German Grupotel Club Menorca
Janet Houghton, Leigh, Lancashire
We've just returned form two weeks at these Apartments. We were a group of six- two Grandparents, a couple in our thirties, a 14year old and a disabled child of 8. Firstly, we had asked to be allocated in adjacent rooms so that our parents could help with care for our 8 yr old son. Whilst they gave us apt 45 & 46, they were actually not next door but one floor apart and one or two doors down. We had apt no. 45 which was perfect for a wheelchair user and acces for our son to the pool area. The rooms have air con which is very necessary- temps were 30degrees+.The rooms were clean and tidy- maid service 5 days a week. Beware if self catering as equipmemt is sparce- no kettle and few pots etc. The complex is geared for All inclusive really. The complex is predominently German and entertainments etc is geared up for that. We were one of only three English families there for the whole 2 weeks which was a problem for our 14yr old in making friends. The whole complex is sort of wheelchair/buggy friendly- ramps are around but take you the long way and twice as long to get to the bar area etc. Plenty of beds around pool, and pool warm and clean. We did however experience 3 power cuts in the 2 weeks, each for around 1-2 hours up to 5 hours- not great. The reception did speak English, but quite poorly- difficult when trying to explain that we had no power or water! The resort itslef was very nice- everything was within walking distance- the marina, supermarkets and shops etc, but the pavements and paths were quite uneven so difficult with a wheelchair.Torro Negro restaurant at the marina was excellent- not the cheapest but lovely food and very courteous. Would possibly go again, but only if we could have the exact same apartment, as no other looked adequate for our personal needs. Would imagine it to be difficult here with younger children as the kids club was totally German, and the playworkers didn't speak any English at all. Overall a lovely holiday-no problems with everyone being German- they were very polite but would have been nice to be forewarned of that at this hotel being deafened with ein, zwei drei each morning became a little disturbing!

I must admit it is difficult to read any reviews on this hotel, except on German webistes, thus we were not surprised to find it is mainly German clientelle who frequent this hotel. That said there is a good smattering of English, Dutch, Spanish and Italian clients in the background.

The hotel complex is set out in a Spanish 'street style', with charming village type squares, lovely gardens and plants, and a relaxing ambience.

Four of us (two adults, one child, one baby) stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was spacious and had full kitchen facilities, with fridge and microwave. The decor was pleasant, and our room was visited by a cleaner five days out of seven. She did a great job, and as we have children, everything was kept in good order

The only negative regarding the rooms is that they lack air-conditioning, but fans can be hired from the helpful reception desk.

The centralised pool is very large, and has a seperate children's section. The gardens around the pool are lovely, and plenty of sunbeds are available, either set out around the pool or stacked in strategic positions so you can take them to your desired area.

There is a great free kids club run by Bea and her team. There is a host of creative activities here for the youngsters and they were very welcoming to our five-year-old who had a fantastic time with children of other ages and nationalities.

Entertainment is nightly, fairly low key, with two professional show per week - (watch out for the plate spinning juggler - he is hilarious). There is a nightly kids disco, and the rest of the entertainment is provided by the animation team who do a good job and are very friendly.

We dined at the hotel restaurant on a couple of occassions and thought the 18 euro ( half price for kids)charge was a bit expensive, but this did include all your drinks whilst in the dining area, including wine, so ultimately it wasn't bad value after all. The food was of a reasonably good standard, with the usual buffet style offerings.

The hotel is situated about 150 metres from one of the three lovely beaches in the resort and about 300 metres from the picturesque harbour of Cala N Bosch.

Children are very well catered for in Menorca, and I would thoroughly recommend this island for parents wi

Review of 'GRUPOTEL CLUB MENORCA'

The location of Grupotel Club Menorca is great for amenities, there are 2 supermarkets a stone throw away, it is a 5 minute walk to the marina (which is excellent for restaurants)and Cala n bosch beach and a 5 minute walk in the other direction to Son Xoriguer beach but it is situated in a quiet road. We stayed in a 1 bed aparmtent, self catering, with ample room for us 4; sofas converted to bed for the kids & we had 2 wardrobes. A small kitchen with Fridge & elec hob but no toaster or kettle. Unfortunately not air conditioned & very hot at night, so hired 2 fans from Reception. Excellent reception staff & maid service. Although the aparthotel offers a kids club & kids disco etc we were very disappointed as it catered for the majority of guests who were German & it was sometimes difficult to understand the humour of some of the entertainment. There were various acts on throughout the 2 weeks but nothing outstanding. Our brochure also led us to believe there was a kids park on site but actually it was across the street! The poolside bar was drinks only which was disappointing for guests who like us were self catering but it seemed the majority of people were all inclusive, however we did have the option to purchase meals in the restaurant, but eating at set times didn't appeal. Getting a sun lounger & parasol was a nightmare as some guests seemed to be reserving them quite early in the morning, if not late at night! In summary cannot fault the apartments or its location.

What a lovely place to relax, although mostly German it was nice to feel abroad. The Hotel was very nice and efficiently run. The food variety for both adults and children was wonderful. We met a lovely german family who had children of age similar to ours and they spoke english. It is close to all amenties, the landscape of the grounds throughout the complex are beautiful. Staff very helpful, the sevice everywhere good. The only downside was that our apartment was no. 2, which was right next to where the maid service staff met at 7.30 am every morning and they did not seem to be aware that this apartment was occupied and the noise of them discussing their daily routine took place outside our balcony. However overall the hotel and facilities made our holiday one to enjoy and remember.
