Galway City began as a small fishing village centred around the estuary of the River Corrib and is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe, becoming the third largest city in the Republic of Ireland after Dublin and Cork. Galway city is unique due to the strength of its Irish language, often referred to as the 'Bilingual Capital of Ireland’ with Irish theatre, music, song and dancing traditions, as well as TV production and Irish music all an integral part of Galway city life. Galway City is a vibrant place and boasts a diversity of culture and a cosmopolitan atmosphere, filled with entertaining street life and many things to see and do, with music, festivals, horse racing, the Saturday market, shops, theatres, the Cathedral, the docks and the University combining to create this mediaeval city of culture.

Great city - but very busy

Galway is always great to visit but it was particularly busy this time - a lot of traffic and often difficult to find car parking. Clamping going on in main shopping centre car parks seemed mean-spirited. Not much for kids in Galway - but Salthill is not far away.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Great seafood meals

Car Park Galway

Galway is a wonderful city if only you could get into it. The traffic situation morning noon and night is horrendous. Once you get into Galway the parking is very limited and expensive.
