Bologna is a large city in the Emilia-Romagna in Italy. Bologna is striking and you may notice that most of the city is built under porticoes or covered walkways, which help in the rain. This was because it was considered a service to the town. Bologna is considered a great place to eat and has one of the largest markets in Europe. The best sights in Bologna are: Basilica di San Petronio (church), Museo della Storia di Bologna, Pinacoteca Nazionale (art gallery), Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio and the Palazzo Comunale. Why not take one of the private tours around the city or visit one of the city’s parks and gardens.

10/10 Amazing

A great place for a weekend away

If you love history, architecture and food/wine this is the place for you. The museums especially the archeological and medieval were great, both had a 5 euro admission fee. The squares, churches and civic buildings are all worth a visit. There are so many restaurants to choose from, the best being tucked into little side streets and only visible when you approach. I particularly liked the Restaurant Nino just off the via Indepenza, near the cathedral. Worth a walk around is the university district and there is an oratory on the way which was a highlight of my trip. The locals were all very helpful and obliging. Because it was August, the town was fairly quiet, the locals go on holiday to the sea at this time and therefore some of the shops were closed.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Eating al fresco in an historical atmosphere

Lovely city. Great architecture. Gorgeous food shops and restaurants. Perfect train connections with other cities. We went to Ferrara and Florence. Worth every penny.
