Caleta de Fuste Holidays & Hotels

Otherwise known as El Castillo, Caleta de Fuste is a purpose-built holiday resort that has become popular with both British and Irish tourists over the last ten years. With incredibly easy access to the airport and Fuerteventura’s fascinating capital, there’s little wonder this resort is a well-loved spot within the iconic Canary Islands. If you prefer to explore during your holiday, Caleta de Fuste also has incredible links to the rest of Fuerteventura.

Hotels in Caleta de Fuste

Depending on your needs, the accommodation in Caleta de Fuste ranges from two-star self-catering apartments right through to luxury five-star hotels. With a total of 36 hotels and apartment complexes, Caleta de Fuste is home to as many as 12,000 tourist beds. For something a little more private, there are a range of cheap apartments and villas which are let out by private owners.

Where to stay

Caleta de Fuste Beach

If you want to be in the heart of all the action, Caleta de Fuste Beach is definitely the place to be. With a variety of different restaurants and lively bars lining the beachfront, you can be sure there is something different to do each and every evening you spend in Fuerteventura. Both Castillo de San Buenaventura and the Oceanarium Explorer are nearby, giving you plenty of choice for day trips and afternoon excursions during your holiday.

Caleta de Fuste Town

If you are looking to stay somewhere that is a little more peaceful, the town of Caleta de Fuste is predominately made of resorts. Whilst you may have to travel a little bit further to find a bar or restaurant, this area is popular amongst families on all-inclusive plans. If you’re planning excursions or want to reach Caleta de Fuste beach, it is only 10 minutes by bus or taxi.

What to see

Caleta de Fuste is known for its two stunning man-made beaches - Playa la Guirra and El Castillo beach. Offering calm, blue waters, they are ideal for families with small children. With plenty of sun loungers, parasols and Balinese beds, you can easily spend the day relaxing in the stunning Canary Island sun. If you’re visiting the popular Playa la Guirra, you will find a beach bar and cafe that is almost completely surrounded by water. The only way of accessing it is by walking across a tiny footpath through the water, making it an incredibly unique dining experience for the whole family. The larger El Castillo Beach has disabled access ramps, showers, and toilets along with football and volleyball areas.

If you’re visiting the beach and have experienced the island’s clear waters for yourself, taking that one step further and exploring Fuerteventura’s underwater world in a submarine is a must. With most hotels offering a pickup excursion service, you can easily book onto one of the many submarine tours a day.

If going under water isn’t your idea of fun, why not set sail on a catamaran, try your luck on an inflatable activity course, or try the adrenaline-inducing flyboarding? If like most, you would prefer a more tranquil above-the-water experience, you can also hire aquatic bikes and kayaks from both beaches in Caleta de Fuste.

For something a little out of the ordinary, the Salt Museum is around 20 minutes from the resort. Whilst this is definitely one of the more unusual things to do on your holiday, learning how salt is produced and exploring the old salt mines can be incredibly fascinating. Alternatively, if you prefer your salt in the form of seawater, you can spend the afternoon exploring the Oceanarium. This is a marine-life park geared heavily towards children, giving them the opportunity to swim with sea-lines and see shoals of fish from the comfort of a glass-bottomed boat.

Finally, for the golf lovers amongst us, Caleta de Fuste has two incredible 18-hole golf courses - the Fuerteventura Golf Club and the Antiqua Golf Club. Whilst they are located right next to each other, each is worth a visit in its own rights.

Nightlife

One of the most common reasons people choose to visit Caleta de Fuste is because it has a great balance between wild partying and family-friendly nightlife. Whilst sometimes you may need to stay in your resort for a family-friendly night out, there are plenty of bars that welcome children and offer evening entertainment.

Alternatively, the cocktail joints and lively bars are just a short walk from most Caleta de Fuste resorts, with most located on the street of Calle Paetonal Orchilla.

What to eat

Developed around a cove, Caleta de Fuste boasts an abundance of fresh fish – forming the foundations for the local cuisine. There are a variety of cafes and restaurants lining the beautiful coastline and promenade area, providing a beautiful backdrop to your evening meal.

The local cuisine also boasts brilliant, Mediterranean influences – most notably, Spanish, with a number of delectable tapas dishes to sample and savour. El Camarote is one notable restaurant, offering views of the harbour and the lighthouse.

Shopping

If you want to spend an afternoon enjoying some retail therapy on holiday, don’t pass up the opportunity to go to the Caleta de Fuste markets. The incredible street market takes place on both Tuesdays and Saturdays and is held in Montecastillo. If you’re looking for unique souvenirs to take home, you can also visit the handmade market in the main town square every Friday.

Great resort, plenty to do and see

Stayed in Caleta De Fuste for a week at the end of June and had a great time. Plenty of things to do, a great beach and loads of places to eat and drink. I would recommend Pieros for drinks and sports (they also do great cocktails) For steaks try Fado Rock, their food is great and the themed restaurant is nice too. For more authentic spanish food, try El Capitano. Their tapas was great and sangria was only 5 euros for a jug at happy hour!

Great resort, lively but not rowdy

Lots of lovely bars and restaurants, great beach and lots of park areas for children. English mix of bars/eating places however lots of authentic Tapas and Spanish restaurants also. I will be going back as it ticks so many boxes. Great shops and pleasant atmosphere. Also very close to airport which is handy however it is under the flight path which really didn't bother us but may bother some people.

Great Island

A well kept resort with a mix of quiet bars and resturants with the odd one or two more liverly bars very family friendly and will be hoping to go again soon. Its acts as a very good base to hire a car and see the rest of the Island due to its central position also the transfer time is only 10 mins which is welcome after a flight delay and a 4-5hr flight with my two year old Bless her!
