Long haul winter getaways – Orlando

What do you get if you mix Mickey Mouse with lots of excitement, sprinkle in some magic and then top it off with sunshine? Orlando, Florida!

World-renowned as the city that’s built on imagination, Orlando is famous for making many a dream come true. Its most well known attractions are the Disney and Universal theme parks which include Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando, Sea World and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Magical and memorable, these parks give you the chance to walk around Hogwarts castle, experience the adventure of Jurassic Park and watch as Dr Suess’ magical children’s tales come to life. There are thrills for children and adults alike: movie characters galore, rides of all types and an incredible range of things to see, do and experience. Be sure to make early reservations if you’re wanting to dine with Mickey, Minnie or any of their friends as character dining experiences are extremely popular.

Orlando Lake Lucerne

If you fancy a day off from all of the Disney and Universal wonder and excitement then there are plenty of other fun things to do; you can mingle with alligators at Gatorland, watch the spectacular Cirque du Soleil or play golf at one of 170 golf courses. There are no immediate beaches in Orlando however there are plenty of places to cool down such as Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water parks and Wet ‘n’ Wild. Expect lots of slides, waves and water!

Daytona Beach

If you don’t mind an adventure and can’t imagine a holiday without a day at the beach then there are some really lovely sandy beaches about an hour’s drive outside of Orlando. Cocoa Beach lies to the east and has something for everyone: warm water, golden sand and lots of activities  for when you’re done with sunbathing. New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach are two other beautiful options that are also equipped for a full day’s visit with shops, places to eat and lots of things to see and do.

Orlando’s main tourist strip is the exciting and convenient International Drive, featuring a great variety of hotels which are all in close proximity to Orlando’s best attractions, shops and restaurants. You can stay onsite at the Walt Disney World Resort, which places you right in the heart of the magic and offers a mix of hotels for every budget. Lake Buena Vista is another popular resort, containing the Downtown Disney area of Disney World and plenty of shops and dining choices.
