Budapest Holidays & Hotels

Hotels in Budapest

From popular cheaper chains to boutique hotels, your stay in Hungary’s capital of Budapest can be as luxurious or budget-friendly as you like. This artistic city has a range of accommodation options for solo travellers, friends, families and couples, making it a holiday destination to suit all.

Split in half by the winding River Danube, Budapest is a vibrant city that’s made up of stunning architecture, geothermal springs and unmissable view spots. Whether you visit for the Christmas markets or at the height of summer, Budapest a destination that will delight visitors of all ages and all tastes.

Where to stay

District V

If you’re looking to be in the middle of all the sights during your holiday, District V is the place to be. As the tourist centre of Budapest, District V is home to several large hotels as well as dozens of delicious restaurants, bars and shops. You’ll have the iconic Hungarian Parliament building on your doorstep, as well as Liberty Square and endless museums. District V also has a buzzing nightlife, and handily leaves you just a short walk away from all the sights across the river and further out of the city.

District VII

District VII is well known for being the city’s lively and artistic hub. As Budapest’s Jewish Quarter, it’s also rich with history - you can’t miss the Dohány Street Synagogue, built in the mid-19th century and now officially Europe’s largest synagogue. Hotels in this district will leave you perfectly situated for exploring the thermal spas, museums and shopping centres - and you’ll also be slap bang in the middle of all the city’s ruin bars.

District I

Located on the left hand side of the River Danube, a holiday in District I offers a quieter stay in Budapest. This is where you’ll find the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Castle District, which contains both the Buda Castle and the Fisherman’s Bastion. It’s also home to a number of lesser-known thermal baths including Rudas Baths and Gellert Thermal Bath just a short walk away from most hotels in the area.

What to see

Budapest is a city that’s rich with history and cultural hotspots, so you’ll never be short of things to see and do during your holiday. After a wander along the River to see the striking Hungarian Parliament building and the moving Shoes on the River Danube Bank memorial, you’ll be in the heart of the city. Take a tour of the Hungarian State Opera, and soak up the free views of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, one of the most famous sights in Budapest.

Whatever the weather, no trip to Budapest is complete a trip to one of the many thermal baths. Széchenyi Thermal Bath to the north of the city centre is the most well-known. It’s home to 21 indoor and outdoor pools ranging in temperatures from 18°C to 40°C, with room to take in a few laps or just to simply enjoy a soak. Fisherman's Bastion, over the other side of the River, is another unmissable spot. The panoramic viewing terrace has fairy tale turrets and archways, and offers the best views across Budapest.

Budapest has a lot to offer in the way of lively nightlife; millions flock to the city every year for a holiday to enjoy the inexpensive, eclectic after-dark entertainment. The ruin bars, so called for their locations in dilapidated buildings, are dotted around the city and are a must visit. Szimpla Kert is one of the most famous ruin bars, featuring a warren of little rooms filled with mismatched furniture, live music and eclectic art. There’s also plenty of other nightlife to keep you busy, too, from casinos to bars, nightclubs and even parties in the thermal spas!

What to eat

From hearty meals to sweet treats, Budapest has its fair share of delicious food for you to sink your teeth into. As the national dish of Hungary, goulash is probably one of the most popular meals around. It’s usually made with beef and vegetables, and is seasoned with a touch of paprika for a warming kick. For dessert, try a dobos torte - a delicious sponge cake layered with chocolate buttercream and topped with caramel. Or, treat yourself to a Kürtoskalács, a hollow cake that resembles a chimney, and which can be personalised with everything from cinnamon to Nutella – you are on holiday after all!

The vibrant Váci street is one of the most well-known shopping areas in Budapest, and features everything from souvenir shops to high street stores and local crafts. The stylish WestEnd City Center is another of Budapest’s shopping havens. It’s got floors of international and local shops, as well as plenty of food stalls to keep your energy levels up.

9/10 Fantastic

Down(town) but certainly not out (of the way)

This hotel is in downtown Pest but it is only a short stroll to the Danube. Amazingly well restored hotel in real Budapest. Surrounded by quaint little coffee shops and great restaurants. There is an Italian next door. Fabulous food. Breakfast is expensive and not worth it, especially if you are veggie. The restauesb too crowded so we ate there once and didn’t return. The staff friendly and helpful and the mezzanine cocktail bar a real treat. It is not far (10 minutes) walk to the Erkel theatre also, so good for opera or concerts. We walked everywhere as the Parliament and shops are not far away. The reason one are nice but you have to pay to use the pool and sauna.

The best thing about my stay was...

Walking to the Danube at night

Great Hotel in Budapest

Continental was a very beautiful hotel just off a side street very close to the city centre, really good location although the street it is situated on is a bit grubby. It is in walking distance of everything, bring a good pair of walking shoes!!!! The rooms are a bit small but very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly. I would stay here again as I liked how clean the hotel is. Budapest is beautiful and definitely worth a visit, can't wait till I go back again.

