Lively, laid-back, romantic Palermo!

Palermo is a brilliant city to visit. It's lively, laid-back and romantic at the same time. Great for shopping, lots of cosy little restaurants, and lovely slow walks.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The squares-piazza

Hotel we stayed in was clean and friendly but we booked half board and had to go to another hotel 10 minutes walk away for evening meal. We stayed for a week but until the last night we were not offered a choice of food. It was merely set in front of us until I pointed out that I really didn't like fish! The food was not particularly good even when they managed to swap fish for something else i.e. pasta with anchovies (I was offered minestrone soup). The soup consisted of the different vegetables that we had had the last few nights. They were overcooked when we first received them, they were a complete mush as minestrone. Furthermore, the liquid they were in looked like the water they had been boiled in, nothing added for flavour. We booked half board because my partner is disabled. After wandering around during the day he doesn't always want to go anywhere else. We also had in mind that half board usually means a buffet where you can choose what you want. Although the hotel was good we were right beside a so-called market. The streets were full of litter and there was dogs mess in the areas around the hotel. The youngsters gathered in this market area in the evening and it was sometimes very noisy into the small hours of the night. There doesn't seem to be any tours except the city sightseeing tour bus which would have been 20 euros each. The main shops were 15 minutes walk from the hotel, but being designer shops, were very expensive. All in all, we found Palermo very disappointing and would definitely not return there in the future.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Ice-cream shops and bakeries
