a nice fortress and a very large sandy beach.