Not worth the money

Stayes for 4 nights. The breakfast was by far the only pleasant experience! For 110 per night we expected the pool area to be free of charge, but yet they cared €8 per person per day. Sun loungers were scares, which meant that there could've been a good chance of not getting a lounger at all. The service wasn't great either. I don't expect anyou e to roll out the red carpet, I am simply talking about a little friendlyness goes a long way. The rooms were alright nothing to rave on about. One of the day we got soiled towels instead of fresh ones! On the other hand the location is good.

The best thing about my stay was...

Breakfast. Location.

Clean and well located

We used the hotel as a base and it was ideally situated for this. Very clean, although the room was a little small after they had added another be for my son (I expected it to be bigger as it was advertised as sleeping three). Loved the rooftop pool but resented having to pay extra for it as this is the reason I chose the hotel.

The best thing about my stay was...

Watching the sun go down on the rooftop.

Great service, bad location.

Great service, bad location. The hotel is lovely and promt on email replys and willing to help with anything. Although they advertise a roof top pool it is not included in the price of your room. The area is located in a dirty part of the city and is also not central.

Budapest is an amazing place with stunning views, our hotel was more like 5 star! We felt most looked after and the food was fantastic, rooms were clean with all amenities and the hotel even sent us a bottle of bubbly free of charge for my husbands birthday, will definatly stay again on our return visit!

A Fine Budapest Hotel

A pleasant stay close to centre of Budapest, set back in a side street away from the main street. Good size clean room with air con, a comfy bed and a good shower /bath. A lovely buffet breakfast was enough to fill a hearty appetite. It was relaxing to spend time in and around the roof top pool, although i felt this should have been included in the price of the room.

The best thing about my stay was...

I was really please to find a kettle which meant I could make tea!!

Continental Hotel Zara Budapest review June 2015

A very good mid-priced hotel located 10-15 mins walk from the Danube/City Centre. Located on a quiet side street, and although not in the nicest part of the city, it is perfect for night life with the best ruin pubs and numerous eating venues close by. Most city attractions are within walking distance. The hotel has free wifi and the only downside was the high cost of using the rooftop pools/gym/steam room at 9 euros per day. As other reviewers have already commented, this really ought to be free for residents.

The best thing about my stay was...

Excellent buffet breakfasts

Great Stay

Great hotel, extensive buffet breakfast, walking distance from most attractions. Only downfall was having to pay 8 euros to use the small pool and sauna - it really should have been included.

Great hotel and staff - great location

I surprised my husband with a short trip away for our 6th anniversary on the 11th Feb. The hotel is grand and has an air of opulence that makes you feel special. The decor is fabulous and comfortable at the Sam time. We were given an upgrade and a bottle of bubbles was waiting for us! The room was roomy enough and had all the basics plus a fully stocked mini-bar. The only thing I would criticise is that there were no bedside tables to put items onto so my phone and cup of tea stayed on the floor! Duvets were individual ones but we were on a double bed so it would have been nice to share a large duvet. All in all a very lovely stay. Staff were great and breakfast had a lot of choice and came in abundance even at 10am!

The best thing about my stay was...

The hotel itself and the location - an amazing restaurant just doors away as well!

continental hotel zara review.

Good service from reception staff who are very polite and welcoming as well as very helpful, however spa receptionist had an attitude, and is basically just rude. Standard room a bit on the small side and do get a bit hot even with the air con. Hotel well maintained and clean. Would certainly go back to this hotel.

The best thing about my stay was...

friendlyness of staff,.

Amazing hotel!!!

Just got back from a fab trip to Budapest for my boyfriends birthday and this hotel were fab in making it extra special. Our room wasn't ready when we checked in, which was no problem as we just went to get lunch instead, but for our troubles we were upgraded to a standard deluxe room. The bed was huge (you could probably fit around 4 adults in it!), bathroom was a good size and the hotel itself is in an excellent location. Each day we would have a knock on the door with chocolates and a card with the weather details for the following day on.

The best thing about my stay was...

I told the hotel on my reservation that it was my boyfriends birthday and they arrived to our room that afternoon with some sparkling wine. Such a lovely extra touch

amazing holiday

beautiful room, excellent cleaning, fantastic breakfast, comfortable places nasty thing about the hotel is that a 4 stars hotel shoudn't need to pay fitness and service pool. in the night the metro station (which is not so near at the hotel) isn't so safe especially for family with children.

the room.

Great hotel, clean with excellent service

Stayed for 4 nights in October. Would recommend booking with alpha rooms and the hotel to friends. Beautiful interior too! Roof top swimming / fitness suite too which we didn't use but looked lovely.
