The Danish capital of Copenhagen is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city offering the very latest in fashion, design and architecture. The Tivoli Gardens amusement park is a great day out for all the family with its Chinese style pantomime theatre and the Rutchebanen wooden roller coaster. The Little Mermaid sits at the entrance to the harbour and as the most popular tourist attraction in Denmark she has become one of the most photographed statues in the world. Christiania is the free town of Copenhagen and was founded in 1971 by a group of hippies. Today it has over one thousand inhabitants and a number of art galleries.

Copenhagen

It's beautiful. Fantastic food, lovely beers, great shopping. Incredibly cultural. The kind of city you dream of being able to live in, but sadly cannot afford. It's expensive, sadly. But well worth saving up for. Don't skimp while you're there - live a little. You only live once.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The areas near the water.

The City has got everything

Copenhagen is really worth a trip. Be sure you visit the city for about a week to get to know the city. You've got a large shopping lane (Stroget), a big harbour - including kays for ferries, an opera in the harbour area, a Palace and also a theme park which is opened in the summer, two weeks before halloween and in christmas time. The whole city is very friendly and absolutely nice. While walking through the streets I felt reminded of London meaning the architecture, streets and - combining the hotels in the harbour area - the Docklands.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Historical Old town and the theme park...

Excellent location for a city break, loads to do and see. Plenty of bars and restaurant (can be expensive in Nyhaven). Very short easy flight. Everything within walking distance once in Copenhagen.

Great city - very expensive

The fact that scandinavian countries are expensive isn't news, but it still takes your breath away when you have to pay £5-£6 for a coffee in the city centre! You can find cheaper food, drink etc if you go slightly ofthe tourist streets' It is a safe city so no problemin doing that. Lots to see and do, nice people

The best thing about my stay was ...

Lively City

We loved Copenhagen mainly because we could walk everywhere and even when you get lost, we still got back on route. Its lovely to see so many people cycling - even in their business suits and briefcases and at night in groups socialising (some drinking cans and cycling). It is possible to find bars that are not so expensive. Restaurants are terribly expensive and forget about a bottle of wine unless you have plenty funds. The pedestrian shopping area is vast and worth a quick glance. The danish pastries are a must. The people are friendly and helpful.

The best thing about my stay was ...

being able to walk to so many of the sights - Church in Christianhavn with the spiral tower so worht the climb (398 steps)

Easy to Get Around

You can easily get around this lovely city on foot as it is small and flat. It is expensive but we found a lovely little bar called The City Bar just around the corner where mostly locals go and it was a little cheaper. A must do is to sit and have a drink/eat in Nyhan Harbour. But mostly just take your time and enjoy the lovely monuments/fountains and of course the Little Mermaid.

Friendliness

Copenhagen city

A great city to visit as an enroute stop off or city break. The size of the city and metro system enables easy travel. Unfortunately I found the taxi drivers at the airport very unhelpful and extremely unfriendly.

Expensive city with little to do in the evenings

There are some beautiful places to go in this city, but is prohibitavely expensive, and we did end up staying in our hotel room on a couple of evenings which was a shame. All the tourist attractions close early, and the only thing we could find to do in the evening other than drink expensive beer (£7.50 a pint) was to go to Tivoli, which was actually really good fun.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Friendliness of the people

Very disappointed with Copenhagen

I expected a vibrant city with a combination of interesting historical buildings and cutting edge design but every area of the city was being dug up and many of the best buildings were shrouded with scaffolding. It was horrendously expensive and the people were just not friendly! We enjoyed the canal tour and loved Christianshavn. Nyhavn was a nightmare - you could hardly move for the people! Christiania was interesting to walk around but not as hippy as I expected. We had great fun climbing up the tower of the church in Christianshavn - the one wher the last few spirals are on the outside of the tower! Superb views! The Design Museum and the Kunst Industrial Museet were disappointing. My brother really enjoyed the Ny Carlsberg Glyptoteck as he is very interested in Greek and Roman history. The layout of the building was extremely confusing and badly thought out. The best area was the conservatory in the centre!

The best thing about my stay was ...

Christianshavn and the church with the external stairs around the spire; walking around the back streets partly to get away from the crowds but also because the buildings are much more interesting!
