The best thing about my stay was...The hotel was in a great location!

Good value, no frills hotel
Just returned from a 10 night stay, staying in a one-bedroomed apartment. After reading some of the reviews I was very worried before we arrived. However I needn't have been, as we had a really enjoyable stay. Some people will always find fault, but this hotel is exactly what it presents itself as, a good value 3* family hotel in a great location. I've written what I believe to be an honest review: Rooms - the rooms are a bit dated, but not as bad as I feared, our apartment was spotlessly clean, very spacious and in traditional Spanish tiled decor. Adequate balcony overlooking the pool as requested via email to the hotel before our stay. Some minor gripes with poor water pressure in the bathroom (the tap literally just dribbled and the shower curtain was too short so always flooded the bathroom). Pool areas - there are 4 pools, we didn't go to the smaller pool by Cala gran II apartments but could see it from our apartment and it looked nice enough. We stayed in Cala gran I apartments overlooking the biggest pool (the curved one on the pics). The pool was big enough and the kids pool above it was a good size. The pool by the snack bar/entertainment area is smaller and busier, but overlooks the beach. The smaller pool by the dining room is heated, but very limited sunbeds. Pools are cleaned daily and chlorine levels checked at least twice a day. Sun beds - at the beginning of our stay we did have difficulty getting a sunbed but definitely improved as the hotel got quieter at end of August. They are unlocked at 9.30am, people do start reserving spots from 8am with towels but this happens at lots of hotels. Public areas - very clean, maintenance doing upkeep and minor repairs, not at all disruptive. Some areas are quite tired, replacing some of the old fabric chairs etc would make it more modern/fresh. Food - breakfast was good, nice selection of hot food, cereal, fruit, pastries, bread. Lunch - only ate in the restaurant once as we tended to eat from the snack bar by the entertainment pool. Snack bar - Always salad, chips, pasta, bread and either burgers, meatballs or battered fish bites. Available 11am-3pm, cake served 3pm-4pm and toasties 4pm-5pm. Dinner - we found this hit and miss - there is always salad, chips, pasta etc however myself and my daughter eat very little meat and really struggled some days as the pasta sauce always contained mince and pizza (3 times a week) had pepperoni on it, some days just had salad and bread but there was always plenty of it. Desserts were nice, always cake & fruit, but I have stayed in hotels with wider selection of desserts. Drinks - good quality spirits, nice beer, branded soft drinks, no slush for kids but they do non-alcoholic cocktails which the kids loved. Standard tubs of ice cream available from all bars. Hot drinks available at breakfast, from the snack bar and pool bar but not in the dining room during dinner. Staff/entertainment- most of the staff were very friendly, cleaning staff always smiled and greeted us, restaurant staff very hardworking and pleasant, most bar staff friendly (not always so in the main entertainment bar), Miguel A in the pool bar is very friendly and always had a joke with the kids. He was really helpful when my son cut his foot and cleaned it up using antiseptic fluid etc. Coco the main animacion guy was friendly and worked really hard, he led the entertainment some evenings and the daily water polo games which my kids loved. Can't comment on kids club as we didn't use it. Entertainment was standard for family hotels, better than some we've stayed in, no complaints, we saw Adele and elvis tribute acts, parrot show, karaoke, a celebrity quiz etc. Location - excellent, beach is literally 2 mins away either by a path from the hotel or by crossing the road. Beautiful cove with safe bathing, lifeguards, pedaloes, cafes, toilets, showers. 2 minutes walk to the right to the resort centre, Cala d'or is much bigger than I anticipated and is a lovely, safe family resort. Lots of lovely restaurants and shops. 15 minute steady walk to the marina. This hotel is good value for money, it's clean, the staff are friendly and it's in a great location, which for me are the most important points. Drinks and snacks are great, could benefit from more choice at dinner for vegetarians. With a bit of an upgrade this hotel could be fab.
The best thing about my stay was...Location to beach and resort centre

Very clean hotel, public areas immaculate and rooms cleaned every day we were there. Our room was very small but we were hardly in it so not important! The pools were fantastic, no problems getting a Sunbed even though it was May half term. Entertainment average but my 6 year old loved it! The food was great considering only a 3 star hotel, the desserts were particularly delicious! Location of the hotel is amazing and the beach opposite is just stunning. All staff were friendly and great with children. Really helpful reception. We all had a great time.
The best thing about my stay was...The best thing was probably the proximity to the amazingly beautiful beach.

Great Location, Apartments poor and dated.
Niall Grace, Ireland
Stayed here the first two weeks in August, impressed with the location, was just beside the beach and minutes from bars, restaurants and shops. However the apartments were a let down as they were dated and many without a balcony. There was also a lack of space around the pool areas and as the sunbeds are locked up for the night it is a struggle to get a spot by the pool each morning as there is a bit of a scramble. On arrival we were given our welcome pack which offered us three late check out options on departure. Check out time is 11am and late check out options were 1.30pm, 3.30pm and 7pm. As out departure was a late one we requested a late check out on a number of occasions but were told to ask closer to departure and we were eventually refused which was frustrating. This is a 3 star hotel and an expensive one at that so expected more. Was also very noisy late at night and early morning, would not return in a hurry.

Not up to scratch
Dishy Donster, Munster
We booked these apartments based on the photos on the website. Nice modern clean rooms as you would expect for €175 per night. We were given an apartment that looked like it was last decorated in the 1980's - tired, doors that were literally crumbling and would not close properly, no kitchen storage, rusting 30 year old oven. Our two bed apartment also had no private balcony. We were told that the small 2 foot wide table and 3 chairs outside the front door in the public area was our "balcony" and were asked if we had paid extra for a private balcony. Small pool areas do not have enough beds for the number of guests - you need to be at the pool at 8am to lay your towels on the piece of ground that you want and then wait until 09:30 for the beds to be unlocked. The only positive is that if you cannot get beds or a piece of ground to place them on, the beautiful beach is only two minutes away. Three star prices for 2 key accommodation - very disappointing and not recommended. Will not be returning.
