Oktoberfest and Munich 2013

Oktoberfest is fast approaching us. The world famous, 16 day festival that celebrates everything Bavarian, kicks off on the 21st September this year.

Don your Drindl and get those legs out and into your Lederhosen and enjoy some of the traditional foods and beers that are on offer. Bavaria is famed for its sausages so it would be rude not to have one whilst you are there and wash it down with some the “liquid gold”. Other food includes dumplings, chicken and pork. Wildmoser’s is famous for their roasted chicken and duck, which has been a tradition for four generations. Despite all the beer sold at Oktoberfest having to be between 5.8% and 6.3% alcohol, this is a family friendly event. Since 2005 there has been a “quiet Oktoberfest”, meaning the music is quieter and often more traditional. Back for 2013 is the Oide Wiesn, which replicates the traditional Oktoberfest. There is a fairground with traditional tents and rides. This year you can enter this part of the festival without paying twice if you leave and want to go back in, as you will be issued with a wristband.

If you are heading over to Oktoberfest this year make sure you take some time enjoying Munich. Munich is Germany’s cultural centre, known for its art, futuristic football stadium and architecture. Surrounded by snow-capped Alps, Munich feels sophisticated and elegant as a city. There are numerous churches and the distinctive twin-towered Frauenkirche. Munich is a foodie heaven and it boosts a popular market selling fresh food and deli items.
