Coimbra Hotels and Apartments
Coimbra is an old university town, and is of great historical importance within Portugal. The university was first founded in the 13th century - making it one of the oldest in the world - and the large numbers of current students help give the town its vibrant atmosphere. This is not your typical "sun, sea and sand" holiday destination, but there are plenty of magnificent buildings around the cobbled streets and museums full of art and history. Hotels are the main form of accommodation for the visitor and there are some lovely cafes, bars and restaurants.
Who should go?
This destination is a great way of experiencing some of the real Portugal, easily enjoyed by those who are prepared to take the time to walk around exploring what's on offer.
Visit Velha Universidade, the university that overlooks this town, and view its stately library. For a day trip slightly out of town, a visit to see Portugals finest Roman ruins at Conimbriga is a must.

We love Coimbra and the surrounding area and have been coming here for 17 years. It is rich in history and the university culture peremiates the city atmosphere with the traditions of the past overlapping the modern age.
