Top 5 Winter Sun Destinations

Is the turn in the weather already starting to put you down? We know how you feel. But fear not, the winter can be the perfect time to get away and enjoy some well-earned sunshine.

Winter breaks are becoming extremely popular, and when they’re outside the school holidays can offer great value too. But where to go? Naturally we won’t be recommending a weekend on Blackpool seafront – not unless you’re planning on packing a hat and scarf – but we can recommend these fantastic locations…

The great thing about Egypt is there’s a holiday in there for everyone. Of course there are the pyramids for the history buff, the Sahara for the adventurer, and Sharm El Sheikh for the tourist who wants to while away the hours on the beach, book in hand.

Temperatures in Sharm El Sheikh are in the 20s (°C) up until December with average highs still landing at 27°C even in November, making it the perfect time to have a quick dip in the Red Sea.

Whether it be Cairo, Luxor, or Sharm El Sheikh, you’ll never be short of a brilliant town in the land of the pharaohs.

It’s called the Sunshine State for a reason and you’ll likely get 20°C temperatures throughout most of the year. Of course, in Florida you’ll be kept incredibly active too. Orlando is the home of the theme park with the likes of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld all around the city.

From beaches, to the Everglades National Park, there’s so much to see and do, particularly around the major cities like Miami and Orlando.

The amusement parks are of course a must, whilst the likes of Little Havana in Miami transport you over to Cuba, with its vibrant neighborhood hosting markets, exhibiting galleries, and serving some of the finest coffee in the state.

Canary Islands
The volcanic islands of the Canaries draw millions of tourists every year. Perfect for the summer, perfect for the winter, Lanzarote holidays and trips to Tenerife, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria have the sun shining on them all year round.

Their dramatic landscapes are awe-inspiring and there are dozens of activities in each and every town to keep the entire family entertained.

Perhaps best of all though, is that these islands offer the best Spanish culture and cuisine, without it getting cold like you would find on the mainland. Tapas is a must on the island, whilst drinking sangria in November is quite the unusual treat.

Places such as Teguise market are a great place to meander around on a sunny afternoon, and the perfect escapism from the cold, damp, high streets of Britain.

The Caribbean
The Caribbean is one of the top hotspots for a winter break, and is one of the most luxurious regions on the planet. Mention The Caribbean and it fills minds with opulence, sunshine, and truly perfect beaches.

The region comprises of over 700 islands, islets, reefs, and cays, with the likes of Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Barbados being three of the most popular attractions. Centering on the golden sands, the islands are the epitome of relaxation and have some gorgeous beachside bars to continue the laid-back lifestyle.

Each island has its own unique culture and island hopping will certainly give you the best experience, discovering the home of Bob Marley, cricket in some of the most passionate grounds on the planet, and watersports in some of the warmest, most tranquil waters.

Hawaii may come on the pricey side. It may also be out to the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but the US state comprised of a number of islands is most certainly worth visiting.

The volcanic islands are absolutely stunning, with dramatic landscapes, and a chilled out lifestyle which is unrivalled anywhere else in the world. Visiting a few islands is a must, with the likes of Pearl Harbour around Honolulu taking you back to one of Hawaii’s darkest days, whilst Kailua Beach is the perfect relaxation spot.

Elsewhere, the mountainous terrain is great for hiking, and renowned for the spectacular views a walk to the top produces. It’s a magical group of islands, whether it be spring, summer, winter, or fall.
