Puerto Rico Holidays & Hotels

Although often confused with the island of Puerto Rico, this beautiful destination is also known as one of Gran Canaria’s most popular family resorts. As one of the sunniest spots in the Canaries, it's popular amongst those who want to enjoy the year-round sun.

Situated at the mouth of a beautiful valley, Puerto Rico has evolved from a fishing port to a busy holiday resort. With its new smart marina, stunning hotels and built up buildings, it’s the perfect place if you want to be in the heart of all the action.

Hotels in Puerto Rico

When it comes to accommodation in Puerto Rico, there are plenty of options; no matter your group size or if you are looking for cheap options. Whether you’re a family looking for a shared villa, a couple looking for a luxury hotel or a group looking for a place to rest between parties - Puerto Rico has it all. With a variety of different board options and hotels randing from two to five-star, you will be sure to find accommodation to suit your needs.

Where to stay

Puerto Rico Beach

Puerto Rico Beach – in the buzzing heart of the island – is the best option for an action-packed holiday. With many of the resorts most popular attractions within walking distance, the beach is one of the more popular areas in Puerto Rico. Cafes and restaurants line the beachfront and the surrounding streets; you can be sure you won’t short of places to eat. Just moments away from the popular Europa Center, there are also a wide range of places to drink into the early hours of the morning.

Amadores

If you’re looking for a more relaxed and tranquil area to stay in, Amadores is a great choice. With a gorgeous secluded beach enclosed with stunning hillsides, you can be sure you’re far enough from all the action to relax, without having to miss out on all of the fun. With easy access to busier areas in Puerto Rico, you can easily spend a few of your evenings exploring both Europa Center and the Shopping Center.

El Chapparal

If you want to stay in Puerto Rico but don’t want to be too close to the beach, El Chapparal is ideal. With just a 5-10 minute journey into the centre of Puerto Rico, you can relax knowing that excitement is not too far away. With the majority of all-inclusive resorts located in this area, this is a great base if you’re looking for an affordable break.

What to see

Puerto Rico boasts so many options – especially if you are looking to relax on the gorgeous, sandy beach. With an incredible view that overlooks the beautiful, calm water, it’s ideal for families who want to take their children paddling or swimming. While they play, you can top up that all-important holiday tan. If you are feeling up for adventure, there is also the option to try surfing or bodyboarding with the many schools that line the beach.

For those wanting to go further afield, you can book a marine excursion from Puerto Rico’s harbour. This will take you to see the Canary Island’s amazing dolphins and whales, as well as giving you the option to swim in some of the island’s clearest waters. If you’re feeling really brave, Puerto Rico beach is also known for its incredible water-skiing facilities.

Another great idea is a trip to The Dunes of Maspalomas. You’re going to want to make sure you have your camera and phone fully charged for this one, as the views across the Sahara-like dunes are absolutely breath-taking. The best way to explore them is to go on a camel or visit just as the sun is about to set. If you have time, visiting during the day is pretty spectacular, too.

If you’re looking for a great activity with the kids, why not have a splashing good time at the water park near Maspalomas. With huge water slides, plenty of fun chutes, and a large pool where you can cool off and relax - you can be sure there is something for every member of the family.

Although it may further, Puerto Rico is not too far from the capital of the island, Las Palmas. If you want an opportunity to see the beautiful sights of the Gran Canarian capital, then a day trip is essential. With plenty of buses, private transport and day trips running from most resorts in Puerto Rico, getting to the city is not difficult. Whilst there you can visit the city’s cathedral, the Casa de Colon and the fascinating science and technology exhibit at Las Palmas’ hands-on Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnología museum.

For those that are visiting the island for golf, you will be pleased to know there are many courses in the south of the island. The nearest is a five-minute drive away in Mogán.

Nightlife

Although it’s not one of the busiest areas in Gran Canaria, Puerto Rico is well-known for its incredible nightlife. As an all-year-round resort, you can enjoy 365 nights a year of fun, affordable drinks and great music, especially in and around the centre.

If you are interested in sampling the nightlife, Puerto Rico has two main spots - the Europa Center and the Shopping Center. The Europa Center is the biggest area of the two, offering family bars, karaoke and lots and lots of fun evening entertainment. Whilst the Shopping Center is smaller, it is much livelier and has a higher concentration of bars. With more choices and lots of live acts, you can be sure you’ll have some incredible nights out during your Canary Island holiday.

What to eat

For those looking for great restaurants in Puerto Rico, be sure to visit the Shopping Center mentioned above. With all types of restaurants ranging from typical Canarian cuisine to Chinese buffets, Steak Houses and Italian food, you can be sure there’s something for everyone.

Shopping

The famous Puerto Rico Shopping Centre is in the heart of the resort, reachable from most hotels by either taxi or by foot. With several supermarkets, clothing stores, chemists and restaurants under one roof, you could easily treat yourself to an afternoon of retail therapy during your holiday.

Lively Spot

Lovely if you could take out the hills and steps!!!!! Went on boat to Mogan had a fantastic day. Some of the shopo keepers try to hassle you and drag you in but we just ignored them. Plenty of lovely restaurants and chinese wok buffets are to die for. Murphys Kitchen lovely for Irish Breakfast. Would deffo go back to Port Rico much saying that much prefer Lanzarote as footpaths very unsafe in places.
