Experience the Algarve, plenty to do and see

Tavira is a small town approximately 40-45 mins from Faro. The town is on the Ria Formosa so access to the beach is via local ferry. The towns is cobbled streets, with many restaurants, shops and cafes selling local produce. Restaurant Bica was our favourite, but many to choose from. Lovely walks nearby or pick up a bus/train to experience other towns and villages along the eastern Algarve. We walked to Cabanas and got a local train back, walked to Santa Luzia and got the train to Vila Real Santo Antonio and picked up the ferry across to Ayamonde in Spain. Lots of lovely streets to walk around or just spend lazy days sipping wine and eating locally produced food. There are a few more pubs than there were the last time we stayed with some resotrative building work going on in the town centre. Beautiful architecture! It was our second visit to Tavira and we'll definitely go back.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Relaxing, quaint with plenty of choices for places to eat and drink.

Tavira - a beautiful place

What a beautiful place for a trip to Portugal, still relatively unspoilt by the beer and breakfast brigade. A little something for everyone here, several beaches within drive or boatride distance, a large nightclub or two & lots of bars with friendly faces. There are some great restaurants dotted about & why not go and see Danni and Nick at the Riverside Bar if you do miss a homely meal or want some advice on good restaurants & bars etc

The best thing about my stay was ...

Its just a gorgeous place

Tavira and Cabanas have it all.

We stayed in an apartment in Cabanas about a 5 minute drive from Tavira. Cabanas is a lovely fishing village that really has a lot to offer. Plenty of restaurants serving great Portuguese food. A lovely waterfront and across the Ria Formosa the most fabulous beach imaginable. Tavira is a busy and beautiful small city with lots and lots of churches, restaurants and bistro type places to eat. Put the two places together and you have everything you could want in a holiday destination.

Loved Tavira!

Lovely town, not too touristy with some proper Portuguese old charm to it! Fabulous seafood, particularly loved the restaurant Bistro oPorto run by a fantastic French chef whose cooking and use of fresh, organic ingredients is to die for! Excellent service in a small, classy setting! Tavira is lovely for strolls through the pretty squares and over the bridges. I would say it is more ideal for couples who enjoy good food and a bit of culture rather than families as I didn't see that much in the way of entertainment for children. Highly recommended!

The best thing about my stay was ...

Genuine Portuguese town, not too touristy!

Tavira, a gem we hope not too many people find.

This is our 4th visit to Tavira, so we know where we like to go and where to eat. We stayed at the the Vila Gale Tavira this time and were at the opposite end of the town from our previous visits. My husband finds walking difficult, and this time we seemed to be further away from our usual haunts. We did find some new eating places, just as good as all the others. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Tavira, you are spoilt for choice. Rarely are we disappointed. We were nearer the ferry to the beach this time, but it is still a hike for him when you get off the boat. It is well worth the trip though. Tavira is a gem, mostly unspoilt with a variety of nationalities as well as locals everywhere you go. A wonderful place to really feel you have had a foreign holiday, without having to go too far. Fully inclusive would be such a waste of a wonderful town with all it has to offer.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The restaurants, the people, the beach and the general 'chill out' atmosphere.

Tavira town

Lovely town of historical interest. Plenty of restaurants & bars for a meal or quick snack. Not as pricey as some of the more well known resorts along the coast. Perfect if you are wanting a break away from it all at a quiet pace but not for those who want discos and night clubs although there are these in Tavira but not many. Good for children as it is peaceful and safe. Plenty of places to book trips to the water parks and attractions further along the coast

The best thing about my stay was ...

Tavira itself and the people
