Holidays and hotels in Golf del Sur

Hotels in Golf del Sur

Despite its relatively small size, Golf del Sur more than caters for all holidaymakers. Choose from the likes of beach side hotels to cheap and cheerful options in the centre of the golfing action or opt for a self-catering package in an apartment hotel.

Nestled in the very bottom of Tenerife, Golf del Sur offers sun, sea and – as the name suggests - golf for the whole family. It’s extremely popular with golfers thanks to its 27-hole championship golf course, but you can also while away many hours dining, sunbathing on beaches, and soaking up the island’s natural beauty. No matter what you’re after from your holiday in one of the busiest Canary Islands, you’re bound to find it at Golf del Sur.

Where to stay

Golf del Sur

The centre of Golf del Sur is the place to stay for those who want to be on the doorstep of golfing action. Checking into a hotel in the middle of the resort will leave you within a half hour’s walk of the surrounding golf courses. The beach and nearby villages are also a similar distance away. Additionally, you’ll also find a number of restaurants just a short walk from your room.

Los Abrigos

Just 10 minutes to the east of Golf del Sur is Los Abrigos, a small fishing village that offers quaint guest houses. With its own volcanic beach, evening markets and shops, Los Abrigos provides a more local experience when compared to its livelier neighbour, Golf de Sur. The village also has a plethora of restaurants alongside its colourful harbour, serving everything from seafood to traditional, Spanish influenced cuisine.

Las Galletas

A half-hour drive from Golf del Sur, Las Galletas is a bustling Canarian village that boasts a picturesque harbour. It’s got a number of eateries specialising in various cuisines, including Italian, Spanish and French. There are two stretches of beaches for making the most of the island’s sunny days, while visitors can also try their hand at diving or yachting. The narrow streets also feature a wealth of clothing, jewellery and gift shops for holiday souvenirs.

What to see

Golfers of all calibres will want to take a swing at the Golf del Sur golf course, the island’s only 27-hole championship course. The beautifully manicured, palm-tree lined lawns provide a relaxing destination for guests to practice their swings and their putts. Off the golf course, take a walk along to the picturesque Amarilla Marina, or swing by one of the many local public beaches for a bout of sunbathing. Playa San Blas is the closest at a 17-minute walk away, but Playa El Barranco is another local alternative.

While Golf del Sur provides a peaceful haven for visitors to enjoy the sunshine and traditional culture on their holiday, there’s also lots to see nearby. Less than an hour’s drive away, Teide National Park features a unique landscape of volcanoes and petrified lava, while Los Cristianos, with its zoo, water park and shopping centre, is 22 minutes away in the car.

Nightlife

Golf del Sur’s nightlife options are casual and low-key, with several bars and restaurants remaining open until late. The area surrounding Playa San Blas has a few more options for your holiday evenings, including sports bars and Irish pubs. Those looking for something a little livelier can head towards nearby Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. Both areas are brimming with bars, clubs and beach-front lounges that’ll keep partygoers busy until the early hours of the morning.

What to eat

Thanks to its beachfront location, Golf del Sur restaurants offer up a wide variety of seafood dishes, with much of the ingredients locally caught from the nearby harbours. Be sure to try tapas before you leave Tenerife. Made up of a selection of small plates, tapas can be served hot or cold, and can be enjoyed either as an afternoon snack or a full meal. Papas arrugadas are another local speciality; they are small, local potatoes that have been cooked until they are tender and the skin is wrinkled. These tasty appetisers are best enjoyed dipped into a sauce called mojo; the red variety is flavoured with spicy paprika, while the green sauce boasts garlic and green herbs.

Shopping

Golf del Sur is home to a number of small boutiques and local supermarkets, as well as a small selection of gift shops. On Tuesday from 5pm until 9pm, a night market can be found at Los Abrigos - expect to pick up small bites to eat as well as some handy gadgets. For shopping opportunities galore, it’s worth taking the trip towards Playa de las Américas for a variety of larger shopping centres.

LOVELY RESORT, ALL WELL MAINTAINED - AWAY FROM MADNESS OF LAS AMERICAS!

EASY ACCESS FROM AIRPORT (TAXI 12 EUROS), GOOD CHEAP BUS SERVICES TO: LOS ABRIGOS (SUPERB FISH RESTAURANTS - ALSO WALKABLE), EL MEDANO (GOOD BEACHES, RESTAURANTS, WIND SURFING & SHOPPING), LAS AMERICAS & LOS CHRISTIANOS (IF YOU REALLY MUST!) & SAN ASIDRO + LAS CHARIFAS (GOOD SHOPPING & LOCAL RESTAURANTS). MANY GOOD VALUE LOCAL RESTAURANTS WITHIN 1KM WALK (INCLUDING SAN BLAS). SUPERB MARINA WITH 2 VERY GOOD AND INEXPENSIVE BARS. MANY GREAT WALKS ALL WITH GREAT VIEWS & BARS CONVENIENTLY LOCATED. IF YOU ARE ACTIVE YOU REALLY DO NOT NEED TO HIRE A CAR.

The best thing about my stay was ...

