Lanzarote Hotels and Apartments
Lanzarote is a popular holiday destination with UK and Irish holidaymakers with most activity centred around three resorts on the South-East side of the island. The largest and most popular resort is Puerto del Carmen with Playa Blanca a quieter alternative on the southern tip of the island.
Like the other islands in the Canaries, Lanzarote has a wild and volcanic centre to it. The Timanfaya National Park is a beautiful area worthy of a day trip.
Great culture and perfect beaches
Lanzarote is part of the Canary Island archipelago off the North-west coast of Africa. The largely volcanic island has a softer sandier edge to it in the south. The cosmopolitan capital, Arrecife, is the commercial centre and also home to the island’s airport. The most popular resorts are in the south of the island. Lanzarote is a great destination for a holiday with great culture, incredible natural landscape and perfect stretches of sand facing the Atlantic and Africa in the distance.
A good choice for all
With very little rain, Lanzarote is a great year round holiday destination. The popular resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Play Blanca in the south fill up with sun seekers in the summer. The island is popular with families but is also a great destination for serious water sports enthusiasts. With popular day trips, good local markets and lively nightlife, Lanzarote is a good choice for all.
The Castillo de San Jose in Lanzarote
The Castillo de San Jose in Lanzarote is a fortress from centuries past and now houses the International Museum of Contemporary Art
Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen is a family friendly resort with a good, late night scene along the beachfront and the Commercial Centre
Playa de Papagayo
This stunning beach lies on the east coast of the island, north of Playa Blanca. Access to the beach is controlled and you will need to pay a small fee. The wild, exposed feel to the beach is a stark contrast to the crowded beaches of the resorts in the area. There are a couple of restaurants serving this picturesque stretch of coastline.
Timanfaya National Park
The Timanfaya National Park is an absolute must see. Take a day to explore the volcanic mountain range and the surrounding coastline including the impressive El Golfo Lake. There are lots of full day excursions running from Puerto del Carmen. You can expect a full day out with lunch and drinks if you choose to go on an organised tour.
Corpus Christi - Mid-June
The Canaries are well-known for spectacular fiestas, and Lanzarote is no exception. You’ll get the biggest and best experience if you go to the capital, Arrecife. Expect lively processions and streets covered in colourful carpets made of dyed salt. Corpus Christi is a Christian celebration and is usually held in the first week of June every year.
