Lovely place

At first, we didn't notice any other English-speaking holiday makers and thought it was quiet place for the more mature holiday maker, but a couple of days in we found a Mexican restaurant in the city centre, the meal was lovely and then the waiter brought us 2 free cocktails and 3 free shots of tequila without us asking for them. The next day we were looking for a club, couldn't find the one we wanted but then we found a complex of bars/restaurants and clubs at the harbour. It was very busy and fun, and we did lots of dancing. A couple of days later we went back for a quiet cocktail and ended up making friends with some of the locals and dancing around in the coyote ugly bar after it had closed-which was playing indie/rock/60s music. There is a row of restaurants right by a market that you can go to if you don't fancy going into the city.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Variety of shops, restaurants, bars, clubs. Nice beach.

Lovely city - a great break

We found Alicante to be a beautiful place. It's actually much larger than we had imagined but really lovely. While we were there we visited other towns on the Costa Blanca - Villajoyosa and Elda. Villajoyosa was well worth the time taken and we visited the Valor chocalate factory which was great. Elda is not quite as pretty as Villajoyosa but was enjoyable none the less. We did find that the bars were closing early - perhaps this was becaus it was late in the year (third week of October). Because a lot of Spanish people holdiay in Alicante it's quite difficult to find restaurants serving a good variety of food. The majority are tapas bars and if this is not your cup of tea you have to wander to find something more international.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The beautiful promenade - it contains six million tiles!!!

Alicante is beautiful, everday you find some hidden place you hadn't seen before!

The city itself is a mixture between old, seminew and new architectures, which make it a city of contrasts. If you don't climb all the little streets up to the 'casco antiguo' (the ancient borough) you will think it's all about big and high buildings and some skyscaper. But if you go up there, you'll be facing the true soul of Spanish people, making siesta outside their doors, and starting to chat with everybody passes by, just out of curiosity. The beach just at the end of the main roads (Playa del Postiguet) is ok but a bit too crowded, but coming from a coastal area myself I'm probably not the best reviewer for a beach. For a quiter beach and a much more beautiful water, we headed to the village of El Campello, which is really worth a visit.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The climate and the friendliness of the people, together with the food, are certainly the best things there!
