Sligo

The capital of County Sligo; Sligo is the largest town in the North West, with over 6,000 years of history. Steeped in culture there are several theatres and art galleries for visitors to explore, while the atmospheric town offers a variety of modern and traditional bars, restaurants and delicatessens to suit every taste. The name Sligo literally translates as 'the place of shells', as the town's prehistoric residents had a vast appetite for shellfish, where crustacean remains can be found buried all over the area. Sligo is an ideal town for outdoor activities offering facilities for numerous activities including horse riding, golfing, walking, cycling, fishing and water sports, which are all very popular in the area.

Family Wedding

Stayed in Clarion Hotel recently because of a wedding. I am a regular visitor to Sligo and this was my first time in this hotel. The building is very impressive as you drive into the carpark. It is very clean and well kept outside. The welcome we received was excellent. When we were checking into our room the receptionist was very efficent and friendly. We explained we would be checking out early in the morning (6.30am) and we were told breakfast not served until 8.00am. She said she would organise food for us to our room. Breakfast was delivered to us on time! The room was nice but if was staying for a bit longer would have preferred a room with a view. It was very clean spacious and comfortable. Ideal for just one night. This hotel is a bit out of town but well signposted. I would recommend this hotel. We had a great time at the wedding. Food, staff and service excellent.

6/10 Good

not a place for a romantic break

The hotel is very good and staff very friendly. food good but breakfast is like Paddy's mart. When we stayed end of Aug the hotel was full of families and loads of kids so it is very family friendly but def not the hotel to go to if you want a romantic quiet break.

Large spacious rooms but unsafe pool area

Asked for quiet room - given room over bar/entrance area with smokers chatting, people and cars coming and going. Room adapted for disabled use so 6' 4" husband had to kneel on floor to use sink. Checked with staff about correct room but were told that was it. But worst was the pool area - no diving allowed but everyone does, so area around pool becomes water logged and slidy. Staff do not patrol the pool area but watch from a window - areas around pool have high tiled walls so they cannot see behind them to jacuzzi area etc - they certainly did not see a young boy slip on the wet floor there and cut his arm and have a nose bleed - his mum had two other kids and had to take them all out to clean him up. Several people in the pool area voiced the same concerns - the pool area was overcrowded, the staff need to be IN the pool area, walking around and on hand to help - we would have said this to them but they were not there - did they learn nothing from the recent Dublin tragedy.

The best thing about my stay was...

spacious room, BIG bed
8/10 Great

Comfortable 4 days.

Loved the pool area. Kids cinema and story time service from the girls in the kids club was a nice surprise.  Room we had was huge.  A few small issues that were more strange than dissappointing e.g. getting told we had to pay for the kids to have breakfast on the second morning but not at any other time, getting wine at the bar but sent to a vending machine in the lobby for coke, getting charged 8 euro for crazy golf that has seen better days.  The food at breakfast was excellent but they were noticeably understaffed when it got busy.  We tried to book a table in the restaurant but were told were it was closed and we would have to eat in the bar area.  Ate there 3 nights, mostly ok but staff mixed up orders a few times.  Overall we were pleased with our stay.  Disappointed that when we tried to book two rooms for 3 nights the following week the hotel told us one reservation had to be "room only" as alpharooms did not have enough allocation for bed and breakfast.  So again, we now have to pay for breakfast for some guests during the stay. Seems to be some strange rules on this.

The best thing about my stay was...

The pool area.
