seems that the french are taking over

we have been going to this hotel for 10 years, but recently it seems to be full of the french ,who have no consideration for other guests,we have never had a problem before, but things have changed, and not for the better,we were kept awake till after 3.30 am also we could not get in the ladies toilet in reception because these same people had suitcases all over the floor getting changed although the hotel provides changing rooms as i have already said they they have no consideration for other guests.we are hoping this is a one off occurence, but listening to other reviews i don't belive this is the case.

A very pleasant week

The Hotel is clean but dated. The staff are freindly and make you welcome. The bar staff are very good. We did not have to wait at the bar long to get served. The food id tasty but as with all inclusive deals they lack variety. The entertainment was quite good but the seating arrangements were odd. Most of the crowd had to see the show from the side of the stage. The walk along the beach to Carelejo was worth it. If you are a football fan they do not have Sky TV.

The best thing about my stay was...

Relaxing hassle free holiday for a week. 2 weeks would have been boring.

Really good

Hotel was very well organised; friendly helpful staff and rooms although basic very clean. Meals again were very good but not much option for vegetarians - -An added bonus is the hotel is right by the beach which was beautiful --

The best thing about my stay was...

All inclusive was a very good option --going into town a short taxi drive - -wonderful shoirt break -- would definately do it all again

I am a single Father of 3 young children. I stayed at the hotel in November of 2008. I felt compelled to write a review here after reading what some other holiday makers had wrote about the hotel. I can't believe that any one could find the faults that they have wrote about. My children and I stayed at the hotel for a week in a villa type accommodation which is with in the same complex as the main hotel. The accommodation suited me as it was ground floor level and my children at the time were only aged 3,6 and 9. The accommodation was superb, the food in all of the restuarants was superb, the service was superb, we never had to wait for food or drinks even though the hotel was full! The entertainment was entertaining! The pools were great. The location is superb. The people who have left bad reviews probably spend their entire life moaning about every little thing. I have not been able to take my children on holiday abroad in 2 and a half years due to finances. We are able to have a holiday abroad this year and I am booking this hotel. Don't listen to moaners the hotel is great :)

The best thing about my stay was...

The food and ambience

extremely disappointing

i can only compare to the 4 star hotels i've stayed at in greece, turkey and cyprus and the riu does not come close to their standards. the food is plentiful but very poor standard.the rooms very basic and only pool side balconies get the sun. i feel this is a 3 star hotel with 4 star prices. the wonderful location and weather is this hotels only plus. i would not ever go there again.

The best thing about my stay was...

Reasonable all inclusive hotel

A reasonable all inclusive beach hotel - begining to show its age and rather crowded but acceptable nonetheless. Staff are friendly and try hard to please. Entertainment leaves a little to be desired. Food is good but would suggest booking either of the speciality restaurants (at no additional cost) for a less canteen like ambiance. Hotel opens onto a large reasonable beach. Enjoyable provided that you don't set your expectations too high.

End of Aug 09 I stayed with my partner and daughter in the main hotel complex on the fourth floor with the room overlooking the beach from the gable, beautifull to wake up every morning looking out from the balcony watching the sea roll in and the same at night. The staff were excellent, the food was great. Took part in the many ativities on offer and met some very nice french, belgium, italian and german people. My partner and daughter also undertook some activities. Couldn't promote my stay enough, excellent

Group of 14 personnel

I visited with my husband, 4 yr old son and a group of friends also with young children. The hotel is fantastic. The food is nice but very repettative and 2 wees of rotating the same foods was boring. The entertainment is OK but the evening finishes fairly early (2230 hrs) and the disco/nightclub is small and not for children. The kids club is brilliant with a massive variety of events during the day and a disco early evening. The daytime entertainment around the pool at the main hotel is good but there is no family entertainment in the second pool where the families and children end up residing. Also, there is no beach/pool towel service for the family rooms in the annex. The only rooms that do have towels are singles/doubles in the main hotel building. All inclusive is lovely. Drinks all day and night long. All in all we had a fab holiday and would go back again, but there are just a few small things that could be better. P.S - Watch out for the cockroaches in the evening. Especially if your room is on ground level!

Just go!!

