Alicante Holidays & Hotels
Hotels in Alicante
Alicante is a vibrant beach city and historic Mediterranean port in Spain. It is the gateway to the Costa Blanca as well as the capital of the province of Alicante. So, if you want a mix of historic sights, beautiful beaches and spectacular shopping then Alicante is a perfect choice for your next holiday.
Alicante has many wonderful places to stay during your holiday and you can choose from hotels in the historic Old Town or purpose-built resorts close to the miles of beautiful, sandy beaches. Alternatively, you can stay near the airport, which is just 11 kilometres from the city centre and provides a good base for exploring the wider area.
Where to stay
Historic Old Town
As well as many historic sights and great medieval architecture, the Old Town offers plenty of boutiques and markets, plus hundreds of restaurants and a vibrant nightlife for those holidaymakers looking to keep busy. It is also well connected for adventures out of the city and, best of all, it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the beach.
The old town offers a range of places to stay from boutique accommodation to international chains and cheap hotels and hostels.
Alicante beaches and marina
As the sun nearly always shines in Alicante you can’t go wrong with a resort near the beach. Places to stay near the beach and marina include small family run hotels and larger chains with extra facilities such as pools, spas and gyms allowing you to get some R&R whilst on holiday. The beaches also have plenty of family-friendly restaurants nearby.
There are plenty of places to stay around Alicante airport and these offer a good base for exploring the region, with good connections to destinations including Torrevieja and Benidorm as well as Alicante’s major resorts. The accommodation here are budget friendly with plenty of international chains and cheap resorts that still offer great accommodation and plenty of facilities.
What to see
Alicante province is famed for its miles of golden, sandy beaches. It has 244 kilometres of coastline and the sun shines for 320 days of the year so you will get plenty of opportunity to soak up the rays.
San Juan is the central beach in the city and has beautiful golden sand and sparkling seas. The beach is also great for watersports including surfing, scuba diving and kayaking. A charming boulevard runs the length of the beach and offers plenty of places to eat.
If it’s history or culture you’re looking for, the castle of Santa Barbara is a towering structure at the heart of the city. Here you can find artefacts dating back to the Bronze age as well as from the Roman Empire. It's worth the climb for the spectacular views but there is a lift if you are feeling laid back. The Cathedral San Nicolás is in the heart of Alicante Old Town dates from the 1600s. Visit it for the striking Baroque interior and the altarpiece by Nicolás Borrás.
There is plenty to do late into the night in Alicante. You could have a drink at one of the many beach bars, visit a theatre or a casino or dine out in the chic marina. There are lots of cultural events, such as fiesta's and carnivals to enjoy too. so look out for these.
What to eat
The old town is the ideal place to head out to eat if you are looking for traditional Spanish tapas in beautiful medieval surroundings. The marina is another popular place for dining out; it has a range of traditional and modern restaurants so consider tasting the local paella here.
There are also plenty of beachside restaurants that are family friendly and offer a range of seafood, grilled meats and pizza. There are more upmarket restaurants here too if you fancy splashing out on some exquisite local seafood dishes.
The region is famous for its leather goods, so Alicante makes a great place to shop for shoes, belts and handbags. Alicante is also famous for its great food, including chocolate, nougat, olive oil and wine. On Sundays, you can head to the weekly antique market to pick up a more unique holiday souvenir of your stay.

Short break in Alicante
Single, N.Ireland lady, Northern Ireland
This was a last minute, 3 day trip to Alicante. I chose this hotel due to its ideal location.Airport is only ten min taxi drive away; the beach is a 5 min walk as are main shops and restaurants. There is a supermarket right opposite the hotel. Breakfasts are perfectly adequate. I wouldn't call my single room 4 star as I had nowhere to hang my damp towels and so on...avoid rooms on floor 1 for this reason. However my room was comfortable and was well cleaned every day. There is no pool which is a little annoying but I was happy to dander down to the beautiful beach everyday. I had a late flight home but there was no problem getting my bags kept all day and getting a shower at tea-time before I left. I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. For those who like historical things, there is plenty to see, and practically on your door step. The magnificent castle is a 30 min walk up the hill but you can get special lifts up. All in all, I had a very pleasant stay, despite my reluctancy to agree to the awarded 4stars the hotel has.
The best thing about my stay was...Cleanliness of hotel and proximity to beach, restaurants and shopsp

Enjoyable stay at the hotel which is in a great location in the old town, beside the town hall, tourist office, close to the beach, port and many restaurants. The room was bright & clean and the bed very comfortable. The air conditioning worked well. Staff were friendly. Lovely view of the castle from the roof top terrace which has a few sun loungers and table & chairs on it. The only downside was the noise ; this is a busy square and there were two different festivals / street parades taking place during my stay but it was more the noise from fellow guests banging doors at all hours of the morning that was annoying. I would however still return to this hotel. (remembering to pack ear plugs!)
The best thing about my stay was...Location.

Nice hotel, great location
Traveljimmy, Orba, Spain
My wife and I stayed here for one night (a Thursday). We got a great last minute deal on Alpharooms of £36.43 (approx 43 euros) for a double room. Room was clean and modern with fridge. Staff very friendly, location fantastic - easy walking to beach and the barrio where there's a fantastic selection of bars and restaurants. Only negative I'd give to this hotel is that they do not seem to publicise your parking options anywhere, so you are unsure how much cost this will add to your stay! I phoned in advance and was told they sent you to a nearby car park with rate of 9.50€ per day. When we checked in, the receptionist marked directions to car park on a map (Parking at Plaza del Puerto, Muelle de Levante, Manzana - on the pier in front of Hotel Melia) but after we got there we found that car park was much more expensive and would have cost us 24€ at standard rate. We complained to receptionist when we got back to the hotel and she said they gave us a special discounted rate of 16.50€. In fairness it is only 5mins walk and very big modern car park, but that was still more than we wanted to pay, so she suggested the undergound car park San Cristobel at Calle Zaragoza (further up the Rambla Mendez Nunez) which is about 2 mins driving and 10 mins walking. We parked there and paid only 11.50€ for 24 hours car parking.
The best thing about my stay was...Wonderful meal at Sal y Pepe Italian restaurant on C/ Munoz in the barrio.

lovely but noisy location!
We stayed at this hotel over the Easter weekend. The rooms were lovely and clean, although we chose a twin room which was bigger than the double room. The location is absolutely perfect as you are so close to the beach and the town centre. The only downside was that because the hotel is smack bang in the middle of the plaza, it was very noisy at night and in the morning with all the hustle and bustle. Bearing in mind it was the Easter weekend so there were lots of parades and markets happening in the plaza so this probably contributed to being forced to wake up early in the morning. I don't rate the breakfast very highly - the Bacon didn't look like Bacon and the eggs were definitely powdered. However, there wad cereal, yoghurts and lively pastries do you won't go hungry! Staff were so friendly and I would recommend this hotel for a short stay in Alicante.
The best thing about my stay was...being so close to the beach

large, clean, airy room overlooking the town hall square
The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a room with a view to the square, with balcony access allowing in the warm breeze and the quiet murmer of city life below. The room was clean and spacious with easily controllable air conditioning. The location was excellent- secluded in the old town, so you could blend in with the locals, whilst being next door to the beach and the esplanade. The bed was a little creaky, but the room made up for that completely.
The best thing about my stay was...The view over plaza del ajuntamiento and up to the castle.
