Nice hotel near the centre There are a large number of steep steps from the hotel to main road. Elderly may struggle to climb. Hotel is not a 5star hotel, corridors very tired and carpet need replacing. Room nice and the air-conditioning in the room is excellent. Pool area is good and plenty sun beds available. Breakfast was very basic.
The best thing about my stay was...Hotel staff very polite and helpful

Outstanding customer service
Arrowsmith , Swansea
We thought the service in the Grand Hotel Excelsior was exemplary from the chauffeurs to the managers and everyone in between. The facilities were also excellent. Lots of toiletries provided in room including toothbrush and shaving kit should you forget yours! Rooms a bit tired but this was more than made up for by the fact that it was cleaned to perfection twice every day and a little chocolate was left on our pillow each night. Bottles of water are provided daily and there are tea and coffee making facilities. Hair dryer was not great but in 37 degrees heat who needs one? Air con worked a treat in the room though! As for Valletta and the rest of Malta. Wow! We can't wait to return. I was sad to leave after two amazing weeks. So much to see and do and such lovely welcoming people. Only thing to be aware of is the slippery pavements and steep hills and steps. Take flat comfy shoes! Don't forget to check out Floriana as well as Valletta and we highly recommend Birgu.
The best thing about my stay was...Amazing service at hotel and easy access to very cheap ferries on both sides plus extremely close to buses.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel , the staff are excellent, the rooms are a good size and clean , the decor is to a good standard, foods good but a little pricey, the only downfall to this hotel are all the steps upto the main road but cabs are cheap so not a problem
The best thing about my stay was...Relaxing

Just back from a 5 night stay at the hotel. Location very close to the bus station and Valletta centre. Staff really friendly and easy check in and out. You do have to pay a €50 euro per night for your stay as a deposit on credit card but this is refunded when you leave. Any extras can be coated to your room. Breakfast has wide range of food and eggs made to order. Food amazing. Definitely recommend the hotel and look forward to staying again next year!
The best thing about my stay was...Location, food and staff.

Fantastic hotel in a great location!
Cragster43, Lancashire, England.
This hotel lived up to its five star rating. The reception area is huge and majestic looking, with a bar overlooking the pool area and with views of the sea & Manoel Island! The entrance & reception area are on the sixth floor, as the hotel is built into the rocks, so floor one is for the gym & swimming pool! We had a very nice and spacious double room on the eighth floor, which although lacking a view was enormous & quiet. With a shower, bath, television & wardrobes. We didn't eat at the hotel as there are many cheap places in Valletta for food, but we imagine that the food would be nice like the hotel is! The pool area http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultrasport-Chin-Up-Exercise-2-Way/dp/B008BQ6WQQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1456435988&sr=1-4&keywords=pull+up+baras great with plenty of sun beds, a place to buy beer and sandwiches, and great views!
The best thing about my stay was...The spaciousness of the hotel and its location. A short walk to Valletta!

Not 5 star hotel
Air conditioning very noisey difficult to go asleep. Disgusting filthy carpet, Location is not very good hotel is down on a hill so have to climb a hill everytime you want to leave hotel. Location to Valetta is 15 mins walk. Hotel charge is €12 for taxi to Valetta where as taxi charge direct is €5. We booked classic room which only gives you view of wall outside. Value for money paid for stay is very poor.
The best thing about my stay was...Leaving the hotel.
