Amsterdam Holidays & Hotels
Hotels in Amsterdam
From 5* canalside hotels to quirky cheap hostels, you can find virtually every type of accommodation in Amsterdam’s variety of districts. And whether you want something in the middle of all the action, or would rather experience the quieter side of the Netherlands capital during your holiday, there’s the perfect neighbourhood waiting for you.
Cultural events, parties and a rich tapestry of history: there are endless reasons why people travel to Amsterdam. Couples, families and groups of friends are spoilt for things to do in this eclectic city all year round, making it the ideal destination for everything from a winter city break to a week-long holiday.
Where to stay
You’ll need your cameras at the ready for this picturesque area of Amsterdam, which is home to quaint bridges and all the artistic vibes. The Jordaan neighbourhood is to Amsterdam what Shoreditch is to London. It’s full of independent shops, quirky accommodation, and chic restaurants - plus it’s handily just a short walk away from all the city centre sights, including the Anne Frank House. Just as you’d expect in this neighbourhood, accommodation is varied and stylish, ranging from budget hostels to upmarket canalside lodging.
If you want to be in the middle of the city on your holiday, the Dam neighbourhood is where you’ll find the heart of all the action, from the after-dark entertainment of the Red Light District to the main shopping centre. Large hotel chains are dotted around the centre, giving you easy access to key sights including Madame Tussauds, the Amsterdam Dungeon and the National Monument.
Set a short walk away from the city’s central canal network, the Oud-Zuid area showcases a quieter side to Amsterdam. Check into one of the chain hotels or independent accommodation options and you’ll be on the doorstep of some of the city’s most exciting museums, like Rijksmuseum and the contemporary art of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. You’ll also be close to the 120-acre Vondelpark, perfect for daytime strolls, summer picnics and free open air concerts between May and September.
What to see
Whether you’re in Amsterdam for a weekend or longer holiday, you’ll be spoilt for things to do in this vibrant city. The first port-of-call for many is to track down the Instagrammable ‘I Amsterdam’ letters which move around the city every few months. Once you’ve taken all the photos to fill up your feed, learn more about the city by exploring it from a new perspective: by a boat tour, along its UNESCO protected canal belt. Tours take in the history of the city and provide the perfect views to take in the twinkling fairy lights over the charming bridges.
Culture vultures will love the range of museums available around the city. The Anne Frank House, based in the exact building where Anne and her family went into hiding during World War 2, is one of the most popular. However, there’s everything from Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art to the Museum of Bags and Purses and also Heineken Experience, catering for all tastes. And, of course, no holiday to Amsterdam is complete without visiting Bloemenmarkt. Found along the Singel canal, the world’s only floating flower market sells colourful plants and accessories to brighten up your home. Read more about the top cultural spots in our blog here.
From all-night raves to low-key bars, Amsterdam has it all for every type of holidaymaker. The city has a thriving nightlife scene, with clubs regularly hosting international DJs. Hen and stag parties are a regular sight around the city centre thanks to its influx of bars, pubs and coffee shops - there’s everything from old-school bars to lively clubs.
For quirky nightlife, head out of the main centre towards Amsterdam Oud-West. It’s got much more of an alternative scene, with speakeasys and jazz clubs sitting alongside world-famous clubs and various music venues.
What to eat
The Netherlands is famous for many tasty treats, including stroopwafels, pancakes, Dutch fries and raw herring. A short walk out from the Jordaan neighbourhood is Foodhallen, a site that features dozens of food stalls all under one roof. Pick up some Chinese cuisine, traditional Dutch snacks or some Mediterranean delicacies, and then huddle around the central seating area with your friends.
Amsterdam is a shopper’s paradise, offering plenty of opportunities to pick up gifts for loved ones back home - as well as some treats for yourself. The city centre is home to a number of local and international chains where you can pick up clothes, Dutch delicacies, homeware and souvenirs. For something a little different, head to Albert Cuypmarkt in De Pijp. It’s open six days a week and is one of the most famous street markets in the city. You’ll find everything from food to bags, clothing and flowers.

Very pleased with my stay !
Anita , Greece
Amazing place! Very pleased with my stay, the room was clean , had everything that you would expect in a room such as toiletries essentials and the staff were very friendly! The only thing they could add a tea to the room could be nice :) But overall the breakfast bar seems very nice they had selections of different type of items which you could choose to eat, you need to add 10 euro to have the buffet but l think it worth it :) Lastly they allow you to store your luggage in a safe room until the check-in time , so was very pleased with that service as l was able to go explore the area without carrying my luggage.
The best thing about my stay was...That they were able to store my luggage as l couldn't check in yet !

Great for a weekend break
Robyn, United Kingdom
I stayed here for 3 nights in December, and was shocked with how lovely our room was! Big TV, massive bathroom (for two of us), and comfortable beds. The hotel actually has 4* on the front of the building, so I'm not sure this website is accurate in saying it is a 3* hotel. The only thing I'd say is that we had to walk 10 minutes to the tram station twice a day - if you have young children or don't fancy walking in the cold, there are probably hotels closer to the central area that you'd find easier. However for the price, I think this hotel was amazing and would recommend it for young couples or groups of friends.
The best thing about my stay was...The room and bathroom

good if your looking for a cheap hotel and dont care about good quality service. Not all staff were polite at the reception, we stayed there for 3 nights and our bed sheets were not changed once, but they are supposed to be changed every other day. Rooms were not thoroughly cleaned but maybe thats what you get for a 3 star hotel, apart from that the breakfast was probably the best as i thought there was quite a selection.
The best thing about my stay was...breakfast

Good, clean but far from center perfect to stay in summer!
Eva , Estonia
We stayed in March26 for 3 days. We ordered room only. Good hotel for valleys of Money. Girls at receptions were very friendly and helped us every time we need! Good location for peaceful rest after walking in Amsterdam. 10 minutes by walk till metro and 20 minutes by metro and you are in center. If you buy an IAMstedam pass no problems with transport and payment in museums more than 20 museums are free and others with discount. Our room was clean. Very clean bed line and towels. Furniture and design is a little bit old. But we came only to sleep and rest. It was not difficult to find hotel but I think that hotel can write more in description of location( for example: Last metro nr 53 station , turn left, pass Planetarium, pass camping, pass Prince Alexander Williams horse manage and here you are!!)Thanks alpharooms for great discount. It was lowest price of all!

Damien , the middle of nowhere (England)
Room was very tidy, Food and drink service poor. Clean atmosphere and friendly service. Only draw back was the fact of being in the middle of nowhere.

Review of 'TULIP INN AMSTERDAM RIVERSIDE'
Lesley Fleming, Bury/ England
The accomadation is clean well run and freindly. It is close to a metro stop which made it convenient for the city. The only draw back was very slow service in the resteraunt.
