Lisbon, Portugal’s capital city, is situated on the right-hand bank of the Tagus river and is known for its distinctive light conditions, which have drawn the attention of countless artists and photographers. With its beautiful architectural treasures and striking modern structures, from the classical Baixa district, built in 1755 with its surrounding medieval neighbourhoods to the contemporary Parque das Nações, built for Expo ’98, Lisbon is the perfect place for pleasant city walks and sight-seeing. The city also provides the ideal base for a cruise along the Tagus or for visiting other locations along the Esotoril Coast such as the picturesque town of Sintra, designated as a World Heritage site.

Lisbon offers a wide range of beautiful buildings and unique localities with plenty of green spaces , neo-classical architecture as well as,old rambling streets and lanes. It has a very open aspect with a wide promenade along the river Tagus and plenty of reminders of its rich maritme history.

Lots to do, plenty of good restaurants & cafes, must try the custard tarts. Didn't feel too crowded as there are lots of spacious squares to sit in. Visits to the castle & Belem are recommended.

Fantastic city!

We love Lisbon. This was our second visit to this great city and we will definately be returning. This time we took our 7 month old daughter and getting around with the pram was very easy, even getting on and off the metro was no problem - apart from the odd lift being out of order & having to carry her and the pram up 3 flights of stairs!!

The best thing about my stay was ...

The people, the accessability and the shopping!!

Hilly lisbon

Lots and lots of really steep hills with cobbles everywhere make it a dificult place for those who have dificulty walking. Nice city and must be one of the cheapest in Europe. I found it relaxing if a tad neglected in places, however very interesting. A day trip to Sintra is a must, amazing place with stunning palaces and great views. Good beaches nearby.

Historic, beautiful city with great transport service

Historic city, with beautiful architecture. Walks along the river bank are pleasant. Food, particularly sea produce is fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. People are helpful, friendly, decent and not at all loud. Public transport is really well organised and easy to use. The city was clean. Main attraction points were Chiado, parks, particularly Gulbenkian, castle, Estoril coast. The hop on and hop off bus is great for sight seeing.
