Laganas Holidays & Hotels

Hotels in Laganas

Laganas is located on the pretty south-eastern side of the popular Greek island of Zante (also known as Zakynthos). It’s a busy, buzzing town with a thriving night scene and appeals mostly to young groups of tourists and anyone seeking for some lively fun in the sun.

Laganas offers a fantastic range of different types of accommodation, with everything from wallet-friendly self-catering apartments and studios to larger all-inclusive hotels. Despite its reputation for partying, Laganas is a welcoming and friendly place that’s ideal for families too, especially those with teenagers.

With its awesome array of shops, restaurants and nightclubs, plus of course the amazing golden sandy beach and turquoise sea, Laganas has plenty going for it whatever you’re looking for.

Where to stay

Laganas Beach

Laganas beach is a huge, sandy bay with crystal clear, warm and shallow waters. Most of the accommodation in Laganas is centred around here and it’s the most busy and developed beach in Zante. The beach is very organised with sunbeds and umbrellas to rent. From the beach you can also visit Cameo, a private tiny “island” that is connected to Laganas via a wooden bridge. Unspoilt and very pretty, here you’ll also find umbrellas and sunbeds to hire as well as a beach bar for a refreshing snack or drink.

Just 3km away from the centre of Laganas you’ll find the far quieter resort of Kalamaki. Well-loved for its huge sandy beach and warm, shallow waters it’s actually part of Laganas Bay and is part of the National Maritime Park of Zakynthos. Protected by Greek legislation, Kalamaki beach is one of very few areas where endangered Loggerhead turtles lays their eggs and is perfect for pulling up a sunbed and forgetting everything at home.

Kalamaki is ideal for romantic couples holidays or for young families, as it’s close enough to Laganas and Zante Town for a bit of lively fun but it’s also a peaceful resort that still has plenty of amenities.

What to see

The Laganas shoreline is a beautiful 5-kilometre stretch of soft bright yellow sand shelving gently into the bright blue waters of the Ionian Sea. Although it’s a busy beach with plenty going on, there aren’t any watersports here except pedalos so that the loggerhead turtles remain protected. If you’re looking to escape the beach bars and noise here, walk in a westerly direction along the sand towards Agois Sostis, where the mood is rather more relaxed and sedate.

While you’re here, why not explore the coastline on a boat trip and see the loggerhead turtles as they make their way from Africa right across to Zante to lay their eggs. If you dream of seeing them in their natural habitat, it’s well worth going on a glass-bottom boat trip to Turtle Island (called Marathonisi) just a few minutes away. For those feeling adventurous, on the way back to Laganas you’ll have the chance to snorkel through the amazing sea caves at Keri village.

Laganas is packed with a massive range of bars, restaurants and nightclubs perfect for dancing the night away and having a good time. The main road through the town - known as “The Strip” - is Zante’s most notorious party zone, with back-to-back bars and flashing neon lights galore. A couple of nightspots that are worth checking out are Rescue and Plus Club, both of which are some of Greece’s biggest nightclubs outside of Athens, offering super-charged sound systems and buzzing dancefloors. And if you still fancy partying long after the early hours, there are plenty of afterparties on the beach to keep you going until dawn.

What to eat

If your idea of heaven is a large dose of Greek island cuisine, come away from the strip and make your way along Kalamaki Road. Here you can find plenty of beautiful Greek tavernas offering a delicious flambéd lamb kleftico, complete with a delicious Mediterranean side salad and the fattest, juiciest olives you’ve ever seen. But if that’s not quite your thing there are plenty of alternatives back in central Laganas too, whether it’s a mixed grill, fish and chips, yummy seafood or a good old full English, nobody’s going to go hungry! Then finish off your meal with a shot or two of fiery raki.

Once you’ve finished lounging around why not head off for some souvenir shopping. The main strip is alive with shops offering a range of leather goods, including faux designer handbags, cheerful Greek island trinkets and pretty handmade jewellery. If you love a spot of Greek cooking at home yourself, head to one of the many supermarkets for bottles of local spirits such as tsipouro or ouzo, or some delicious virgin olive oil fresh from the vine.

Beautiful sandy beach

Couldn't wish for more with this sandy beach and easy access to the sea. Plenty of beach tavernas to chose from, all offering competitive prices for food and drinks. All the boat trips are good but for 10 Euros for 1 hour, you will see turtles swimming and get a chance to take photographs. A visit to the nearby island, accessed by a wooden bridge is a must. It costs 4 Euros entry, but this includes a drink at the beach bar.

I found the place had the perfect balance. There was plenty to do during the day and the night life was second to none! Everyone we met was extremely welcoming friendly and even the restaurant workers and promotion staff were not pushy but seemed to want to get to know you. Everything was also very affordable, from the food to the nightlife, value for money always seemed to be a priority. Would definitely return to what I can only describe as one of the best holidays Ive ever been on.

laganas is a wicked place to go for group of young people as you have the lively strip where there are always a range of events going on, as well as having the gorgeous weather and beaches where you can do things such as turtle spotting, and go out on pedalos/motor boats. their are various boat trips and day trips which can be booked, including a day trip to the water paark, which was definatly worth 24euros. we went at the start of the season and enjoyed every night out, however, felt that some events may have been slightly over priced. the only negative is that every time you step onto the strip, you have people from every club, bar, restuarant trying to get you in, so a 10 minute walk takes alot longer.

Beautiful sea and sandy beach

this is absilutely the best summer resort of the island because the sea is Very clean, with a lot of fishes and all day hot (30 º C). I really enjoyed the turtle trips directly on the beach in the laganas bay! I don't enjoyed the noisy nightlife of this place that, in my opinion, corrupted the natural environment of this beautiful place. The pub-taverna's pr in the strip and on the beach were too intrusive and rude.

Went on October 12th October. Main strip was like a ghost town with hardly anything open. Loads of stray dogs that follow you about which I had not read about on any reviews. At least the maribou bar on the beach front was open and a pint was only 1.80 euros and we had a great laugh with the staff.