WONDERFULL VIEWS & GOOD WALKING. WEATHER GOOD THROUGHOUT YEAR. EXCELLANT GOLF COURSES (BUT RESORT IS CERTAINLY NOT JUST FOR GOLFERS)

Quiet resort suitable for familes a couples

Spotless resort with many varied restaurants. Best being Habour Lights, Tapas at San Blas square and El Mirador in Los Abrigos which is a small fishing village about a 30 minute walk or short taxi ride away. Cost for 3 course meal for two and with wine averaged between 42 and 45 euro. There are no timeshare touts here and you don't notice the planes coming in and out of the airport which is ten mintes away. The resort would not suit young people as it's very quiet. Best suited for couples and young families. There's a number of bars and one cabaret bar Volare which is excellent and it has nightly entertainment with karaoke afterwards. You'll find this opens until at least 1am each night.

Great place away from the hustle and bustle

The Golf Del Sur is not a beach holiday but is very suitable for people who want to be away from the night clubs and busy bars of say Las Americas, although you can easily get to the bigger resorts by bus or taxi. There are plenty of bars and restaurants on the Golf but no ticket touts and only one lucky lucky man!! It is situated very close to the airport and its a fantastic place for plane spotting! Its a golfers paradise and is developing all the time, in our opinion there is something there for everyone.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Laid back atmosphere

We just keep going back!!!

First stayed in resort appx 9 years ago. Went back for our 2nd visit 4 years ago & now cant keep away. Great little resort, just missing a beach but the hotel/appartment pools seem to make up for that. Nice for an evening walk & plenty of places to eat & drink without havibg to go too far. Only a ten minute cab ride & 15Euros from the airport so no hanging about when you just want to start your holiday.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Its many lovley hotels & appartments. Views of the ocean. Also love the resorts size as its not so small you get bored but not so big that you feel lost or insecure while waling about.

Quiet and relaxed.

The Golf del Sur area is within 10 minutes from the airport by car or about 20 minutes by bus (415) which runs every 2 hours. Bus services to Los Christianos are within a few minutes walk from any of the hotels and run frequently from early morning to late evening. From Los Christianos services run to all parts of the Island. A Bono card will provide discounted bus travel and whilst a car is useful for independence, it is not essential. The Golf area is generally quiet and relaxed with bars and good restaurants scattered throughout, catering for all tastes from quick takeaway to fine dining. Local mini-marts abound but for a wider selection and cheaper prices San Blas or Las Chifras have supermarkets and hypermarkets. Golf is the main preoccupation of many, but others will find magnificent scenery and an abundance of coastal walks available to explore. There is all a submarine safari for the adventurous. Don't expect the bright lights and clubs in this area, but these can be found in Las Americas which is only 30 minutes by car or about an hour on the bus. There is no beach to speak of in this area, the nearest being El Medano or Los Christianos but this shouldn't be a negative, as all hotels and apartment complexes have pools. After many years of inactivity, there seems to be a resurgence in completing some of the part-finished hotel and apartment blocks. The noise is minimal and shouldn't have a major impact, as most of the work seems to be finishing off. The Golf lies under the flightpath and although planes are constantly arriving, the noise is minimal and after the first day, they are rarely noticeable.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Magnificent sea views and the peaceful, relaxed atmosphere.

Quiet friendly location

Aminities all close by. Plenty of places to go to eat, drink and shop. Regular buses if you wanted to go on a day out somewhere. The locals were very friendly and most spoke English. Really enjoyed our time there and we will definitely come back again.

Very quiet

Golf Del Sur is very quiet and peaceful but is in easy reach of the more livelier resorts. We always hire a car but I believe the buses are excellent so there is no problem getting around. I will say be very careful when hiring a car there are a lot of hidden extras with some companies. Some of the bigger named companies use other names to offer you great deals but we learnt that these deals are not so great by having to spend a night in the airport!

The best thing about my stay was ...

peace and quiet, loads of parking, near to the airport

Golf de Sur

I always stay in Golf de Sur when I come to Tenerife. I prefer it to Los Americas and Los Christianos. It is a lot quieter and more select. There are not as many shops or bars but if you want or need them the bus service is very good. Although there is no beach at Golf de Sur there is a fantastic one at La Medano which is just up the coast.

The best thing about my stay was ...

No Lager Louts!

classy in the sun

Seperated from the normal Tenerife Hub bub this resort has shops and all you would expect without the endless clubs and bars. If they are what you want you can still go just over the hill in a taxi. The best of both worlds.

The best thing about my stay was ...

No street traders, or timeshare reps

peace and tranquility

The area was great especially if you liked golf, there was no lager louts running riot, no-one harassing you to go in the bars/restaurants like you get in Los Christianos and Playa De Las Americas.

Quiet, relaxing resort - ideal for families and couples

I have visited Gold Del Sur 4 or 5 times now and always managed to come away feeling relaxed. There are plenty of places to eat if visiting for a week - longer than that you may find yourself going to the same places. Food is excellent - i would recommend Rendevouz within Winter Gardens although i would advise to book in advance. Resort is a short transfer from airport which should cost around 15 euros in a taxi. The busier resorts of Los Cristianos and Las Americas are only 15 mins away by public transport if looking for something more lively. 2 euros one way per person. All in all a lovely resort.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Quiet, safe resort.