We have just returned 13th May 09 from the Riu Olivia. The location was out of this world and so quiet and it was so nice overlooking just sand dunes and the beach and if you stay in the main hotel every room has a sea view! If you want a relaxing and easy holiday this is for you. The service in the hotel was excellent, the staff couldnt do enough for you. The food was really nice every day, always plenty of choice and enough to go round, they never ran out of anything. The entertainment is ok if you like drag acts, i think the Germans are into them more than we Brits are, but thats where the cocktail bar helps, it was full of slightly tipsy and embarrassed English people! I used to laugh at the efforts people went to to reserve beds, i used to watch them hurry round the pool moving beds around and marking their spot while i walked down for breakfast. We just left them to it, theres no point stressing about the best place round the pool....the best place to go is the beach anyway! If you can honestly say you didnt have a good time i'll give you your money back!!.......... only kidding!

just great

here for a week and this is our 2nd trip to fuerte,it was our first time to have an all inclusive hotel but as its a 5euro taxi ride to the town its the only place to eat, food was buffet and was very varied and neither of us could fault it,staff must have a pain in their face from smiling all the time but most of them seemed genuine, rooms were fine .if you want a sunbed in high season, stay up all night with a flashlight, germans must get training on sunbed nabbing before they go on holiday!!but the beach is on your doorstep and the breeze is special on the waters edge, sunbeds aplenty.take the alpharoom taxi service option, sound expensive but would have saved us 18euro. just book this hotel, its a no brainer!!

Butlins abroad!

I have just come back from a two week holiday at the hotel but had to move after one week. The only nice part about the hotel was the food and the service which I would give 9 out of 10, so why the poor rating. Well the hotel is shabby with paint falling of the walls which were dirty in many places. The main reception area is not very pleasing to the eye and needs a total revamp. The main toilets has graffetti on the wall which dates from early 2007 and every part of the wall has been covered. My room had cracks in and covered in damp patches and the shower flooded every time I used it. When I shut the door another part of the masonry surrounding the door came away. You had to be an early bird not only to fight your way through the sunbeds to find a free one at 7 in the morning as most had already gone but you had to be quick to get a beach towel as they were like gold dust....... If you want noise and cattle class around a pool you have come to the right place! If you want to eat early then you will starve as you can't always get a table. So if you want all this then feel free to book. Plus side in case you think I'm moaning fantastic location. If you want a fantastic place to stay book the sister hotel Riu Palace Tres Islas and you will find what a hotel should be like. Good luck :-)

perfect holiday

My husband and I are from matagorda, lanzarote, I am helena and irish my husband is anthony and english decided to once again use to help us find the perfect location for our well deserved break ,we found this great hotel to be one of the best, great location on the beach, great food and great staff, we found it a bit disappointing to be in a seperate complex to the hotel, however we did not let this ruin our holiday. Our room was clean and big, I think you should be told when booking that you could be in another complex. However we will be back.

Review of 'Hotel Riu Oliva Beach Resort'

We have just returned from Feurteventura and were extremely pleased with our choice of accomodation.  Initially I was a little concerned when we first arrived and discovered that we were not in the hotel part of this resort.  However the quad room that we booked into was ideal and we loved it.  The room was cleaned daily and towels changed as needed.  Food was great quality and going inclusive meant that there was no stress about where to eat each evening.  Having said that, there was plenty of choice and we lived on salads and freshly cooked meats and pasta.  The choice at breakfast and dinner was brilliant.  I was dubious that this would work so well with 2 young children. In fact it worked very well.  The hotel attracts a lot of Europeans but the staff have excellent English and the kids loved the shows at night time.  The heated pool and the jacuzzi are fantastic and of course the location on the beach is superb.  I would definitely return here for a stress free holiday.

Review of 'Hotel Riu Oliva Beach Resort'

The hotel was excellent, this was our first experience of an all inclusive & we were very pleased with it. the service is very good and the food & drink never seem to stop. It is all really good quality with plenty of variety. We had been to the resort before so we knew the surrounding area well, the hotel is a little remote from the town, hence the all inclusive probably, but if you want a poolside or beach holiday then you can't beat this. The beach is straight outside of the pool area ( which is really good) and is completely clothing optional (that means you can go naked more or less anywhere) and you can walk for miles. There are lots of sand dunes and plenty of space. We are planning next years trip already, can we say more?

Review of 'Hotel Riu Oliva Beach Resort'

For three widely travelled friends, Riu Oliva was a revelation. I have stayed in other Riu hotels around the world, but this was exceptional. Fantastic position on the beach, excellent roomy accommodation, expansive public areas, good and varied food, and the most helpful and efficient staff we have ever experienced, all make this a "must revisit" hotel. We never failed to find a sun lounger, or a restaurant table, even at the busiest times. And we too have written to the Management with praise ... which we have never done before despite many enjoyable hotel breaks!!
