Protaras Holidays & Hotels

Hotels in Protaras

As a destination that’s loved by families, couples and groups of friends, Protaras offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit everyone. Like most Cypriot towns there are beachfront resorts, 5* luxury hotels, and even cheap apartments in the centre of town.

Since its transformation to a modern family friendly resort in the 1980s, Protaras has welcomed millions of holidaymakers to its shores. People travel the distance in order to glimpse the sandy beaches and clear water, and to get involved in the multiple land and sea-based activities available. With so much to see and do in the local area, it’s no surprise you’re considering a trip to this Cypriot paradise!

Where to stay

Fig Tree Bay

Fig Tree Bay is the best known beach in Protaras and is even considered to be one of the best in Europe. As a result, it’s a popular area for holidaymakers looking to make the most of Protaras’ seaside location. The majority of resorts are based around this small area, with spa hotels, family resorts and villas all available to book. Because of its popularity, this area is filled with supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

Cape Greco National Forest Park

Jutting out into the sea is Cape Greco National Forest Park, which is popular with hikers, cyclists and fans of scenic coastal views. It’s a 10-minute drive from the centre of Protaras, and offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the main town. It’s also considered one of the most beautiful places on the island, which is reflected in its array of 5* luxurious resorts situated just outside the park.

Pernera

The neighbouring resort to Protaras, Pernera is just a short coastal walk away. It’s a popular area for those seeking a more chilled, laid-back holiday, and there’s everything from upscale beachfront villas to budget apartments. Pernera is an area that’s brimming with low-key bars and restaurants, offering plenty of after-dark entertainment for tourists.

Ayia Napa

Around 6 miles from Protaras is the resort town of Ayia Napa, famed for its legendary nightlife and stunning beaches. All year round the town is popular with partiers, families and couples, and accommodation is just as varied as the type of holidaymaker it attracts. It’s got luxury spa accommodations, beachfront resorts, and intimate holiday villages dotted all over.

What to see

If you’re a fan of the outdoors, beautiful beaches and watersports, then a holiday to Protaras will be right up your street. Named after a nearby fig tree that sits all by itself, Fig Tree Bay is beloved by locals and holidaymakers alike. There’s also the picture-perfect Sunrise beach nearby, and Konnos beach a little further along the coast where you’ll find ample opportunities to get involved with watersports from diving to wakeboarding. Confident divers may even want to check out the manmade Ayia Napa Underwater Sculpture Park off the coast of Protaras.

Back on dry land, there’s plenty to check out, from the family friendly Ocean Aquarium to the Star Leisure Mini Golf centre. Head up to Profitis Ilias, a Byzantine type church overlooking Protaras, for stunning 360-degree views of the entire area. And don’t forget Cape Grecko National Forest Park. With its many walking trails and cycling paths, you can soak up the coastal views at your own pace.

Nightlife

Protaras offers a varied nightlife that’s a lot more laid-back than its neighbouring resort towns. It’s got a mixture of cocktail bars, clubs, pubs and karaoke bars, destined to keep you out until the early hours of the morning. Its main strip features entertainment options every couple of metres, and it’s also just a stone’s throw away from many of the town’s hotel resorts. Of course, if it’s memorable nightlife you’re after, then Ayia Napa is only a short cab drive away. With foam parties, themed club nights and bar crawls aplenty, this is the place to be if you like your after-dark entertainment to stretch out until breakfast!

What to eat

Sitting close to the border of Southern/Northern Cyprus, Protaras benefits from an eclectic mix of restaurants offering Cypriot and Turkish cuisine. Cypriot meze, made up of several small dishes, is a particular local favourite, and mustn’t be missed. However, Protaras also caters for all types of palates - from classic British pubs to Italian restaurants and Asian eateries, it’s easy to find something to satisfy your hunger.

Shopping

Protaras itself offers plenty of shopping opportunities. There are international supermarkets for day-to-day groceries and snacks, plus local boutiques and quaint craft stores. To get a major shopping fix though, it’s best to head to Nissi Avenue in Ayia Napa where you can pick up gifts in the little souvenir shops, or browse the local trends in the clothing stores.

Brilliant

Discovered Protaras when my son decided to get married at The Capo Bay. Cyprus was unknown to us, so our very first intro was Protaras, and what a impression it made. A true love affair. Since those days we have returned to Cyprus many many times, but we always end our holiday, no matter what part of the lovely island we stay, at Protaras. its almost become a ritual thing. It has become even more of a pleasure with all the amazing work that has been done along the sea front. Our first time here there was a dirt track across the cliff tops, npw there is an amazing walkway with bars, and cafe, and it is fantastic.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The place is alive. The only complaint I personally have is FOOTBALL EVERYWHERE, I loath football.

Perfect for families

Littered with bars and restaurants the competition keeps things very reasonable and the entertainment is aimed at families more than neighbouring Ayia Napa. Superb beaches are close by too; Fig tree bay and Konnos bay are tehe pick of them.

Oustanding place - wished I had visited years ago

Great, great, great. We have always holidayed in Mallorca, Spain or S of France. This was our first family holiday in Cyprus and we all loved it. Bars were great (no hassle from people trying to get us in the bars), the restaurants were varied from pub lunches to exquisite dining and catered well for the kids. Wifi was free in all bars, pubs and restaurants. The beach was gorgeous with a great walkway from start to finish along the promenade to enjoy the views. So many watersports that you were spoilt for choice. Great for snorkelling and swimming and the boats trips were really great. Already looking to go back. My only negative is the pavements could do with a jet wash/clean as they looked dirty!!

The best thing about my stay was ...

Seeing my kids so happy with the daily choice of activities to do in the resort.

Sleepy hollow can be as quiet or vibrant as you wish

Protaras unlike Aya Napa is much quieter but there is still a great cross section of bars/shops etc, enough for everyone to do. Try Adam at Rocks for the best Porterhouse steak your going to get in protaras

Quiet location but only a few miles from action.

Kouzalis Beach Hotel is a few miles out of Protaras centre but if you do visit there are plenty od clubs, bars, pubs and reaturants. Can imagine it could be quite expensive if you spent every evening there but we enjoyed ourselves when we did visit the strip!

The best thing about my stay was ...

Pubs and Restaurant choice.

packed,busy and full of atmosphere......

bars and resturants at the end of the season are very competative and price varies.. can get some lovely and reasonably priced set meals..if your prepared to walk up and down the main street...all our friends stated the hotels charge far more..so they came out to eat.meals are very large. Bars are lively with entertainment in most of them each night...in peak season im sure its very hectic with the younger age group... by oct shops bars and resturants are closing..by the 30th oct protaras will be a ghost town as all the hotels close and dont re-open to late march..all local shop keepers informed us they have no choice but to close . we choice to drive from larnaca airport..it took 60 minutes and it was very simple the main motor way takes you right into protaras....only problem we had was finding the hotel !!but locals were very helpful and it was dark!!

The best thing about my stay was ...

sun sea sand.......bars and resturants all within a short walk...
